The Island (Closed)

Jacques sat silently. He knew Paine’s reaction was from the shock of having her childhood memories torn asunder and not true anger. He thought perhaps he had gone too far and crossed into cruelty with his tale. But all he spoke was the truth. He had loved Marisa more than he could say, but she had lied to her granddaughter and filled her with foolish and dangerous fantasies. He also knew at that moment that he was in love with Paine. It was a very different love than he had ever known. He stood and slowly walked to the shivering young woman’s side.

Knelling he spoke softly, “Paine, I am sorry to have been the one to bring you the truth. I am sorry to have been the one to rip away your youth. But please understand it is my belief that those fantasies and fairytales did not serve you well that led me to lay bare the facts. I swear upon my own mother’s departed soul that every word I spoke was true. But you misunderstand when you think I feel any ill toward Marisa.”

Jacques gently massaged the broken girls shoulders as he continued to speak softly, “I do know what love is. I also know what it is not, my sweet innocent girl. God, I loved her, I love her still I think. I know she loved me too. It was no fairytale love though. We shared our love despite the horror of our lives or maybe because of it. But, oh damn, it wasn’t until I felt the things I feel for you that I discovered the awful truth. You are not the only one who has had the truth reveled here, Paine. Marisa was not a bad woman but our love was wrong. Our lives wee guided by the dark side of fate. It was the devil himself that took my mother, sent your mother to the scullery, brought me to Marisa’s bed and finally made me the monstrous master of this evil island!”

He pressed himself against the sobbing girl.

“I can naught undue any of these things. I can naught rid myself of the evil. But I can protect you from it I believe. Please forgive me for destroying your illusions, but knowing the face of evil is the only protection. Give your love to Byron. He will return it ten-fold. You can have the life you want. Let my love be the love of a protector and benefactor. I will not touch you again though it is my fondest desire to make love with you. Now I demand to know what happened to my Marisa. It is of great consequence to me. You see there is one other that she knew cared when she passed. I know she could not have died without thinking of me. Please tell me how she came to her end,” He begged.

When He touched her, she flinched, trying to draw away from Him, only to find the hard surface of the wall as her only comfort.. She was shaking, shivering.. so violently that she found it hard to breath, to think.... but one thing she did feel, and began to find as solice.. was the warmth of His body as He pressed into her, and in her despair, she turned, seeking that warmth...

"I demand to know what happened to my Marisa. It is of great consequence to me. You see there is one other that she knew cared when she passed. I know she could not have died without thinking of me. Please tell me how she came to her end,”

He was so very right in His thinking... Paine could atest to that. The night Marisa had died, she had not just thought of Him, but spoke of Him, in fact, she had almost prayed to Him, begging for His forgiveness and for His love. Paine did not know why she had pleaded for such when first off He was not there and secondly, forgiveness for what... she did not know then.... now she did....

She was still trembling against Him... and could not lift her head, nor her eyes, to look upon Him...but yes, she did answer Him... He deserved to know...

"she died of the wasting disease... consumption... during the winter of my 16th year... she fought the sickness, but it was too strong.. she was too old to fight it anymore... You said You know that she could not have died without thinking of You... " Paine voice was weak, quivering... whispered.... "and You are right about that.... JJJJacques... she... she begged Your forgiveness... and she begged for Your love... she did not realize I was there, it was as if she were speaking to You... I think.... maybe... she saw You in her eyes as the darkness took her... "

"I... I told her she was very much loved.... "

Paine could not go on... she was crying once more, a soft sound that barely escaped her lips... Everything had hit her so hard... but the worst of it all was one small, tiny fact, huddled in the midst of all that she had heard, and was having to deal with... something that Jacques had said during His angered rant...

"yes I loved her with all my being! I lay with her in bed every night. I cuddled with her. I worshipped her. Knowing the whole time her cunt dripped with other men’s seed.”

All Paine could think of was the fact that she had consumated... with Byron... willingly... after she had slept with Jacques willingly... another man's seed... she was no better than Marisa... no better than the whores she swore she would never be... but it was not about her... it was about betraying Jacques...

Betraying Jacques?? The thought struck her like a lightening bolt... what... what was she thinking??? Was she.. was she falling in love with the Master of the Island? Despite what He had done to her? Had she maybe..... deserved what she got... He being the one who... suffered??

She was finally beginning to calm... her sobs slowing... the guards who had come running at her screaming at the Master had quickly retreated, shutting the door behind them... They no more understood what was happening than Paine and Jacques did, but they knew their place. None wanted to incur the Master's wrath ....

