The L Word

Poor Jenny

Among almost all of my friends who watch the L Word - LGBT and straight - she is by far the least favorite character. Now the one I really hate is the that absolutely awful woman, Helena, that Tina got involved with 2nd season...

Jenny... do u really like her? She's just plain weird. Part of me feels sorry for her. The other part things she's a bit of a pathetic character. I can't understand why someone like Marina who in my mind is such a strong person(despite her breakdown... yeah i know im slightly biased. But then again she only broke down BECAUSE of jenny!) would want to be with Jenny.

She needs to get her act together. No one who is so fucked up in real life gets to survive.

helena

Helena... Yeah she plays a really bitchy role. I completely dislike the way she is with her kids. And the games she plays is really upsetting.

But she is kinda hot  he-he-he... That little british accent makes me just wanna ....

Anyone watch 'South of Nowhere?' It's a cute show...it might replace my 'the l word' fix, hehe. :rose:

That show is incredible! My ex just got me to watch it the other day - don't normally go in for kids shows, but its amazing and the girl-girl relationships are portrayed with so much integrity - also have to admit to a small addiction to the newer Degrassi...

we don have tha one ere... (watching the union jack for some inspiration)

Xectxny19X - I finally caught South of Nowhere :) I really liked it. I will be sure to watch it from now on! It's a great show! :)

it is..isn't it? hehe...agghhhh...okay, if I can find a girl w/ an Ashley attitude, I'd be so all over her!

I still like Jenny on 'the L word' very much! *smiles*

I've been meaning to respond to this for a while

I adore Tina's facial expression in this picture. :catroar:

I adore Tina and her expressions anytime, anyplace.... :)

(I am a big, big fan which is saying a lot for someone who generally isn't star-struck - speaking of star-struck was just talking to a co-worker today who actually had an opportunity to take a swig off of Janis Joplin's bottle of whiskey - handed to her by Janis Joplin during one of her earlier performances in San Francisco - and turned her down - while my friend was only 16 at the time, still cannot believe it and am infinitely envious!)

The good news is that I received the second series box-set from a "friend" yesterday - kinda like an early Christmas pressie... I missed a few of the episodes because i was gathering frequent flyer miles.

So today i settled under cozy fluffy blanket and started watching. :)

The bad news (for the Jenny fans) is that i didn't like her before, but this time around she is just a complete irritation. I want to swat her away like a fly...

Failing, i just fwd through the scenes that contain her - strangely enough, the directors must have a master plan as many of her scenes are not with the "main characters" I can easily skip her scenes without missing my favs

he-he-he :catroar:

Hmmmnnnn.... Janis... Whiskey..... San Francisco....

Thank you for the start of a great fantasy :)

Hey! Are you single by any chance? hehehe...*smiles* :rose:

Sorry to burst your bubble, ladies, but i think she was fucking nuts before any of those things happened to her...

It is obvious that there was some kind of abuse/ trauma that happened to her as a child (the continues symbolism of her as a little girl which comes through in her writing: playgrounds scenes/ circus etc) And i assume also that she cannot remember the detail, as some of those images are blurred, and not very clear in terms of who did what to her - typical victim plot.

Does it ever really get cleared? i cant remember - perhaps in the next series.

What i don't like, is that she is the only person with sexual orientation issues in the series (if i remember correctly) And she's depicted as relatively unstable + confused + not leading a functional life. In real life i know many girls who at a young age had issues with their sexuality - its real. And by no means were they dysfunctional. There is just something about the Jenny character that makes me hear warning bells.

Perhaps, if she could have a little more of a backbone i wouldve liked her more.

Nirvanadragones, here's another one for you...

Was a freshman in undergraduate school when Jamie Lee Curtis was a senior (for some reason, we got lots of children of famous folks attending). In any case, I fit her for a costume once, for a period piece, I believe Molière (this is a true story, of course she was not herself famous then)... ;)

Re: the assessment of Jenny - I am not as bothered by her character as most of the people I know - I feel for her and her struggles and yes, they intimated the childhood abuse at the end of season 2, am assuming it will resolve itself in season 3...

Hmmmmn, i thank you kindly :)

Although i'm not the "star-struck" kind i have to admit that my heart does beat slightly faster at the thought of interaction with certain celebs - and Jamie Lee is certainly one of them (i dated a woman a few years back who looks just like her... sigh... )

We see many in London, but i'm still waiting to walk into AJ on a street corner!

I wonder if they are gonna change their intro song on the new season. I happen to like this one :)

That's such a good show. We're still on season one down here. I like it when it's more lighthearted though, and not so heavy like when the bible thumpers are on.

Watching it last night I started thinking what gems you can find in the middle of the night on tv. Since it's not a reality show or a big tv drama from America they don't know quite what to do with it here, so they just bury it at 11:30 on a Monday night, with no advertising or anything. There was another excellent show called Firefly that was the same way. Just came quietly, played through and finished quietly. You'd think the big knobs in the tv stations would be able to spot quality tv when they see it.
