I read those books 7 times and the 8 is in progress. I am looking for someone in love with them too. I am affraid to go to the theater and being pissed off. I know that I am a big boy now but I don't want to see my best loved story being crushed. But I want to go: the trailers are so thrilling.
So is it possible for someone to see the movie and give me a fair review ?

Thank you.

I have read and re-read them also and am waiting tensely to see them. Probably read them at least 8 times if not more.......I am finishing the third book now. As for the hobbit, the times I have read that are beyond count. I can say I have dogged eared the pages in at least 4 copies of it to death.

I would be happy to let you know how the movie is since I will be seeing it opening day.

Nic,

I did watch the behnd the scenes stuff on Scifi Network and have to admit that they look pretty good. Based on early reports and what I have seen in the various trailers they are staying quite faithful to the books....I am sure there will be certain ommissions. Tom Bombadil is a portion that I am almost certain will be cut since they are trying not to make the first of the 3 into a 4 hour movie.

That 's the problem, I want it all from the kings to the last road pebble. But I know that such a story cannot go to the movie without editing. But that what i am afraid of, too many editing. The magic is in the details : how there are fitting in the whole to make a masterpiece.
Remember Dune. Great books (5 times but there are more) and look (better don't) at the movie

Suppose I should really go read the book or see the movie so I know what the hell everyone is talking about.

Also considering I'm meant to be living in Middle Earth, lol

Great

I envy you for openning it for the first time.
Have fun and don't forget to switch our 8 year old mind on.

Just bite the bullet and go see the movie...

Its gonna be great..but hell, I'm biased
I live in Middle Earth (NZ) too

The director (Peter Jackson) has sworn to keep it to the book as much as humanly possible...and it was filmed with technical guidance from Christopher Tolkien (JRR's son)
so you cant get much better than that...

JUST DO IT>

I already have my tickets. Have been waiting for three years. woooohoooooooooooooooooo.....

I'm actually torn between reading the book and coming here.
Literotica gets 15 min's and the book gets about two hours.
Sorry Lit!

How can you let this book to do anything else like eating, sleeping or Lit (lol).

Well,

I noted the Tom Bombadil portion since that is one of the few portions I can think of that cold be sacrificed (I really hope not though) without destroying the story.

I agree that I think the best director was chosen. He seems to be geniunely a fan of the books and staying as true to them as possible.

T.H. Oughts,

Do read them. They are very detailed but great stories. I can honestly say they are an integral part of my being an artist today. They truly sparked my imagination when I first read them.

Wiggles,

Welcome to the wonderful world of Tolkien. Don't know what I was thinking ..... I know I should have told you about them ...wink....Enjoy!!!!!

My view is go see it, and many JRRT fans are feeling the same way as everyone has their own passion about the book and the characters. All I can say is that having had something to do with the making of the film I can assure you that the efforts spent for detail where staggering.

Interesting points that a few know about

- Everyone had to read and re-read the books whilst on location for all three films AND read and learn their scripts too
- The studios hired no less than 19 learned scholars and affciandos to interpret some scenes and unleash a no holds barred critique on the scrrenplay
- The two formost actors in the UK had a scene together where they both agreed not to out ham each other as the scene was that valuable!
- Even the key members of the local NZ army had to learn JRRT stuff too

And the scenery?? Well just talk to any KIwi, the place is Middle Earth!!!

Rumor has it they replaced Glorfindel with Arwen at the Fords of Bruinen because they wanted a strong female role. Obviously Eowyn (the chick who kills the leader of the Nazgul) isn't strong enough.

I think rather Eowyn, being blonde, wasn't the best choice for Liv Tyler.

I'm a huge fan of the books, too. From everything I've seen so far, including the documentary on SciFi and the trailers, I think this will be the best adaptation of a book to film ever. Everything looked fantastic. I can't wait until it's out.

Can't wait

I love the Lord of the Rings, have read the trilogy several times. I already have tickets for opening day as well. I have to agree with most people that what I've read adn heard so far sounds promising. It seems like everyone made a real effort to capture the true atmosphere and emotion of the books.

Funmale,

I am completely jealous of you for having had anything to do with making these films.

KittenEyes,

Liv Tyler is a brunette in the movie. Cate Blanchett, playing Galadriel is the blonde.

To you all.....I cannot wait for this movie to come out. Hope to see you all there opening day where ever you are.

I've read the troligoy twice -- but it's been years and years. I thought of reading them again to try and remind myself who all the players were, but I think I won't. I might be more fun to walk into the film with my mind open to the story, and not "locked" into the vision of the book.

I'm DEFINETELY gonna see it on opening day. Probably at midnight, like i did for Hary Potter.

I liked the Hobbit, read the first two of the trilogy, but lost interest somewhere in the middle of the third. Of course that was more than 25-years ago. Movie looks kick-ass, and NZ scenery spectacular.

Now let me get this all straight...... there's a friggin book??

if the film ends exactly the same as the book does (fellowship of the ring) i wonder if movie go'ers will be annoyed with that ending having to wait the whole year for next film :)

sexy-girl

As I understand, they filmed all three sequentially, for continuity--I don't know what the release schedule is. Question for Renegad, perhaps.