"I'm sorry..... Jacques.... " she whispered... her head slowly lifting, she finally daring to look up at Him... her eyes moist... red... sad....

Jacques wept as he imagined Marisa, old and frail begging his forgiveness as she lay dying. No doubt she had been in great discomfort and as he knew her mind was likely nearly gone by then. The wasting disease always took the mind before the body finally gave in and let the pour afflicted soul rest.

"I'm sorry..... Jacques.... “

“Shhhhhh, my sweet Paine. Neither of you have any need of my forgiveness, least of all you. Dear sweet lady, you have naught done me any wrong. I wish with all my heart I had known whom you were when you came here. You know, I never told anyone of those days of my childhood before. I am not sure I even remember it all until now and there is something more something I want you to know. Something that perhaps I just now became fully aware of. Long ago when your mother was my playmate and dearest friend, she was my first love. Even though I was but a boy and she a few years younger she was more than a sister. I remember she kissed my cheek once. It gave me the queerest feeling. I have naught thought of it since until now as I look into your eyes. She is in you too. You are not Marisa and you are not your mother, but both are there inside you, Paine. Maybe, you have the best of them both in you. Maybe you can escape the evil that has set upon both our families for so long.”

He smiled at the first happy thought that found its way into his conscious since entering Paine’s room. He had come to make love to her, to fuck her, to find a brief moment of carnal happiness before giving her away. Her words had been a kick to the groin ending his fantasy of even a brief respite from his horrible life. Then he had returned the favor. Words had spilled out, memories long suppressed had been told to Paine. He regretted having been so brutal in his words. He should have found a way convince her of the fantasy without destroying her image of Marisa entirely. But it was too late for that. He thought of the sweet young Kilea that awaited him in his bed.

He thought of his friend Byron. The poor man was no doubt alone in his room suffering. His noble friend who he well knew loved Paine, would at the very moment be agonizing over images of his beloved lady servicing another man, perhaps even enjoying the ride. Jacques knew all to well the torture of such thoughts. Byron and Paine could make one another happy. Jacques would settle for a substitute. He would marry Kilea. With his eyes closed he would make love to her, while seeing his true love in his mind. Somehow he would block all else out. He had to do so for all to survive. He embraced Paine and held onto her. He knew he needed to tear himself away but he could not yet bear to go.

He pulled back and spoke in a soft halting voice, “Paine, I really should go, but before I leave there are some things you must know. Nothing that has happened since you were cast upon the rocks below my house has diminished you in any way. You are still the lady you were when you left your home. Please do not allow old teachings to torture your beautiful soul. Also, as you must already know there are two men in this castle that love you. One is I, the other a far nobler man, Byron. Though it causes my heart to feel as if it is being impaled upon spear of a great warrior, I want for you to be with the better man. I want you to have a chance at happiness. You have seen the darkness that rages within me. Though I would fight it, I know that it would consume you as it has me. Byron will love you and respect you no matter what. His loyalty is unquestionable. He will cherish you and shower you with love always, as it should be. He will give you the life I believe you want and deserve. ”

Jacques turned away to hide the look of despair on his face as he tried to say a last goodbye to Paine.

“Tell me now, honestly, do you have any feelings for Byron that would allow you to be his wife and let him love you? It is your choice of course.”

Before she could answer, Jacques asked the question that had been burning within him since he learned who Paine really was. Though he was not sure he really wanted the answer he had to know what had become of the sweet little girl he had last seen kicking and screaming as she was taken away.

“Think about what I have said and save your answer until the morrow. Now, before I go and leave you to your contemplation, will you tell me please of your mother? What has become of her?” He asked almost timidly

"Paine, I really should go, but before I leave there are some things you must know. Nothing that has happened since you were cast upon the rocks below my house has diminished you in any way. You are still the lady you were when you left your home. Please do not allow old teachings to torture your beautiful soul. She was still huddled against the wall, but at least her shivering had ceased at His touch... and His words... she was slowly shaking her head, so very weary, exhausted, emotionally....

"Jacques... You do not understand... " she lifted her head to level her eyes at Him.."You blame old teachings. That was not the case, at all. I never claimed to be a *Lady*... that title is reserved for royalty, and that, I am not. No, I am only me, the lowly daughter, unwanted daughter, of a kitchen wench. It, it was not old teachings that bade me to refuse You the first, or even the second time. It was not that at all. I wanted only one thing in my life Jacques, love... and I wanted to... wait for it... even if it never came... I wanted my... my body... to be a gift to that man... whole and complete... that was why I refused You... I am not the child with foolish dreams that maybe You thought I was... I never was.. You just refused to see that....I wanted to be... special to someone... but that... is gone now.."

