He slowed the beautiful weave of blades until they rested down at his sides. He bowed his head closing his eyes for a moment savoring the feel almost communing with the blades with his inner being.

He heard footsteps and his head lifted again eyes moving brushing lightly over her face as he saw her. He had been away a while yet again. damn the rw.

His eyes briefly met hers.

"Thyri," he said softly almost reverently, "With an apology that she left me alone early on my birthday. I totally understood, yet the gift makes me smile... they are beautiful."

She drew closer, her eyes drawn to the blades in his hands.

"Glad, they're absolutely beautiful," the words were reverently, softly spoken, "Thyri has wonderful taste. They're Elven, aren't they?"

He nods, "They are indeed, the finest elvish work I have seen in many years. Magical in nature, born of the love, magic and artistic beauty that my people are known for. They are indeed quite a gift." He moves forward, closer to her. turning one blade, he hands it hilt first to her to let her feel the heft and balance. The grips were not as big as one a human might make, for the elvish hand was often slender. However it would also fit well in her petite hand.

She set aside her mug and took the hilt, letting her hand fit around it easily. Lifting the blade to the afternoon light, she admired the craftmanship and balance. then lowering it, she brandished it slightly, off to one side.

he smiled and dropped into a half crouch, the blade coming out and up in a guard position his knees bent weight on the balls of his feet. The blade had already told him much about its nature. He knew that their length could be increased. However that was unnecessary for now. He gestured with his free hand in a if you're going to come then come way.

She sensed something more about these blades, though her knowledge of elven blades was limited. An elven blacksmith had created her own blades from metals mostly unknown to her. She tossed him a mischievous look.

"In our own Great Room?"

She had already set her own body, turning it sideways, her weight on the balls of her feet. It took a little adjusting to as she was use to having two weapons in her hands.

He smiled slowly. He ran two fingers over the length of the blade as if he were pinching it. He touched some of the magic his race could wield and Glad then tested his magic by pressing his thumb against the edge and nodding when he saw that it did not cut into his flesh that the warding had worked. He twirled the blade and handed it to her, holding out his free hand for the one she held, so he could ward that one.

Her eyes lit up as she watched him. Twirling the one she held, she presented the hilt to him as she took the other blade he held out. She hefted this one in her hand, feeling the magic tingle along her skin as she did so.

"Good idea, Glad. I would hate to break anything in the house."

I would hate to hurt one another." he said warding this second blade, who's heft was almost identicle to the other. He would eventually be able to feel the difference, and find out which hand each blade was called to, but for now eiter would work. He held it in his left hand now and made a few experimental flowing cuts getting the feel for the weapon again.

She once more set herself, turning sideways, feet slightly apart as she extended her main hand, blade tip pointed at him before raising it straight up in a salute to her sparring partner before lowering it back to range.

"I don't know about you, but you're not getting hurt. I know how to strike and where. But still, this is a good idea. I rather like our couches." She grinned and winked.

I could cut your hair without cutting you so you wouldn't be hurt either but yes this is just better." he said with a smile returning her salute. He moved in his sword moved in a flowing almost circular patern, almost suited more for a curved weapon, yet it worked well with the straight blade as well.

She studied him a moment, then launching off the balls of her feet she feinted a lunge for his midsection and at last moment, turned it into a sweeping arcing one for his side.

He watched her move and he moved his blade slapping the blat a couple times against hers driving it up and out as he ducked low.

As he ducked, she moved around him, whirling away past his side coming around behind him but knowing how fast elves were, she was ready, bringing the blade up, turned so the length of the edge would face him when he came around to face her.

She leaned against a counter, cradling a steaming cup of coffee in her hands, sipping gratefully.

"Thank god for coffee."

He turned his turn low into a forward roll coming up his blade driving hers up and out, using the leverage of his coming back to his feet to drive the blade out wide. He stepped in and with his free hand poked her twice once in the stomach and the other in the nose He smirked. His grin suggesting if he had held a dagger she would have been hit twice.

The Master Bedroom

So tired her eyes were blood shoot, heart sick and soul weary, she stripped down, letting her clothes fall where they would, crawling into bed and pulling the covers over her head.

Tomorrow was new day.

The Study

She took her steaming mug and headed for her sanctuary. The doors of the study remained open unless she wished not to be disturbed. Very little on her face spoke of her thoughts or of the night before. Sitting behind her desk, she sipped from her mug, her thoughts a million of miles away, the fingertips of her free hand, brushing lightly over a spot just behind her ear.

She laughed, turning the hilt of the one she held back toward him, offering back his sword.

"Very good, Glad. I see I have underestimated your Elven prowess. We've never truly sparred before have we?"

He shook his head, Surprised she gave up that quickly. But he shrugged and placed the weapons back in their case. "No we have not, we will have to again." he said.

Glad thought on that scene as he stood on the patio behind the house, outside that great room. He stood watching the sun as it came up over the trees as it now approached the high point in the sky, and he became aware that he had been there now for hours. Trapped within his thoughts. So much had changed in the past week. He did not even know if this was still his home, all things considered. Only time would tell he supposed.

As she sat in her Study, she sensed Glad was about. She was thinking of that moment when he shared his birthday gift from Thyri with her. She took a deep breath as she swiveled her chair around to face her computer, feeling tears rise in her eyes, blurring her sight for a moment. She had promised. No tears. Another deep breath as she drew in strength. Her fingers poised over the keyboard. She hoped Glad would continue to feel as if he had a home here. Any of the rooms above hers were his for the taking.

He stood in the doorway now. His eyes were obviously red. He had grown weary of trying to hide it. The night before he had been numb, hadn't even really fought the change, hadn't had the heart. Now the hurt was washing through him. He had let it out a little and now it threatened to break. He opened his mouth and then closed it. "You gave me happiness I did not believe I could ever find again." he said softly. Voice was low, raw with emotion. For that I thank you." he says this last almost a whisper.

Her back stiffened as she heard him speak, her fingers froze over her keyboard but she refused to turn around. Her voice was gentle, soft and trying oh so hard to be strong, as it came over her shoulder, wafting back toward him.

"As you did, I. Please, continue to feel like this is your home if you wish. If you don't like one of the rooms above, I have a guest house just inside the woods you may have for your use. The key hangs in the kitchen, it's marked."

She couldn't, wouldn't, make this uncomfortable for their friends but it seemingly was turning out that way. She folded her hands in her lap, waiting for him to decide his next move.

He had felt the concern of friends as well. He longed to go to her, to touch her, to hold her close, to seduce her back into his arms. But he stood there frozen in the doorway. And then slowly he moved to her his hands resting on her shoulder. He had always been pulled to touch her, he didn't know if he could make that change. He couldn't say anything, didn't know if there was anything to even say. he just touched her softly. letting his fingers stroke up into her long red hair, stroking it softly. He waited for her to push him away.

I promised. I promised. I promised.

The words were softly spoken, like a litany. She didn't push him away but nor did she touch him in return. She knew what touch meant to him and she would not give false hope, that would be wrong of her. He would always dwell in her heart but it was time to let go. She would always know where he was. She would always sense him and perhaps in time, a warm friendship would surround them.

She simply waited, breathing deeply.

I promised. I promised. I promised.
