If you haven't seen this, go and see it. If you have, what did you think? I personally loved it. And I really dislike Richard Gere as an actor.

I saw it and it as fucking incredible.
Half the theter screamed when he rolled over and saw his wife.

Yep, same thing happened when i saw it. These girls in the front row actually screamed. And I live near WV, and a lot of local people heard the story before they made the movie, so there were people there who actually had a personal understanding of what happened, and others who...well, just knew they were too close to what happened not to be frightened by it.
The film was awesome!!!

Have you seen the section of the Ohio river in question in person

No. It's...well, I'm not sure how far. It was in Point Pleasant though, in the sixties or seventies when it happened. I live in the tri-state area just West of Pittsburgh, near Ohio, WV. WV is in my backyard. I used to have relatives down that way, and my mother had gone across it the year before the collapse, but personally, I've never seen it. Realistically, why would I? There's nothing else interesting about Point Pleasant.

I'm not going to go see it. But I do want to know what's going on...

Mothman, outta the blue, mothman, mothman. Wasn't he the Ticks sidekick? I have gone from never hearing about him to hearing nothing but Mothman.

I have no clue what any of this is about. Someone fill me in. What is the deal here? Truth, fiction? What?

"based" on the true story - not sure how loosely based b/c even though i'm not that far from wv i don't recall hearing the story before

i found the scenes in the movie very frightening at times - almost to the point of being annoying - i was on the edge of my seat when richard geere was looking in that bathroom mirror toward the end of the movie - but i didnt find the movie intriguing at all - it just didn't do it for me - felt almost like a docu-drama with some "thrills" thrown in~

Basically, the Mothman is an unexplained phenomena, one that tells of future tragedies and has odd affects on those who witness it. Mothman from its physical appearance, of course, though it is mostly a shadow form in the movie. It's based ona true story, meaning that the bridge fell and people claim to have seen and heard predictions from the future in the town. Some were interviewed when the movie was being filmed and reitterated what occured, telling of when and where they saw the creature and whatnot. I'm thinking mostly that the distinct details are the ones added, like how often and how clearly he speaks to Gere in the movie. Possibly the bleeding eyes and ears and whatnot. But ultimately, the rest is "true" to account.
