We have an image of a Lit person in our mind, created by their posts and their AVs and in some cases, by exchanges with them either on the boards or in PM, in real life or on the phone.

Most of us, myself included, have made some kind of impression on others that has helped encourage that image. Sometimes it is not a positive image.

Problem Child made a comment on another thread that made me think, while I was making chili. To paraphrase him it was a comment the referred to most of us not changing. No matter what AV or ID one uses, one does not change, one's personality comes through.

Do you think that is true? Are we not capable of changing our style, personality or persona, call it what you will? Will the impression someone made yesterday or last month remain constant with you for the duration of their Lit experience?

Since no one is talking to me about chili, I thought I might try this thread instead. LOL

I talked to you about chili. *sobs*

Yes, I do believe people can change their ways. They can learn to recognize faults in themselves, and work on repairing them, or they can see who they've offended and how, and make amends while also trying to prevent doing that in the future. Sometimes, however, others don't give them that chance - they need to keep pestering them to show that nothing has changed. The one who holds the high ground is the one who holds true to the person they want to be and doesn't let others sway them from that path.

(My apologies about the chili, while I was posting this thread several of you did post to me there and I thank you. ~smile~)

My God Freya.... well said and I could not agree with you more on this point. I am sometimes as guilty as anyone of not giving others the chance to change and to change my opinions, once I have set them.

Thank you for your great post!

And i'm going to change sexy-girl to a straight ho

I can always count on you to provide some kinky levity to my threads. Thank you for being consistant and being a PAL.

I keep quoting your statements today.

Thank you for putting into words what I thought.

Well . . .

Actually, I have a vacuum cleaner handy. Whip it out, and you'll get sucked like you've never been sucked before.

The leopard may change his spots (outward appearance) but underneath, he's still a leopard.

I don't think the basic characteristics of any of us will change so significantly that we can be someone else. We may improve one or two things that we don't particularly like but our basic personalities have been years in the making, and they won't change without years of new experiences.

The trolls who change personalities and identities so easily do so because there is nothing in that identity. It's all smoke and mirrors.

Leopards dont change their spots, they just learn to hide them...

Miss mia can say she wants to change all she wants, but I keep seeing her in every nasty fight on this board.

I applaud her words, but actions speak louder than words.

That's not an attack, it's an honest observation.

*shrug*

Has anyone ever considered that the spots were just taped on in the first place and now they are falling off one by one? Sometimes, it takes a period of time before they all fall. Nothing in life is instantaneous.

Someone should just make one Train-Wreck thread so we can go in it if we want to gawk at it, and stay out of it if we want to read everything else.

That's a great idea. A little train-wreck symbol. hehe.

Who decides which threads are train wrecks?

And thank you for understanding my intent when I paraphrased your words here. You gave me pause to think and the thinking was primarily about me and no one else.

I do often wonder how I am viewed, if at all, by those who lurk and post here. And it made me wonder if I changed my "style" would I be viewed differently?

I also wanted to hear other's opinions on this topic. I am not fishing for comments about me, personally but about the topic in general.

I appreciate that you PC, seem to understand my intentions when I post.

Yes, I am one who considers it. ~smile~
