Plot:
It really just was a "once upon a time" in the city where the only thing people had to worry about was the night time when the unholy creatures of the night, particularly vampires, would emerge and take hold of their victims.
However, one day, the world had been consumed by darkness, blocking the sun and any source of light. While the night life has become a bit more lively, those who once had an aversion to the sunlight had found this as an advantage to go out at any hour for their next victim. Some humans had tried to stop the vampires by any means necessary but had often found themselves either killed or captured. It has remained this way for a few years since.
Housing:
The vampires in question reside in a Victorian Manor just outside of the city as a group.
To get a somewhat idea, here's an idea of their housing:
