I know I know, I'm coming way late to the table on this, but recently I got the Blockbuster movie pass thing and I've been going through and watching all the L Word DVDs. I don't have Showtime so I'm probably two seasons behind everyone, but I have to say I LOVE that show.

What passes for "gay" on network television is just disgusting, and flame away for me saying this but I think Will and Grace is a pile of stereotypical, dumbed down, middle America shit. So it's easy to see why I went into watching the L Word with such low expectations but it has absolutely blown me away.

Keeping in mind I've only watched the first season (I blew through it in three days) who does everyone identify with most? Have a crush on? Think of any of it? I'm definitely an Alice type and I have the biggest crush on Dana and Bette...although Bette's a cheater and that's icky.

Sitcoms in general are piles of stereotypical, dumbed down, middle America shit.

Oh, and Netflix kicks Blockbuster's ass.

I agree about netflix.

I don't plan on watching the L word. Queer as Folk is better :D

Okay wasn't the point, but yes, sitcoms do generally suck. Netflix is too slow for my taste. I'm an instant gratification girl. If I don't like a movie I can take it back to Blockbuster and five minutes later I've got something else.

There are days I give thanks I don’t live in America.

And just about everyday, I'm glad I do live here. For better or worse, this is the first government based on the principles of the Enlightenment. America doesn't have all of the answers, and I don't like those currently in power, but we will keep working at it.

I lived in Europe for many years, so it is not like I am a head-in-the-sand American. How many other countries have a charter that starts off "We, the People,"?

Everyone can stop right there. I swear if you turn this into an America vs the world argument I will delete the thread and you can have it elsewhere. Take your stupid world politics out of my thread about a TV show. If you want to rant and rave at one another about whether or not America or Europe is better you can start your own thread and do it there.

The topic of this thread, since so many people seem to have missed it (I don't know how considering it's the thing you clicked to get here) is the L-Word. A Showtime original series. It isn't about net flixs it isn't about blockbuster it isn't about sitcoms, it isn't about America, it isn't about Europe and it isn't about your personal opinion on any of the things I just listed.

If you don't have anything to say about the topic you shouldn't be posting on the thread.

Yeah well I'm sick of hearing the same five arguments rehashed over and over and over on threads that have nothing to do with them. You love America she doesn't, explain to me what that has to do with the L-Word?

She may correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe her comment about America was a reference to the nature of American television programming, which makes it somewhat on topic. Overthebow seems to have taken it quite seriously though, so I suppose his point has nothing to do with the L Word at all.

Queer as Folk makes me hot. I really need to rent the whole seasons, as my dorm room doesn't get Showtime (we're lucky to have HBO now) and I've only been able to see some of the first episodes from the first season.

Shane

.... I love Shane. And I love the L Word. It's awesome. I need to watch the season finale tonight, but I'm too tired. Got to love that On Demand!

on demand rocks my world...

i always have to work on sunday nights, and the episodes are always available like the next day so i don't have to wait for the reruns!

i was chatting with my old roommates (a lesbian couple) about the show yesterday, and they said they loved the first season, but were getting disappointed with the second.

they think things have really slowed down, some storylines are getting too long and drawn out--and i am starting to agree. if bette and tina don't figure out what they're going to do, i'm going to give up on them completely, and i want to know what the FUCK is going on with Jenny.

Jennie bugs the heck out of me. She seems to just be confusion embodied and when she does make a choice it's usually one that makes her life even more complex and disasterous.

the L word came to australia last year and i watched it and enjoyed it, but i am still waiting for the next series, i am hoping that we get it here, but so far no news, also can't find the first series on box set here either:(

I'm a fan of both Queer As Folk and The L Word...

I'm hoping that Bette and Tina get back together...it would be nice to see a lesbian couple portrayed as being in it for the long run...

I've gotten pretty tired of Jenny and her weirdness...I haven't figured out if she doesn't remember getting raped or she just can't find a way to deal with it yet...but her little circus fantasies are just plain irritating...

Love Shane...don't know why...I just want a friend like her...

What? Where have you been? The Fox News crowd is saying the American Constitution was based on the 10 Commandments. :p

I haven't seen the L-Word because I just have basic cable but I will have to look for the dvds. Thanks for mentioning them!

I watched the first couple of L words and I liked it. Shane makes me wish I was a lesbian. Alas I only have so much time for television watching and I am already hooked on "Queer as folk", so "The L word" fell to the wayside. OMG does that mean I'm gay? LOL.

Extended cable package had to go... damn being broke! No more Shotime for this girl.

Shane is, in my opinion, the most well developed character. Bette and Tina don't have much realism, Alice whines SO much, Jenny attempts to find personality by becoming more neurotic... they're all still pretty two dimensional.

Now i'm waiting for the dvds. Anxiously, might i add.

So in other words, it's pretty realistic?

I have the biggest crushes on Marina and Shane...but that's only after watching the pilot episode. Hopefully, I will have time to watch the first two volumes of season one this week.

Jenny gets on my nerves.

Shane wouldn't have to ask me twice. She is just so hot.
