More than than, mandatory vasetomys or tube-tying.

Childless people can work more hours, and need less income. Women who do not give birth don't need maternity leaves.

Sure in the long run it harms society, but in the short term, it helps next Quarters profits and makes the current CEO look good.

See Walmart thread fo related discussion.

This reminds me of something I read the other day about a woman who was working back in the early 60's- they told her that they couldn't pay her the same as a man because he had a family to support. This was a common justification for paying women less than men. Now people complain that women want special consideration becauas of there families (like family leave, lactation rooms, onsite daycare, ect) What a lot of hipococrocy. Any excuse not to treet women fairly. First it was because they didn't have as many 'needs' as a man- now it's because they have more. What a crock. And of course they've got the people behind them, feeling all put out because they don't get 'special' treatement that they percieve others do.

grrrrrrrrrr.

I'll probably start a thread on that sometime. Oh hell, I'll do it now, so that this isn't really a hijack:)

You've got to remember sweet, that human beings are more often rationalising creatures than rational ones.

Most of them have beliefs they have been taught and they never question those beliefs.

From those beliefs they decide on actions, then use those beliefs to support those decisions.

It is a priori reasoning but it's much simpler than actually thinking.

Most important is that it's no skin off their ass. Most people will not let anything happen that might cost them time, money or effort. As long as we're all right, who cares what happens to those people.

I see your point, to a degree. The question is, however: What's the answer to the problem?

Anyway you look at it, there's no real solution, because those things are required for female workers and not male, and back in those days, let's face it, the man was (and often still is in many ways) expected to be the bread-winner. The reality of it is, there isn't any answer, nonetheless a fair one.

I disagree.

I think the solution is to stop looking for (and allowing) excuses to shortchange workers on the basis of gender or any other- and stop feeding the fear in others that they are getting less if women get a little more.

Happy V-Day.

Seen the recent research with chimps? Even they will "down tools" if they see another chimps getting a better reward for the same work.

And you lot think you've evolved ;) You've just lost your opposable toes, is all.

My toenails are painted a naughty red.

And they still wrap quite nicely around my man's waist or drape easily over his shoulders, thank you very much.

Perhaps not opposable, but certainly very functional! ;)

In an ideal world, sexual or racial bigotry wouldn't exist...but we live in this world so...*sigh*

Sometimes, for each step forward humans have come, I see us regressing two.:(
