Some people just don't get it.

Back in the old days, racial miscegenation was not only unacceptable and incomprehensible, it was even banned. Much to the fortune of a certain black boxer named Jack Johnson who was denied boarding the Titanic, or so the story goes. There could only be a pure white America, or total savagery, as far as the anti-miscegenation crowd was concerned.

Likewise, pro-capitalists today insist that there is only Capitalism or, as Amicus most infamously put it, slavery. Anything short of purity - in this case, purity being unfettered Capitalism - is blasphemy. They'd like to see socialism - the monkeyblood of economics - banned and its believers burned at the stake.

Yet, like interracial marriages, capitalism and socialism are routinely mixed in this society, and in all other Western democracies. From consumer protection regulations to workplace safety laws, evidence of economic miscegenation is everywhere; environmental pollution laws ensure that we literally live and breathe a mix of capitalism and socialism.

And the most important part is, hard line pro-Capitalists love this kind of miscegenation. They won't even think of moving to countries where it doesn't exist. Is it because a pure capitalist country doesn't exist, or because such countries are unfit for civilized humans to reside? That question is certainly debatable until the cows come home; but what's not debatable is we're not seeing any exodus of hard line pro-Capitalists to a desert island to build their pure Capitalist paradise. They live in an economically mixed marriage nation that is allies with several other "mixed couples" - namely, the European western democracies.

To Pro-capitalist hard liners, socialism is the new black. But in reality, black is the new President - and even he is the product of miscegenation. So is America's economic system, for that matter, and no matter how much the hard liners cry about socialism, they're not going to flee it any time soon. They'll just get louder about it as their cause continues to lose followers, just like those who opposed interracial marriages.
