Pool supplies. Is there a pool supply consortium controlling prices?

A simple skimmer basket is $11, made cheap as possible and never lasts more than a season or two. But I can buy a kids sand beach bucket for $3 and it is better quality?

A fucking bulk head fitting which is nothing but PVC double threaded and it is $49?

And that is Amazon prices!! Shit is double at Leslie's....

On a side note, fuck you East coast. The pool is 78 degrees and ready to go..

I avoid Leslie's like the plague. Pool is 65, so probably not getting in until mid to late April (although air temps forecast to be in mid 80s next week, so we'll see).

Amazon.

They don't tell you what the fucking book is about half the time now, just how great it is.

Amazon is shit for descriptions in general. The number of times I've had to go to other sites for specs for computer parts before buying them is ridic.

i don't have a pool, but i have been playing with bonfires this week - smell fab with the burning logs, look amazing, evoke so many memories and imagery... amazon don't sell the experience :)

Bottled water! The shits as expensive as gasoline. Any value added and heavy refining needed. They're selling the bottle it came in! Not even better than most tap water. I remember when yuppies were laughed at with their bottled spring water. Still laughing!

Conference calls.

In general they are terrible.

But what makes me want to throw the fucking phone is when some asshole wants to show how smart they are by asking questions they already know the answer to....

This.

And: I just got off the phone with the case manager for my Mom. I was inquiring about getting her on a list for assisted living.
I found out that insurance does not cover assisted living and the cost is $5000-$12,000 a MONTH. Are you fucking insane?

I spent hours on the pool last year. I might not even bother to open it up this year.

It was used twice, but the Queen sure loves how purdy it looks...

In the USA?

Had a friend go through this not too long ago.

There is a way to do it through Medicaid I believe. But you need to be destitute. If you are not completely broke, they will help you become broke. Basically she has to sign all assets over to the government. My friends dad had to sell everything, and empty all his accounts. They even went so far back in his banking that my friend had to repay 1200 that his dad had sent him 6 months ago. ( no transfer of assets to anyone).

All I know about it is his stories but for what it is worth........

Yes, this is State side. I thought there would be some sort of assisted living in her area, through her insurance policies.

So basically, you work all your life. Pay off your house, save some money. You get old and they take all that you have, from you, so you can live decent. Crap.

It's why folk had 5-7 kids many many years ago. One or two are bound to live and be successful enough to look after you. I believe the Russians don't like old folk homes. Old folk are day care and cooks while parents work. Traditional or a forced custom , *shrugs*.

I do it all the time now with books. Crazy.

It would take years to get her to Canada, so that is not an option. Is not ready for a nursing home (I hate those places...you just sit and drool away) but she could use some help. Having a nurse around, prepped meals it she chooses and activities. Some place nice....

Years?

Apparently meals on wheels is about to get a kicking down there.

have you considered her taking on a sort of companion/lodger? someone who'd take on the extra help she needs and go places with her in exchange for somewhere secure to live and a low wage or keep? no idea if that'd be covered or how it works out financially, and finding the right person who could be trusted would be really important.

Yes, years. There is a back log to sponsor a parent or grandparent. Last time I checked it was a 5 year wait.

She actually lives in a senior complex. But she is having a lot of medical issues and she just broke her leg and is in the hospital.
The security of having a nurse on call, is needed. We were all in agreement that she would be better off living with some assistance.
I will have to look at other options.

Oh, and I just signed her up for meals on wheels, for when she gets out of the hospital. Who knows if that will happen.

Hope I die before I get old....

Dog walkers

Most of them take up the entire path. Can I enjoy a peaceful jog without having to worry about your dog screwing that up. Some shouldn't even be allowed to be pet owners. And don't get me started about not picking up after their pets.

Five years! Holy crap! Might be worth a letter to your MP or MPP. Never know it might cut a couple of years off.
