What do you think of that Modigliani hanging up there over the bar?
God I do love that guy's work. To bad he's dead. If he was still around he'd be here tonight saying "Right on...let's see if she'll float."...or something like that, in Italian of course.

I saw so many threads here bringing together Literoticans by geographical area and thought that I might try one bringing together femmes and hommes with an interest in the arts.
I'd like to see a lot of original work posted here but have no problems with posting works like the one above...just cause you like it.
I myself am a visual artist with thirty years in the field but this thread need not be confined to painting and drawing.
The Left Bank is an art café in the broadest sense.
A place for art 'buffs' to talk and play.

This is of course Literotica and the work presented may contain nudity!...or worse ;)

So how about it?
Any takers?

We can start off maybe with the nude hanging up there. What do you think...make ya hot?...leave ya cold?

If any one wants to take a look at some of my affidavits, you can check them here:
http://museumoffineart.homestead.com/figures.html

That's me under a different name.

Coffee anyone?

Ari, it's late, but I just had to "pop" in and let you know I think this is an excellent idea! I do hope that "art appreciators" are as welcome as the artists themselves? ;) I can't even draw stick people convincingly!

I personally like this particular piece. But then, you already knew that, right?

Good luck, Ari! And I hope others on the "left bank" find their way here!

I came here this morning for my cup of coffee........very interesting cafe........Art is in the eye of the beholder..........And this painting is a great one to hang up...........I always believe an artist paints what he feels...........love......sad........happy.........in many different colors and many shapes.

Good Luck Ari! Thank you for coming to the playground with it.

hey!
Two of my favorite gals to start the thread...thanks for coming by.
Modigliani's nudes exude pure sex to me. In depersonalizing the face...(blank eyes)...we are able to see the body as a lush vehicle of erotic release...I can get aroused just looking at them.

You bet Chele...it's for everyone who appreciates art.

As far as I know this painting has no title...
What do you suppose her name would be?
was she more than a model to him?

Happy BDay Angel!

Modigliani painting pose was used in the movie Titanic. When Jack was drawing the girl, the pose is the same. She is just missing the blue diamond.

*Settling in with a strong cup of coffee*

Good morning all! And, Angel, a very, very happy birthday to you! May all that you hope and dream for on this day be yours! You truly are one of the sweetest ladies here at Lit. *hugggs* hon!

Ari, I think most people like to think there was "something" between an artist and his model. After all, it has to be a fantasically erotic experience to be lying (or standing or sitting) nude or semi-nude as a man or woman is scrutinizing every inch of your body. I think most of us imagine every nerve quivering, heart pounding, etc.

The reality is probably that it can be a somewhat distancing relationship. Yet, we do hear of artists favoring certain models and building relationships with them. Picasso was one, I believe. So was the American artist - whose full name escapes me at the moment, but started with "Wyn....." (Ari, can you help me out?)

I think Modigliani had an appreciation for this model's body. I think it shows in the painting. And, Angel, I hadn't thought of the tie in to "Titanic", but I see it very strongly now that you say it!

Ari, there was another painting Modigliani did that I think was entitled "Red Headed Woman"? I'll have to see if I can find and post it here.

BTW: A shameless plug here!! For those interesting in seeing some more of the work Ariosto has done, please check out my web page, and go to "Featured Friends". There are a few nudes there that I think I worth checking out!

Edited to add the link to the painting that I referred to: Red Head in an Evening Dress

Busy day!...Took a while to get back here.
Neat observation Angel...shortly after Titanic was released I had several calls from ladies who wanted me to draw them just as Kate was drawn in the movie. I of course was eager to please and they even paid me!

Chele thanks for the link to your site and the work I have on it.
The artist whose name you cant think of was Andrew Wyeth and it was the series of paintings that he did of Helga that raised the question of his relationship with his model...

http://www.tigtail.org/TVM/B/NAmerican/b. post WW II/wyeth-andrew/M/wyeth_daydream.1980.jpg

He revealed these pictures during an ebb in his career and some criticism suggested that the 'noteriety' was engineered to put him back in the lime light.

