....?

I'm already bored with this Iraq thing and it's a done deal. Next!

Where will the next act of good ol' American democratic rightsizing take place?

Korea? (reruns...so stale)

Venezuela? (It's been decades!)

Mali? (gold!)

A real war? Only Korea may fit that criteria in your list.

My guess? The US and Russia tangle with China.

Maaan, that's gonna' make for some great entertainment! I miss the cold war.

hmmmm, I believe that the next conflivt (outside US/Iraq) may be India and Pakistan

As far as US and Russia v. China, I don't see that stopping there, N. Korea may get antsy. The whole Spratly Straits would ignite in a huge naval battle because of all the nations claiming maritime rights there. I see Australia helping out if China was involved in war.

The next conflict outside the Middle East will not be pretty.

There'll be no US invasion of Iraq. That's my prediction, and I'm sticking to it. Bush is beating the drums for the sake of the election, and to appease the hawks, but he's not dumb enough to actually put troops-on-the-ground.

That'd work... a good way to de-popuolate an overcrouded Planet - Nuke Lop Nor and let the winds take care of the rest...

hmmmm I'm not bashing your post, but it is open for some debate. Bush can send planes and missiles and start airing reruns of "My Three Sons" as a way of defeating the WMD program Saddam has. There is definitely (IMO) going to be military action in Iraq above and beyond the No Fly Zones. Materials and supplies can be moved without a major tell tale sign. Troops will be the last to go.

Of course, if Russia ever gets ahold of Canadian Poutine, all bets are off.

And Sandia, you could bomb the shit out of all of Iraq, then blockade Bahgdad without putting anyone on the ground for 6 months. My money's on that scenario.

Korea is looking promising, yes.

Any wildcards?

Carpet bombing can do wonders too.

Saudi Arabia?

But I could buy into Ishmael's USA-Russo/China war.

China is in desperate need of resources to fuel their growing economy. The are a net importer of fossil fuel, coal being the only fuel that they are self-sufficient in. They also need the trace metals and even iron ore.

Their governmental-economic model prevents them from extensive international trade due to the fact that they are spending an inordinate amount of their national treasury on military build up. This will require a huge trade surplus balance to sustain. So, they will have to find a source of mineral wealth that they can call their own.

And all that mineral wealth and more is right across the Amur river in Eastern Siberia. The Russians will fight back, and we'll help them. It is not in our national interest that that mineral wealth be stolen from Russia.

If we do go to Iraq they won't last any longer than they did in the Gulf War. I anticipate the next hot spot will either be North Korea or Pakistan and India.

Hell, it would be in our best interest to join in regardless. It would be one cause that Western Europe couldn't baulk at...so I think it would end up as more than just a USA-Russian effort.
