I also have both. And their last proper album, when they went sort of shoe-gaze. As well as the weird EP they did when they reunited at the turn of the millennium.
That was their first single, produced and paid for by the band itself. There were only a few hundred copies on vinyl in existence until the songs were re-released on a retrospective CD in 2002. So, decidedly lo-fi.
It was also, in Julianne's [the singer] own words, "a bad sub-Siouxsie impersonation". I still like them and actually think there is something there and don't find them generic, per se.
Then they went hippy folk for a while, then sort of generic mainstream pop-rock briefly (I don't have that album), then shoegaze, and then non-existent.
So:
Still mid-80s Goth. / Transitionally between their early Goth and their neo-hippy folk period. / Maybe my favourite song on their first album, although there are some very silly lyrics about secrets in a temple. (Spending too much time with Wayne? I don't know.) / What they're best known for, both the song and, sadly, the television appearance. (A less crazy awkward version.) / Probably my favourite song on their second album, even if it does sound very dated now. Although this version doesn't have the pretty, ethereal intro. (Here.) / My favourite song on their last album, when they went sort of shoe-gaze (side note, there was a line-up change, their original guitarist left after their second album and was replaced by Marty Willson-Piper of The Church.)

As a totally isolated blurt, I am very saddened and disappointed with people who cant answer a straight question here. Sure wave your racism, sexism, belief, relief flag wherever the fuck you want. Thats why you start and participate in political threads... but not answering a single question asked multiple times by multiple people that had fuckall to do with, especially, politics, in this thread. Well. Even under free speech and boobies there is no rational discourse.

Sometimes, there are so many aspects involved, I feel overwhelmed when I am prompted to give a quickly produced response. My orderly thought process jams up.
I would be better off, asking to be given time to mull it over.
Somet things are multi- level, and are difficult to pin down.
