Close friends would say that my mind wanders into, if not strange, then odd places, periodically. That is to say, there is never telling where it will wander or when. Today my thoughts drift toward friendships I have developed over the years.

I have had my share of fair weather friends. I'm sure everyone has experienced them at some point or another. They are those that hold you close while things are good and fun, but when the tides shift, when the skies go dark and storms build, when the world around them starts to tremble because they are around you, they are first to be missing when you turn to look over your shoulder.

Then there are those who, so long as you don't rock their boat, don't cross their lines drawn, whatever those perceived lines are, you are welcomed with open arms. It doesn't matter that you didn't even know what those lines were, there is no defense, no acceptable way to get past the offense. There is no room, in their minds, for your own perceptions, your own views. You aren't accepted because you think and feel as you do.. or perhaps you could be, may be, so long as you don't rock their boat, upset their applecart because of course, if you try to flavor their world with your thoughts and feelings, well, that just isn't done or acceptable, is it? There is no world view check, logical thought spoken to consider. Why would they even be considered friends, hm? Because, simply, sometimes, you don't even know how they think until you supposedly cross them.

Then there are those, that whenever you look over your shoulder, there they stand. Silent sometimes, but there nonetheless. There are those who are not so silent, who would speak but defer. *gentle smile* Then there are those who speak anyway against injustice or wrongdoing or simply pick you up, dust you off, set you on your feet again with words of encouragement. They can be depended upon to be there. They can be counted to stand up and tell you, regardless of how you see the world, that perhaps, you need to step outside of yourself and see a situation or a person, in a different light. They're not afraid to argue with you, not afraid to get harsh with you when it's needed because they know, you know, they always have your back and you have theirs. And you will and do listen, consider, their words because they have value. They, you, weren't willing to toss you, them, away at the first signs of trouble. They saw, you saw, something... value, in them, in you. They help teach, show you, how to bend and not be so rigid in the world.

In any case, I am thankful for them all. Whether they have come and gone or came and stayed, they have all shown me various sides of human nature, taught me something of human nature. They all have brought joy, tears, laughter, love, sorrow and even disappointment and I wouldn't have traded the experience for anything in the world. Each one, no matter how long or how short they have shone, matter to me.

This place, Lit.. isn't my foundation, isn't my real world. IT IS a portal to developing friendships with people I wouldn't otherwise have met. It is what each of us are willing to put into it. People here mean no less to me than the people who influence my every day life. There are real people, cloaked perhaps, on the other sides of monitors and keyboards. Those I have gotten to know, mean something to me. I care about them. They aren't just a name. I can't just dismiss them at the drop of a pin. It takes a while to get to know someone, truly know them or rather, know them as much as they will let you.

I honor freedom of choice. I don't have to like it but I do honor it. Sometimes, choices bring us great sorrow and regret and it can also bring us great joy.

*Bursting in on her solitude, giving her an impulsive hug from behind, not even trying to cop a feel. (I'm being a good girl today!)*

As she fades back in from the the RW, she senses an elf... a lady elf.. and gathers up the hug from the ether.

*Even as she fades in, he steps from a shadow where he most definitely wasn't before. He moves behind Cait, holding hands over her eyes, leaning in to whisper in her ear*

So...tell me, what is it that you believe leads the way to my heart...?

*she whispers from the ether, close to his ear* Better luck next time, Fr33k.

*He simply smiles and takes a seat at her desk, leaning back in the chair. He's got nothing but time on his hands...*

Ever so carefully from the ether... she locks herself in her bedroom, knowing she managed to dodge Fr33k this time. Her luck can't hold out forever, she knew. Still.

Peeling off her clothes, she crawled into bed, pulling the thin sheet and coverlet up over her shoulders and snuggled against the pillows to sleep.

Tomorrow was another day.

*Locks were never much trouble for him, especially with his given skills. One look and the tumblers fell into place, silently. Another glance and they returned to their locked state. He smiled and found his way out of her mansion, knowing that she'd answer him. Eventually.*

(*laughing* Damn you, Fr33k)

She wasn't getting anything done this way...staring at a screen with a pencil stuck between her teeth and her mind just sort of floating out there...somewhere.

Focus, Cait. Reaching blindly for her coffee, she found herself with the sudden urge to have a carrot. *smirks* Richard's post first.

