the joy of flogging - endurance 1 - how often?

New to the art of flogging, and having frequently been reproached for being too gentle and not persisting long enough in some of my other punishments. I'd like to get a sense of a sub's ability to endure a severe flogging and most important, how often she can undergo this - twice a week, once a week, once a month ? I realize this will depend on factors such as body tone, experience, state of fitness and mood at the time, but in the spirit of the recent olympics (any chance this will ever become a qualifying sporting event ?) what would be a record for undergoing the most frequent flogging on an on-going basis ?

As you already noted, it will be different for every person so a little redundant to try and come to a figure of frequency etc. It also can be different for the same person dependent on a variety of factors such as health at the time, emotional state, psychological state, purpose. For instance, many will tell you that while they can take a long flogging or whipping done for pleasure, if given a light spanking, flogging or such for punishment they can descend into tears almost instantly and feel pain a lot more quickly and intensely. As to turning it into a competition....usually such ideas don't go well here as for most it is not about competing.:rose:

Like Cat said, it depends. Master varies the force he uses quite a bit and my pain threshold fluctuates according to a number of factors including menstrual cycle and whether a flogging is intended as play or as a chastisement. My emotional state has a huge bearing on how much I enjoy a flogging and where my endurance lies.

That's probably not helpful, but I'm afraid that's how it is for me.

There are also many different sizes of flogger, with thinner or thicker fronds and many different areas on the body where they can be applied. It really is a piece of string question.

Twice as long as half its length.

ETA - You might find this thread on flogging techniques interesting.

What they said.

I adore heavy, thuddy floggers. I could cheerfully go for hours (and several orgasms) and be perfectly delighted. Master's arm usually wears out long before I do. OTOH sharp, stingy floggers (while I still love them) usually get to me faster and push me to my personal limits. We have one that's absolutely vicious, can draw blood without much effort (not that I'm complaining) and Master is very careful to pace us both when using it.

The best way to find out is to calibrate with YOUR pyl. Encourage "reporting in" and keep trying. I suspect you won't mind the field research too terribly much. ;)

I was only half serious about the "competitive" aspects of flogging, however, I have found from personal experience, as a switch, that there is a tremendous thrill from trying to exceed your previous limits - not only to please your partner but to give yourself a sense of achievement. But that will be for another thread.

I guess my little knowledge of String Theory might be applicable here.

Thank you for those links - they'll provide great reading for the next few days. After undergoing a loving flogging encounter, how many days (or weeks) are required before you can enjoy another heavy flogging session?

Look forward to the research and your story.

How long does it take you to recover enough from a heavy flogging session to undergo a repeat? T

he topic of accurate feedback has been challenging me for decades - it is an incredible thrill to push one's partner to the edge of their limits but if it just "goes right" the pleasure of the afterglow, kissing and laying in each other's arms in totally spent is heavenly bliss.
Unfortunately, these truly magic moments have occurred far to rarely - a manifestation of the universal principle of "the inate cussedness of things".

Prior to June, it took me no more than a day or two to recover. I rarely bruised from the thuddy stuff, and welts raised from the stingy-er toys disappeared in a few hours, most of the time.

Unfortunately, as of June I'm on Coumadin (a blood thinner) for life. :( Since I still have pretty tough capillaries I don't know if I'll bruise more or not. It's going to be a tapdance to re-learn our calibrations, since bruising is clearly a risky thing now. (dammit dammit dammit) The crappy thing is, I still love the same level of pain, I'm just not sure how I'll be able to get there.

I'll have to agree with VelvetDarkness. There are so many variables to take into account. After my first experience which was very light, I was ready the next day. :rolleyes: After later times, a few days. It all depended on the amount of force and the residual effects on my body. When did the craving come back? That has always been back full force within the week.

Yes, but that is not competing with others in a style designed to supposedly find out who can do more, take more, claim supremacy so to speak. I would actually think it is not competing at all, just extending your limits and growing which is considered fairly normal by most. Different animal entirely IMO.

I play with a lot of different people and I've yet to figure out an answer except "ramp 'em up and stop when they call it, I give out or I can see I've reached the point where I'm doing damage/injury."

As to when they can come back for more? I've played with one sub several times in one week, I've left marks for days... but they were ready to come back for more the next day. Others I have played hard with wanted a week or more to recover before playing again.

Learn to read your partner, ramp them up - start light, increase intensity, back off a bit if they seem to be getting to close to calling the scene, then bring it up again. Repeat the increases and slight ease offs until they really do reach their limit and you'll find your ability to read their reactions improves with practice.

Have fun!

It is also important to remember that somebody won't feel the same or react the same every time. For whatever reason, some days they can take a whole lotta whacking, but, can't on other days. There can be a number of things involved, so, basically do what EG suggests as far as reading your partner.

Dear desertslave;

Loved the first installment of Impulse 101 and look forward to savouring the sequences. Very impressed with the eroticism and your lucid style of writing.

Sorry to hear of your requirement for Coumadin - is there no way you can achieve the same results through an all-natural diet regimen? I've heard of wonderful results from adopting a largely low-fat vegan diet with regular doses of omega-3 fat fish oil.

If you are condemmed to forego the pleasures of flogging, have you considered other forms of intense pain such as bare alligator nipple clamps as well as electric stimulation ?

Warmest regards,
Castagnus

Dear Catalina;

There is an enormous thrill in exceeding previously attained limits - especially if achieved together with one's loving partner. But isn't that what living is all about ? Shades of "To really live, you must almost die" (from the movie The Hanging Tree).

Read your "Awakening" last evening - very erotic and beautifully composed - fits right into my romantic notion of "loving pain". I very much look forward to savouring more of your eloquent bouquets of words.

Yes, exceeding limits can be very fulfilling..and inspirational for more extension. Hopefully one or both of us will submit some more of our writing to Lit...glad you enjoyed and could relate to some of what is already here.:rose:

Considering that vitamin K found in most vegan diets is a clotting aid and highly regulated when you're on blood thinners, I would guess you're thinking of something else. Though a good diet and lots of fish oil is never a BAD idea, of course.

I've been on these for a year. If I need to go on them again they'll probably also keep me on them. I do think they're a serious problem to painplay, honestly quite an ender. I'd think about irritants, mostly, and maybe abraision. Very superficial pain. A full bush and some tweezers. Electrostim? I'm not even sure about that one, maybe maybe not.