Picasso had a long long run of models and lovers.
(The old Bull!)

I have had everything from very analytic associations to intimate ones. If the girl is a professional...on the clock, so to speak then it is a job...work to be done. But if the girl is an amateur, doing it for a lark say, then inhibitions go with the shedding of clothes and anything can happen...yes indeed.

Well Ari.......I know you are a very good artist.......after seeing Sienna drawings........I hope you do draw her and her daughter and wish I could see it........She is a very beautiful girl.

I always wonder about the benefits of being an artist........but to have you doing their drawings or paintings they are very lucky.

Getting myself some coffee and toast.

Morning Ari, Chele, Angel..

Just stopping by to wish you well. What a great idea !, I hope it takes off.

Art, I am, as always very opinionated on this topic, and one of the things I find difficult to comprehend is the way people commentate on the paintings and other art forms that artists use.

Things like, 'I can really see what ... ' , and 'the use of color .... ' when really I think most artists do things for themselves and the the postulations are not even considered.

Having said that I am particularly into surrealist art, my favorite is Magitte. And also into fantasy art by people like Clive Caldwell and Larry Elmore.

I don't have opinons on the works, I either like them or I don't I don't think an in depth discussion on a picture or the psychology of the artist is important it is the image that either appeals or doesn't.

I remember many many, months ago you threatened to start this thread Ari, I am so glad you did, and I hope you post many of your own peices.

Snork:rose:

Hi Snork I agreed with you........I remember many many, months ago you threatened to start this thread Ari, I am so glad you did, and I hope you post many of your own peices.

Yes Ari please post some of your too.:)

Good morning Angel...
Coffee Snork?
I have some Costa Rican blend that's pretty darned good!

As a painter myself I have little patience with learned analysis opf a work...so often such in depth probings have nothing to do with what the artist was trying to do.
Gut feelings are still what count...

Yes I do plan to post some artwork here...maybe later today but this is not a one man show at all and I want it open for anyone to post original works or works they want the community to see.

HEAR THAT!....Ya'll come on and get some kulture!

A Artist paints what he sees.............And for me it is time to bump this cafe up.

Ok guys, I don't have many of these as I don't do much drawing, but this is one of the images I did in my art foundation class which is not an original but a copy of a a picture by Olivia de Beradinis and took me nearly 1 week to complete.

Don't ask me to paint, some how the brush handles get all covered and then my paws and then I feel icky - I hate having dirty hands :(

Anyway the pic is colored pencil on film and mounted on white cartridge paper. Its about 36" x 12" in size.

(Ari if you want it, it's yours as a return gift for the drawing you did of me.)

Snork:rose:

Snork! Your a sweetheart.
Clobber me at chess and then offer me this wonderful drawing.
You bet I'd like to have it.
Olivia and Snork, a combination to keep a mans blood bubbling.
Very nice job on this one dear and the technique of pencil on film is a bit unusual was that your choice?
I think I'll hang it up there with the Modigliani..what do you think?

How do you all feel about Olivia's work?
Maybe I should post a few pieces for comment here.

Strolling over to the always stocked bar...mixing a martini...looking for conversation...artists are a funny lot.

Ive enjoyed your lil gallery tonight! Very relaxing and mind stimulating. I am definately not an artist but have fine appreciation for the work. Ari, your work is amazing! Sienna is a lucky girl to have a drawing done from you. (and those others of whom you have drawn) :)

Chele, had a nice visit at your website too! Thanks for sharing!

Hey everybody! Busy day, but had to stop in and see what new works might be on display. And who do I find? The lovely Snork! Dang, and you draw as well? I'm feeling so inadequate! (j/k!) It's good to see you!

That, Ari, that was the artist I was thinking of. I do like his work, though, even if there was controversy surrounding some of it.

Jewelz, it is a pleasure to meet you! Thank you for your comments on the web site! Speaking of which, I need to update it!

See you all later!

Good morning Ari, Chele, Snork and Jewelz, as I get myself a cup of coffee.

Snork what a work of beauty.

Have a great day and stay cool.

