Well ... its been a while since I've been posting, let alone making whole new threads. So if my writing seems rusty ... thats my excuse
.
Anyways ... for ages now I wanted to make a thread about one of my favourite topics (besides porn that is) and that are the movies (you guessed it already from the title, now didn't you?).
So ... you can comment on the movies I'll talk about or you chip in with your own little critique. Do as you please. Here we go ... the theatre gets dark, the curtain opens, I hope everyone has popcorn and his/her cell turned off.
The first movie tonight is:
Meet the Fockers
I saw this one last weekend with a bunch of friends (one of the rare times now I see a movie with dubbing) and it was a blast. I saw the first one, Meet the Parents, a couple of month back on TV and that one already was good. But now they've outdone the first one. Ben Stiller usually is a pretty funny actor, but this time Robert de Niro and Dustin Hoffman clearly outplayed him. Especially de Niro shows how great a comedian he can be.
I've never heard the actors use the word "Fuck" or a variation of it in a PG-13 movie. But it was funny as hell ... seeing Hoffman and Streisand act as a couple of hippies opposite to de Niros control freak aka Ex-CIA Agent was hilarious.
Speaking of hilarious brings us to our second showing of tonight (well this morning actually, but we won't split hairs):
Hitch
Will Smith and Kevin James were perfect in their respective roles. That whole movie was hilarious at one time and deeply romantic (I have to admit I am a sucker for romance) at others.
To see Kevin James' character fall in love and finally get the girl he loves was just adorable and leaves me wondering if I ever will get there ... but thats a whole other topic.
Will Smith was his usual self and this role was written for him. But I think the best scene, besides his speech at the speed dinner thingy he interrupted, was at the end, when he realized, that all that goofiness he tried to get out of Kevin James' character was exactly what the girl liked ...
.
Of course this Hollywood romance had a happy ending ... but they deserved it.
Now there are two more serious movies on the menu. And we'll start with:
Sideways
I watched it a couple of days ago and I think its an awesome movie. A movie which totally relies on the performances of the actors. And all four of them were great. I understand why there was such a hype about this movie at all the awards.
I loved it. Paul Giamatti did (at least to my knowledge) only half-assed comdies in the past, seeing him in a serious movie was kind of refreshing. And he did a great job at playing the depressed wannabe author.
Thomas Hayden-Church deserved the Oscar nomination for best supporting role. He was pretty good at portraying the soon-to-be-married man, who wants to get wild one more time before he is going to priso... äh before he is getting married.
I didn't need to see the bar maid and her huge husband fuck ... that wasn't a pretty picture. And even less pretty was to see him running out on the street naked ... eww.
Anyways it was a great movie. Pretty laid back and chilly, but sometimes this is just right.
Now to our last movie for tonights showing:
Closer
In one word ... strange. I don't think it is the masterpiece some critiques said it would be. It wasn't bad and especially Natalie Portmann and Clive Owen did some pretty good acting, but it was ... well, strange. I don't know for certain what to make of it.
It was intense, rude and ... well, strange. At times it felt like a bad porn movie without the actual fucking, at others it was pretty emotional.
Clive Owen did a pretty good job with his brute, simple man ... although he was a doctor. Seeing him being set up by Jude Law in the beginning was kind of funny.
Julia Roberts was kind of ... well nonexistent. I didn't really care for her character actually. She seemed to be the intruder ... somehow.
Natalie Portmann on the other hand was great. Gorgeous as always and I cared for her character. That she was sort of lying the whole time was kind of surprising in the end, but still ... great acting. I mean ... well, I wanted to be in Clive Owens place, in that club
, but which sane male wouldn't?
Anyhow ... thanks for your attention and now its your turn ... what movies did you enjoy lately or do you have anything to say about the above four? Feel free to post ...
Its now half past 5 in the morning over here and I think I should go to bed now ...