Her voice faded.... she had so much racing, twisting, and turning thru her mind. But she had already made the decision that no one would change, or diminish her love for the Nanny, who turned out to be her Grandmother....

“Tell me now, honestly, do you have any feelings for Byron that would allow you to be his wife and let him love you? It is your choice of course.”

“Think about what I have said and save your answer until the morrow. Now, before I go and leave you to your contemplation, will you tell me please of your mother? What has become of her?”

"My mother" she whispered, managing to get to her feet, using the wall for support... "she is not a topic I wish to think about nor speak about in great detail. Until now I did not know how she came to be in the service of the Nobleman, in his kitchens. I was born in those kitchens. Unwanted, and unloved.. until .... Marisa.. My mother cared not for anyone or anything, other than her wine which she stole, and any man that would have her.. "

She took a deep breath...

"She was still alive when I left, Jacques... still in the kitchens..."

Paine reached out for Him then... "please don't go..." she whispered...reaching for and grasping His hand, she stepping away from the wall.. "please.. can we.. walk... something, anything... just don't go... " She was not even sure why she did not want Him to leave...

Jacques could see that he would learn little of his long lost friend. What little Paine did tell him made him not really want to know more. She had been doomed to an awful life and had apparently embraced that life. As Marisa had fretted long ago, the silky haired little girl had indeed become worse than a whore; so bad that she could not even love her own child. As he listened to Paine speak one sentence echoed in his head, I wanted to be... special to someone... but that... is gone now.."

She was wrong of course. Only the foolish men of society actually cared about virgin brides. But alas the nice girls just did not know that. They thought those that taught them to save their pussies like the treasure of an ancient temple did them a service. All they did was fill them with nonsense that in the end usually led to unhappiness.

"please don't go...please.. can we.. walk... something, anything... just don't go... "

He wanted to run, to be away from her and his desires for her. But he could deny her nothing. Inexplicably her happiness had become more important then his comfort.

“Paine, I will stay as you like. We can walk or talk or even sit silently and stare at each other. The choices are all yours now. But first I demand that you listen to me. You still do not understand about real love, real commitment. You are already special to someone. I think maybe you are special to both Byron and me in the way you have always desired. If it be not either of us that you want to have this special gift then indeed you can yet give it to another. It matters not to a real man how many cocks have been inside you before him. It only matters that you want his above all others. It only matters that once you make a commitment to him and he to you that the covenant is honored. Your virginity is merely a thing of your youth. Your pussy can not be used up just because once another man took it or you gave it. It is your love and passion that will make your husband whole and happy. Think now of it being the other way. Would you love a man more that had never dipped into another’s loins? You see a person is the sum of their life experiences if we love them then we truly love all that they are and have been.”

“You say you are not a lady because you are not born of nobility. Well my sweet one, I have known well many a noblewoman and none were half the lady you are. They paid me for the privilege of sucking my cock. They bent over and raised their skirts begging me to enter them. When I did so they bayed at the moon as if they were praying to Satan himself. Nobility has naught to do with being a lady. Your grandmother took money from disgusting pigs and spread her legs. She was born in a hovel to paupers who toiled in the fields of another. Yet she was always a lady. She lived her life on her own terms and it seems in the end made amends for any sins by raising you to be a true lady. She would not want your soul to be tortured because you lay with me, or Byron or even the whole of my army. Please embrace life, enjoy its few pleasures and when you find the man you want, if he is deserved of you then nothing that came before him will be a concern to him.”

Jacques kissed Paine softly on the cheek and sat caressing her as he let her absorb his thoughts.

"I have a question then..." she looked up at Him, her head slightly canted... eyes wide.... "You just said.. * Please embrace life, enjoy its few pleasures and when you find the man you want, if he is deserved of you then nothing that came before him will be a concern to him...*... What do You think is going thru Byron's mind right now? He has spoken of His love for me... as You have of Byron's love for me... knowing that I am to be with You for as long as You desire before being his... what is he thinking? Is he not concerned? Is he not caring? Does this not hurt him? Does the idea, that You have had me not bother Him?"

