The Marquis de Sade, during the French Revolution, once proposed state brothels, in which every woman would be conscripted to serve at some time in her life.

And it just occurred to me that this is the one political board in the world where that idea can be submitted for serious discussion.

Posting this because I am beginning to find so tedious all this discussion about women controlling their own bodies . . . in a rather different context, of course.

It's probably a better post in the story idea forum than here. I could see it working as a political sci/fi story like The Handmaid's Tale. The concept would be less objectionable if you removed the conscription aspect, because if it's forced, as pointed out above, it's just state-sanctioned rape. On the other hand, if it were a voluntary form of state-sponsored service, the Sex Corps, for example, then it wouldn't draw the same objection.

Of course it is. Have you read de Sade?! In his world, rape is foreplay. Most of his stories are snuff porn, with murders. They express a world-view that is transgressive not only of accepted sexual mores, but of all generally accepted ethics and morals. A de Sade protagonist is cruel -- and that is not limited to the bedroom. I recall one character who was a government official who boasted of having deliberately caused a famine that killed thousands -- at no profit to himself; he did it just to be evil.

That is now the new normal in America. That is what our society has just chosen. Trump both embodies and encourages/validates all that is evil in the American national character -- willful ignorance, greed, dishonesty, arrogance, racism, sexism, misogyny, xenophobia, American exceptionalism, religious bigotry, producerism, etc., etc. This is de Sade's time.
