Certainly true, but the oxygen bonded to hydrogen in water is unavailable to form rust. Required is additional oxygen in order to form Fe(OH)3 which then needs the process of dehydration to yield a lovely batch of Fe2O3.nH2O(s)
Add some Al and heat if you really want to make a flash prize.
