We did have some fun, didn't we? I adored the repartee among such smart, quick-witted folk. Something that was funny (I had to take to the PG because it was too low brow for the GB) were the Flamingo Races. It amazes me that I actually spent time on this, but I had a group that would gather weekly in a thread at a designated time (I think Sunday nights) and describe their actions involved in blowing lifesized flamingo helium balloons across a finish line. The "racers" were different each week. Everyone else were "spectators" describing misadventures along the way. The double entendres were thick. The posts were fast and furious and it was pretty damned hilarious.
Fast forward a couple of decades. I started a foundation in my husband's name and our 2nd annual festival is approaching. This year, I decided to add flamingo races to the schedule to cover downtime in between musical acts. No one knows why I decided on Flamingo Races. They just think I'm weird and have embraced them as a fun idea. We're going to have a short obstacle course (still to be decided) contestants will navigate while wearing large blowup flamingo floaties. Only y'all will know it's a nod back to a happier time and place.
