Chapter four in a romance novel, THE KISS, I've been posting has just shown up on Lit's New list. (see sig line for individual links). As is often the case with a series, there were a fair number of reads, votes and positive comments on the first one but the numbers dropped way off on the next two. Maybe it's the category, lack of coitus, August being a slow month or, sad to say, the writing.

Any thoughts on whether I should cointinue posting or pull the chapters already up and do some serious re-writing would be appareciated.

I have a lot of experience in writing serials, some chapters just don't seem to do as well as others.

I took a peek at a bit of the first chapter, and I liked what I read, enough so, that I plan on finishing it a bit later when I have time.

Whether you decide to continue with the story is up to you. If you feel you have something to say with the story, then by all means continue it. Don't worry too much about the numbers...it'll just give ya a case of the trots...

Far be it from me to offer a critique of the man who gave me my first AV...

but since you asked. I thought the writing was wonderful. I was hooked from the first mention of Sunday doubleheaders; you can't get more 60s than that. The only real problem I could see as far as developing a readership is that the pace of the story is sort of slow. I didn't have any problems with it personally, because I enjoyed the writing so much, but a lot of my readers (and I've posted a couple of serials) do tend to get a little impatient if the story doesn't move along. I've also found it much better to post at least two full Lit pages at a time, which usually means combining chapters. But that does seem to help maintain the readership. That and sex (even in "Romance").

As for numbers, I think it's inevitable that they will go down, but if enough people are enjoying it, and you're enjoying writing it, I can't see why you'd want to stop, particularly if the readership is building at all. In June, I posted a multi-part serial that I'd finished, so a new part came out each day for seven days. The "views" currently show like this: 11,539; 5,221; 7,336; 5,214; 7,123; 4,331; and 8,279. So eleven thousand people started it, and eight thousand finished, but only four or five thousand read the middle.

Marsh & Moon (kinda sounds a bit like an old vaudeville dance act)

Thanks to both of you. Marsh, I'll try to keep pacing in mind when I do the next re-write.