Paine was struggling to understand. Understand Jacques thinking, for it did make sense to her. But her heart would not let her. She knew that many, in fact most, lived by the same... standards... that Jacques had just spoke of... she knew that, she had seen that, and they had been none the worse for wear.. but still Marisa's voice whispered in her head, and in her heart.. "only lay with the one you love, and who loves you"... Paine's choice in that had been taken from her.. why did He not understand that small fact....

"and.. tell me one more thing Jacques... why is what You live by, why are Your standards, Your believes, Your pleasures more important than my own.. why did You not listen to me, ridicule me, shame me, and then... rape me... why? Why was it that important to You to take me that way... when You obviously could have any woman on this Island?"

She got up, pacing away from Him.... "and yet despite all that... I find I can not stop thinking about ... You"

Paine had unintentionally misspoke. The master had not known of the private intimate moments between her and Byron. Now he knew more than she had said. He could not imagine that Byron would have spoken of his love to the girl had they not been intimate. Though he felt the darkness and rage begin to take hold, somehow Jacques held it in check as he began to speak. His tone masked the facts of the new knowledge he possessed.

“Oh god, how mixed up you have things. I said that he would not care what cocks had been inside you before his and that is true. However, what he feels now is certainly not so simple. I know he is likely in his room suffering with heartache. If he is the man I believe him to be he is tortured and torn by his emotions. On the one hand he must be imagining the woman he loves lying naked and enjoying carnal pleasures with another man. On the other hand he knows well that it is best for the both of you that this is what is happening. He trusts that I will not hurt you and that I will honor my pledge of stepping away in a fortnight so that you two can be together. As far as what you think I took from you, I am sorry that I forced you and hurt you. I can not explain and I doubt you could understand anyway. Let us just leave it at we both learned valuable lessons.”

Jacques could not go on. The darkness grew stronger as he thought of Byron and Paine betraying him. He fought against the urge to strike her and condemn her.

“Now my sweet, you must stop thinking of me, for it seems you have made your choice. What you made me take, it seems you gave maybe even offered to Byron. Though you no doubt meant to hide it obviously you two were alone when he spoke to you of his love. Well I know that that could only have been since the day we shared the bliss of coupling; since he and I made our pledges. Fortunately, for the both of you, I have not the heart to punish or rescind my word. I love you each far too much now. I will go and tell him he has won you.”

Jacques wanted to storm out of her room. But he felt as if his boots had been nailed to the planks on the floor. His legs would not answer his command. His rage grew ever stronger. He had to escape so as not to lash out at her.

What you made me take, it seems you gave maybe even offered to Byron. Though you no doubt meant to hide it obviously you two were alone when he spoke to you of his love.

Paine's breath caught at that, and she stared up at Jacques... she had no clue that she had misspoke, the wording had come across as benign to her, she had not admitted anything.. yet He was accusing her... the problem was, Paine knew His accusations to be true.. and deep inside her she was struggling with lying outright about it, denying it, admitting it... but then she let the words stream before her mind's eye once more...

What you made me take, it seems you gave maybe even offered to Byron.

"I did what???" she hissed, not meaning to sound as upset as that, as angry... "What I made... MADE YOU TAKE?" Paine stepped back from Him..

"I did not MAKE You take anything... And .. You have NO idea what happened between me and Byron so don't stand there and assume that You do." She, tho, did not elaborate further, because she could not. She wished she had not consumated with Byron.. wished she had turned him away... or he turn her away.. anything... but she could not outright lie to Jacques.. she would trip over her words if she did...

And... she was too enraged at the thought that she MADE Him take from her... take her virginity... she MADE Him rape her....

"All I did was say NO.... You Bastard... I didn't make You rape me... I didn't ask for it, beg for it.. I didn't want it... You know what.. I don't have anything mixed up... YOU DO... All I ever wanted was the love of a man whom I could gift with something very valuable to me.. my virginity... but guess what.. I MADE You take that from me... I flaunted my body, begged You to be raped.. is that it?? That's just the way of the world, trust me I know all about that. Sex to most people means nothing beyond the physical pleasure.. It meant so much more to me..It used to.. not anymore.. I'm so confused that I GAVE myself to YOU... I gave myself to Byron... when I should have known better.... "

Paine stopped, suddenly realizing what she just said... she went pale... her hand slapping over her mouth... She had said much to much.. she had just condemned a man that she had feelings for.. a man who loved her.....

