Even if Dr. Christine Blasey-Ford can be persuaded to testify that Mike Pence attacked her, I don't think that even Mitt Romney will believe her this time around!

Trying to impeach President Trump is becoming a disaster for the Democratic Party, inflaming the president's base and inspiring even his most lukewarm supporters with a sense of outrage. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi knows that in states like Michigan, upon which her party's chances in 2020 will depend, the question of impeachment is NOT polling well. Pelosi also knows that Joe Biden will not be able to spend the next 14 or so months refusing to answer questions about the activities of his son, Hunter, in the Ukraine, and that increased scrutiny of the former vice president's record in office will not benefit his candidacy.

Party leaders KNOW that impeachment is a non-starter — not only because it's unpopular but also because it will go nowhere in the Senate. Too many of the younger, more radical Democrats (whose own political fortunes do not depend upon the party's national appeal) have been allowed to control the conversation. The hydra is beginning to eat its own heads. Nancy Pelosi should have known better than to feed it in the first place.

President Trump made an end run around the Democrats by releasing a transcript of his phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky this morning, showing that while Trump asked about Biden, he made no mention of US aid. It will NOT be possible for Pelosi to retreat from the opening of impeachment proceedings without seriously embarrassing herself & her party!

Okay, Jack... in 2010, President Obama almost single-handedly DESTROYED his own Democratic Party's numbers in congress with his deeply-flawed health care legislation, resulting in 63-incumbent-House and 6-incumbent-Democrat-Senators all losing their jobs! Did THIS cause the remaining Dems up for re-election to ask thmselves: "what's more important, Barack's job, or a continued ride on the gravy train?" I would argue that no, it did not.

Back in 1974, during the heighth of the Watergate scandal, Richard Nixon's V.P. (Spiro Agnew) was forced to resign. Nixon then named Gerald Ford to be Agnew's successor, which was then approved by the Democratic-Party-dominated U.S. Senate. And then, when Nixon ALSO resigned, Ford picked former New York governor Nelson Rockefeller to be his V.P., and again the Democrat-run U.S. Senate said okay. The Democrat Speaker of the House back then NEVER received a call to be president!

If Trump were to be impeached & removed from office (NOT going to happen), Mike Pence would become president and immediately name a new V.P., who would immediately be approved by the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate! And then, if Pence was impeached & removed from office (NEVER going to happen), his G.O.P. replacement would name another Republican as the new V.P. - in NO UNIVERSE would Nancy Pelosi ever become president!

Well, they undoubtedly do according to the sources you read. But the truth is, there is absolutely no evidence of any wrongdoing by Hunter Biden, and it's not even really in dispute that Trump asked Zelensky to investigate him. The only thing less than certain here is that Trump withheld the military aid to Ukraine when Zelensky wouldn't do his bidding. And again, Rudy Giuliani inadvertently admitted culpability in the whole thing the other day. (And you're still wrong about the Mueller Report, but I know better than to even bother on that one.)

I'd be curious as to when you lived in Alabama. My understanding is it's some time in the past now, which would explain why you thought Barkley was still a Republican. If you read my link - and we both know you didn't - you'd know he was quite critical of both parties.

1. I haven't seen that, and I don't trust your sources.
2. Even if he did say that, how would he know? We DO know that Trump delayed the aid by a few months, and we DO know he finally delivered it only after this all came to light. The only question is whether or not this is why it was delayed. Zelensky would have no way of knowing the reason why, even if Trump told him that wasn't why (and we don't even know that he did).
