Royce is 25. He makes "fascinators", the fancy ladies' headwear popularized by Kate Middleton. He fell into it by accident - as a high school freshman, he tried out for drama club, and was assigned to the costume section. The senior in charge had him work on hats for the "roaring twenties" revue. The play bombed, but the hats got great reviews. Soon, he was recruited for the community theater, then went to design college, were he moonlighted doing professional theater. eventually, some of the actresses had him do hats for weddings or parties, and his fame grew.

When he outfits a wedding or a gala awards night, he is often doing last minute fittings in a dressing room full of half naked women, chattering about sex, some of them tipsy on champagne. They all seem to assume he is gay.

Except Royce is straight. It's enough to drive a hatter mad...