Arioso ... Inspirational idea! And Modigliani too - have you seen many of them "live"? I was fortunate enough to see an exhibition in London several years ago. Like many of his contemporaries he burnt out too soon - TB aggravated by alcoholism and drug-addiction at the age of 35. Shame.

Anyways ... mind if I join you here? I'll just leave my easel by the door for now and have a Ricard at the bar. As payment I wil leave you with a sketch:

Hey everybody, I hope you are all well.

It's nice to see you Starfire and Jewelz too, it's been a very long time :(

I'd forgotten my Lit roots. thank you for sharing your picture.

Angel thank you for your comments, the original is so much better, but I did enjoy doing it. I think it easier to copy a drawing than to do one from scratch and of course that is the true mark of an artist.

Ok now I know many people have expressed in varying degrees thier reservations at being any good at drawing. I can remember during my brief (semester) of art and graphic design my lecturer telling us all that it is impossible to recreate any image to perfection, I think thats why I like surrealist art over classical because it is more abstracted and possible for anyone to do.

Paint and Snork don't mix - too unforgiving - pencils can be erased and redrawn. And of course with the advent of computer art packages the realms of creativity are brought within the reaches of us less talented people.

Which brings me to the main reason for this post.
There are a lot of free and shareware packages available and I wanted to share a couple of those with you guys incase you haven't seen or heard of them.

The first is ofcourse the perenial favorite Paint Shop Pro which I use for all my webdesign work. and can be download free from

www.jasc.com

you can also use it to do those neat little animated pics you sometimes see in posts here

The other really fabulous product is an application called terragen

http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/

Which again is totally free - for noncommercial use.

I love this package because it let you generate landscapes - with photo realism. If you are a games designer, want to generate a world for a novel, you know if you need a graphical image to help you write this is ideal for scenary and setting.

I have put a terragen image on my web site which I have edited with paintshop to add the image of the moon as an example of what you can do with both of these packages and to prove it can be done without any traditional artistic ability :)

www.snorkmaiden.com

Chele, I emailed you :) sorry about the breakdown of communications.

Ari I love this thread, and of course 'Art' encapsulates many forms so I hope people with penchants for Literature, Opera, Visual Arts and Photography, Cinematography, Music and all the other forms will be induced to participate.

Have a great day. Go Create !

Snork:rose:

... and ...

... lovely to see you again too, Snork. Welcome back :) (Okay, I meant to say that in my original post but forgot! Ah well ...)

Catch you soon ... I am painting right now - need to log off.

Good morning!
I have some coffee that I brought back from Costa Rica where micro brands are as plentiful as mariposas..
Heres something from a manufacturer called Café Marvelloso.

Chele and Angel and Snork, old friends from the SRP...Thanks for helping me here.
Jewelz and Starfire, having lived my LIT life on the roleplay boards, it's very nice to begin meeting people who inhabit the other forums.

Thanks for your comments Jewelz and Starfire that's a great drawing you gave us. You are painting today did you say?
Please keep the images coming.

I will be doing another drawing of Sienna soon as a kind of work in progress on the AMPIX board...I'll let you know when there's something to see. It will be done in steps so you can see how it evolves.

I'm also working on drawings of several other Ladies of Lit and will post them here as they finish up.

This is a link to an experiment I tried with Maid of Marvels back in the late Fall. It died when LIT cahnged it's policy of actually posting the images of our uploaded pix...but if you follow the links you'll see some good stuff.
http://www.literotica.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=55023&highlight=erotique

Snorks tips on PSP are right on. It's a great program a full featured one. Used to be you could use it forever but am I not mistaken in thinking that it shuts down now after 30 days of free trial?...I'll take a look at the landscape generator, sounds great.

Actually after teaching art for thirty years I can say that EVERYONE can draw...something.
The academic, realist stuff demands some tough skills but the essence of art is in expression and we are all capable of that.
To me nothing is as delightful as childrens art and one of my projects in the coming year is to open an online childrens art museum.

Well thi is LitEROTICA right?
So let me close with two works of my own..
both what I call figurative landscapes...not my idea by the way but fun...