Sneaks into the room, delivers some carrots, placing them near the foot of the table, sneaks back out.

She swung her chair around, rising to go get more coffee and spied the carrots. She glanced at the empty doorway, laughed, snagging up one of them to munch on as she made her way to the kitchen.

She returned, resettled in her chair and focused on the next post.

*He slipped in through the window. Literally through it. He moved silently around the periphery of her vision, knowing that she would sense his presence despite his stealth. He leaned against a bookshelf, smiling widely*

I figured while you were focusing here, it'd be a good time to corral you again into answering what I want to know...

Her fingers paused over her keyboard as she swore quietly. Damnit. He had gotten the drop on her but only because she had been focusing on her responses. Withdrawing her hands, she sat back, turning her chair until she could look at him.

"Good Morning to you too, Fr33k. You know," she grinned, amused, " you're like a sticky shadow and that's not a bad thing.' She reached for her coffee mug, taking a sip as she studied him, "Curiosity killed the cat, hm?"

Heh, where are my manners...

*He tips a bow*

Good morning, Cait. Though it is afternoon here....

*A soft chuckle bubbles forth from him*

A shadow, yes...though my stickiness is a situational matter...

Curiosity may have killed the cat, but I'm no feline. And like the rest of that saying goes...satisfaction brought it back.

*His smile slips into more of a cocky grin, eyes bright for all their deep brown color*

I walk into the Mansion and bow to Cait.

Hello Lady cait. I haven't seen you in a while. And greeting to you as well fr33k. I like what you said as a relpy about curiosity. So true. I wonder why they say that? Curiosity killed the cat?

She studied him, letting her eyes move from his, roam over his form and back up, smiling.

"No certainly you aren't a feline, Fr33k," she fingered the rim of her mug as she thought about what he was after.

"Only you know what your heart yearns for. I can only hazard a guess. I would suppose it's what we all look for, to begin with," she tipped her head slightly as she regarded him, admiring the cocky grin and his bright eyes.

"Someone who can touch your soul, feel your heart. Someone who understands your need for touch and enjoys it, someone who senses the times when you need solitude and when you need company. All the kinky stuff? That's an added bonus, stoking the fire so to speak.

Someone who makes you smile when you wake up and when you go to bed or whenever you think of them. You have a poetic, erotic soul, Fr33k. You can be as primal as any male can be. You can be as gentle as needed....

The way to your heart?" she smiled, shrugging lightly, "Only you know that path. She'll know it too when she comes to you. I'm only guessing," she gave a little laugh, "I could go on, but I rather not make more of a fool of myself than I already have."

Her eyes fell away from his, glancing at the things on her desk. She studied people because they fascinated her. She had always thought him an enigma. So much entwined deep in his person, glimpses of which she saw when he wrote or interacted with others. He walked quietly. Caring about others. He sought to hold his personal balance and he spoke his mind. She imagined his woman would be the same.

Her head turned to glance at the doorway, "Good Afternoon, Avel. I haven't seen you in awhile. How are you?" She asked quietly, though her attention was still caught in Fr33k's presence.

Well enough. Not much going on today. But feeling ok, thanks for asking.

*He moved over to her, slow deliberate steps carrying him right beside her. His smile had become smaller, no longer cocky, almost somber.*

Quite a correct guess you've given, Cait. I'd thought you'd give me snark, and instead you gave me honesty. I'm glad that you can read all that in me through words alone.

*He tilted her head up, giving her a soft peck, first on the lips, then on the forehead*

Have a good day, Cait. Try not to roast in the heat. I'm off to work.

*He leaves as he entered, through the window, still smiling*

She managed a smile, through cloudy eyes as she watched him leave then cleared her throat as she glanced at Avel... "So, making rounds today, Avel? I gather the RW has been keeping you busy?"

I smile at her, but give her a small look of confusion.

Making my rounds? No I just came by because I want to meet others since I haven't had may people to talk to. And yes the RW is getting busier. Only on weekends am I online more often.

I take a seat at a couch.

I saw your new AV. I didn't notice it before, and I have to say, I like it. Very interesting and in good choice.

She glanced around with a smile, "Not many come to visit me, Avel. I'm afraid this is a poor place to meet others. She watched him take the only other chair in her study as she kept no couches in here. "I noticed you made the rounds of other places from time to time.

And thank you. I rather like it myself. I was inspired to change my av but the other will be back."