Her tyraid had again brought the guards to the door, they not quite understanding what was happening, but knowing that their job was to protect the Master at all costs, so yes, they peered into the room, at the clearly upset girl....

Paine panicked, knowing what she had just done, knowing she had just condemned Byron... Paine made a grab for the guard's dagger...

Jacques was already in motion when Paine went for the dagger. He grabbed her and effortless tossed her to the floor. The guards drew their weapons and took a defensive posture.

“Stand down! I do not need your help,” Jacques wailed before turning back to Paine who lay upon the floor bruised but not broken.

The guards withdrew but stood nearby, on alert.

“As for you, bitch. Silence your evil tongue or I shall have it torn from your mouth! You need not fear my retribution however. My word remains my bond. He is yours and you his if the two of you can stand your combined stench. I shall naught touch or speak to either of you again. You shall have your freedom from my house at once. Sadly, you know far too much of me to allow either of you to depart my island. You shall live under guard in the fishing village which is as far as I can send you. I will be glad to be spared seeing you two together. The anguish of reliving the betrayal of my dearest friend with my love would be too much for even my black heart to bear.”

Jacques left Paine alone on the floor, ordering the guards to see that she remained in that room until he sent an escort to take her away. He felt all love drain away as the darkness took complete command of him. He had not lied though; no harm would come to Byron or Paine. Others would suffer his wrath. He went directly to where the young guardsman from earlier awaited judgment. The master stormed into the small one room shack where the young soldier lived with his new family. There he found the boy huddled with his wife and baby. The guardsman handed his son to his wife and dropped to his knees before the ragging master.

“Please, m’lord. Take me away and give to me the punishment I deserve and willingly accept. But I beg, do not let my action bring harm to my wife and child. Leave them be and please, let them not even have to witness my due,” He said with tear filled eyes.

The young man’s wife and baby both wailed. The woman dropped to her knees to beg for mercy for her husband while still holding the swaddled baby.

“Please, master, spare my Johnny. Use me let me give you pleasure to ease the anger. I pray thee, my husband is a good and loyal man. He told me of the days happenings, eh did naught by try to be an honorable man. Please do not make him to suffer for the sins of others.”

As is wife offered herself up as payment young John tried to silence her, but to no avail. She was determined to save him. Her love was for him was greater than even her desire to breath. She would happily allow the master to take her in anyway that would sooth his savage rage.

Jacques grabbed the young guardsman’s shoulders and gripped him as if he planed to crush the life from his body.
“What does your woman speak of? What do you know of other’s sinning against me? Speak while you still have breath to give you voice!” Jacques demanded.

The terrified guardsman told him the entire story of what he had scene and what had transpired that morning in the woods. Though he knew it to be so already, hearing another lay out the whole scene in vivid detail brought Jacques to the brink. He tossed the guardsman down so forcefully the impact with the floor brought from a crimson flow.

“Never lie to me again, boy or you shall see you son’s lifeless body laid at you feet and I shall see your head mounted upon a pike. Once you are gone your pretty and valiant wife shall be nothing more than a whore to your comrades. Clean him up good woman even though doth not deserve such a prize as you.”

Jacques left the little family alone to lick their wounds and count their blessings. Providence had somehow saved all their lives that day. The master went looking for another to vent his rage upon. The castle however was already alive with the tale of what had happened. All of Jacques people knew well to avoid the man. All but one. Kilea having no other option remained in the master’s chamber. It was her home now, Jacques had ordered it and no matter the danger it was far more dangerous for her to be elsewhere and make him hunt her.

Jacques burst into his rooms and slammed the heavy door so forcefully that the castle itself seemed to shake. He did not notice the girl sitting by the window studying the healing texts her mother had given her. He fell upon his great bed and began to sob. The big man’s body shock and his tears flowed freely. Kilea was terrified and knew not what action if any she should take. Her own heart was in great pain watching her master in such despair. He was clearly suffering. She only knew one thing that seemed to calm him. She stood quietly and shed the simple dress she wore. She had well learned that he liked the feel of her naked body. She hoped to comfort him by offering it to him. She walked to the bed and lay beside him. She draped her body over his broad back and massaged him as she softly nuzzled and kissed the tears from his face.

“M’ lord, please how can I help thee?” she asked innocently.

He rolled to his side and pulled the pretty young woman into his arms. He buried her face in her exposed breasts and sobbed softly. She held him and caressed him allowing him to pour out the tears that had been stored inside his soul for many long years. After a long while the sobs stopped and he spoke softly to her.

