I was chatting with a fellow Lit author the other day and the topic "gobs of cum" came up. Imagine that.

We had a discussion about the relative importance of the "money shot" in erotica versus visual porn.

In erotica we can describe an "internal" climax sufficiently that we don't have to "show the cum flying". And yet, I have received feedback that i don't have enough cum flying in some of my stories.

Has visual porn forever changed the definition of erotic to include flying cum?

Sorry. Guess I'm being a bit facetious. I agree with you Bridget. In the written word we get to do what cannot be seen on the screen. We get to describe a creamy-filled orifice in wonderful detail. As well as how both partners felt getting there!

I think some folks might be more into what they've seen visually than to try to see it for themselves.

It's all down to the readership, some will have sufficient brain cells to visualise the event you are describing as you intended.
Some (majority of Lit readers according to feedback type and comments) have only a single brain cell tuned to a single act as seen (usually) after violently w***ing their member and watching a cheap porno flick, whether the flying sailors are on film or all over the far wall will depend on the stamina and firing power of the redneck involved.

I occasionally give a character a face painting or a belly bath with man fat, but I have never, and will never describe it flying round the room.

In short, it rarely happens in real life, so why make it up to ruin a good story, I too have seen film clips of guys shooting yards, but only a few and usually featuring the same guy.
I think young teens have the ability to shoot their porridge a fair distance, but as we get older and the sperm count goes up, it tends to dribble or pulse rather than shoot out like a scud missile.

Sure! If you're writing about a character that loves giving/getting facials, then I think it is very appropriate. I would think it could get monotonous in a length story though. A good writer could get past that.

My main point was that I don't see a need for it to be in every story written, unlike what is seen most porn movies probably ... not that I have ever seen a porn movie.

The first time I saw a porno, circa 1982, I laughed my ass off at the way every single sex act ended with pulling out and shooting all over the place. It seemed completely artificial, a way of saying to the viewer, "Look, he wasn't faking! This is a genuine hardcore porn flick!" ;-) In a way, money shots are a visual reinforcement of what's happening in front of the screen--i.e., some guy jerking off and visibly dribbling his wad. I think it's only there to reassure the customers.

I think Madame Manga Has the answer to why the fountains of sperm are the norm for film and tape.

The "Money Shot" didn't really begin to show up in the loops until the mid 1970s. Too many of the mentally challenged viewers in the theaters began complaining "He's faking IT" when the closeups showed a semi-soft tool buckling as the male lead tried to push back in.

Prior to the mid 70s, the cream pie or dribble from her lips was the final scene.

In all honesty, the money shot is something that I can do without even in mainstream porn. I just do not feel the need to see some other guy's hose squirtin' a load when I can be looking at the woman's boobs dangling in front of the camera. If I'm in a porno mood I would prefer something that isn't going to result in copious amounts of spooge squirting out announcing, "okay viewers, this scene is over." I'll figure out that the scene is over when the next image comes on the tube and the actors are wearing clothes. The money shot is an insult to my intelligence.

I don't think erotica has changed to the point where the money shot has taken over, I think that there has been a graying of the line between what some people consider erotica and what they consider porn. Maybe it is the product of a dumbed down culture, or maybe it is part and parcel of a society that is all to oftne in a hurry.

It seems to me that erotica is something that takes time to enjoy while porn just gets you there quickly. Not that I have any bias against porn.
