The Music Thread

I know how much so many of us on Lit couldn't get by in life without our music. Music to me is one of the most important things in my life. Even when I'm not listening to it there is always a song going round in my head. I cannot imagine what life is like for people who say they don't like music.

So I thought it would be nice if we could have a thread on here where we can meet and talk music (and anything else that occurs to us ). I mean anything: your favourite band, song, album, single and why you like them/he/she. It could be naming your favourite song; your happiest song; your saddest song; songs that have played a part in your life and why. Or just that you've heard a new song/band and want to tell others about it/them.

Anything goes and remenber ... music (and sex) make the world go round!

So, to start (and what prompted this thread) ... I have just been listening to Sìnead O'Connor's version of Prince's "Nothing Compares 2U" and remembering the video for it where she cries at the end ... so moving ...

I think everybody who has ever experienced the end of a relationship can relate to this. There is the time immediately after when you are counting the minutes and days since you last saw them and soon after that there's the anger and hurt and the realisation that everything you couldn't do before, you can. But no-one understands why your moods are swinging from one extreme emotion to another. I love this song - sad songs are every bit as important to us as happy ones ...

My taste in music is widely diverse....anything that gets me in the mood for anything..could be dancing, a routine in my head for my pole dance fitness practices, or for chilling out with my favourite man. Imagine being the subject of a piece of poetry like that? Who knows....maybe one day

I listen to such a wide variety of music, it'd be hard for me to pin down favourite artist or album, but favourite song...easy. Lost In The Stars, written by Kurt Weill in the '40s.

Songs that make me sad are songs that I connect to my Dad who died 12 years ago and a former student who drowned 2 years ago.

But a song that makes me happy because my 15 year old son who is at one of those stages right now, but was singing along with this with me as we were driving a week or so ago, even though it's a really dumb song is...

as the others have said... a lot depends upon the mood i am in. i like diversity! that and i adore the shuffle button on my ipod! i never know what i'm going to get ... and i like it! lol!

I know the feeling! I have about 15000 songs in my iTunes library and I have it permanently on shuffle, so I never know what I am going to get next. Of course, sometimes, I just feel in the mood for a certain artist and then I will manually select a song or an album and play it all the way through ...
