The Mansion

There are times when I hate my body. This is one of them. My eyes simply pop open, my consciousness simply snaps to the fore and nothing, aside from sheer exhaustion, is going to make me sleep again.

No sense is just lying in bed. Get up. Get coffee and go see what threads, if any, you need to respond to.

I do need to keep my eyes on the clock. I have an appointment today I have to keep. Not looking forward to it, what woman in her right mind would? It's only at these times I wish I wasn't so well endowed. Thankfully, it's just once a year so I shouldn't whine too loudly. Over in about 15 minutes, tops.
 
The kitchen smelled like fresh-baked banana bread, and sure enough there was an already cut into loaf settled on the counter. She isn't in the kitchen, as usual, but instead is seated on the bench out in the garden. It's beautiful and peaceful out there, and she's taking advantage of it. A plate with a few slices of the banana bread, and a steaming cup of coffee sit next to her. There is a brace - blue and silver - on her right index finger, and a cute little pink plaid netbook settled in her lap. She's wearing a bright yellow sundress that buttons all the way down the front and has tiny little straps. Her hair is up in a messy ponytail, and as she hits the enter button she takes a bite of bread.

It'd been slow-going getting a post typed out - but she'd managed it. It felt good to write again, to stretch her fingers and have them hit the keys with the familiar cadence of rhythm. Well, mostly, aside from the broken finger. It felt good to let her mind wander with the story, let her fingers type out the words as they painted themselves in her mind's eye.

Now that her post is done, the rest of the day is her's. Pulling up another page on her little netbook, she starts to type in supplies for a couple of things that she'd like to bake. She can transfer the list to her Kindle before she goes shopping later - a modern day grocery list for a modern girl.

She loved quiet, easy, lazy days.
 
The mansion is bustling today. The maids have been given the day off. The lady of the house is handling it all, well, except for the grilling. But first, coffee and a leisurely stroll through the normal things she goes through in the morning before happy chaos reigns.