“Undress me and make love to me, please,” He whispered.

Starting with his heavy boots she carefully removed his clothing. He gave no resistance or help to her. It was almost as if he was a helpless child afflicted with some malady that made him lethargic. Once naked he just lay upon his back while she caressed his shivering body. She kissed his lips and then his neck, shoulders and chest. The curly hair on his body tickled her nose as she kissed and licked her way down his body finally reaching his cock. He responded immediately to her touch. His cock grew and twitched in her hand as she began to lick his emerging glans. He moaned as she took him into her warm mouth, caressing his shaft with her soft lips. She fondled his balls as she took him deeper than she had before. Though she had little experience something told her his climax was near. She turned around and straddled her master. She looked down at him lovingly. The man everyone on the island feared now lay under her almost helpless. He moaned softly as she took hold of his throbbing cock and guided it to her opening. Her pussy swallowed him. She began to gently ride him. To her surprise her body reacted. The combination of the love she felt for the great master, the look of him happily laying as she rode him and the feel of his large thick member deep inside her was stirring pleasures she had never felt before.

He gasped and moaned, “I love you,” as his cock exploded deep inside her.

She felt her first orgasm as she continued to move up and down on his cock. Neither knew that she was ripe that day and his seed would find fertile ground. Though his words had been spoken with another’s image in his head it was Kilea that had soothed him. He decided as he lay with the pretty young woman writhing on his slowly shrinking cock that he would make her his bride. Paine and Byron were dead to him. Kilea was good for him. She could quiet the beast and bring from the darkness. She was simple and did not question him. He reached up and took her into his arms. He pulled her tight to him. They both enjoyed the feel of their flesh pressed together. However, the pace of Jacques heartbeat scared Kilea. She knew he still raged even if she had quieted him for a bit. She feared not for herself, but for others of the island.

The escort came, it felt like hours later, but he did come, he and 2 guards. Paine, had gone silent, had said nothing since He had stormed out of her room. She was bruised, the breath having been knocked out of her.. and for a moment, as she lay there at His feet, she wished she were simply dead...

Paine was taken from the Keep, to the small fishing village that sat percariously on the opposite side of the Island... it would seem that she had come full circle, since it was this same village where she had washed up upon... it felt like years ago...

Her living conditions were laid out to her... If Byron chose to join her, he would, otherwise he would be banished to another part of the Island. If he chose not to, she would remain alone, she would not be allowed to leave the village, leave the Island, and she was NOT allowed anywhere near His Keep... It was simple and to the point.. and with that she was left alone, always there would be guards nearby, and none were too happy with the long term assignment. They disliked the ugly girl already, this only made their dislike grow into hatred...

Paine curled up on the floor of the small shack... there was not much there, a blanket, a table, a couple of chairs, a pot for cooking in the fireplace... she did not care... she retreated inside herself... she felt more empty... more despair.. more shame.. than she ever had her entire life... she felt foul and tainted... inside.. not because of the sex.. but because of what had happened around her, because of her...

She made the decision that if Byron came to her, she would send him away... He deserved better than she ever could be. He deserved a wife that would bring him honor... honor to his name... to his children... she could never do that...

"I am better off alone" she told herself..

It was that thought that took her to the darkness of sleep...

The next morning Jacques awoke still on his back with Kilea in his arms atop him. He gently moved her aside and dressed without bathing. He did not need to be clean for the task ahead. He knew that Paine had already been taken from his house and was gone forever. He himself would inform Byron the of situation. He walked sadly though the halls to his former captain’s quarters. As was his habit he entered without knocking and found the big man still sleeping; an empty bottle of port on the floor.

“Wake up you treacherous pig!” Jacques bellowed.

Byron was startled awake but in the haze of his hangover did not quite make out who was invading his sanctuary. He stood and lunged at the intruder not knowing it was his master and friend. Jacques easily sidestepped the still half-drunk and hung over man. Byron went sprawling on the floor at the feet of the new captain of guard who had accompanied the master. Captain Gregor was eager to show off for the master. He grabbed Byron by the collar and yanked him to his feet.

“How dare you make a move toward the master pig!” Gregor barked.

Then the captain drove his knee into Byron’s groin. As the groggy man dropped in pain Gregor rammed his fist into the helpless man’s face sending him reeling across the room.

“Stop, fool! I need to speak with him before you beat him unconscious,” Jacques ordered.

The master had pledged not to touch Byron, but that did not mean he would not allow Gregor to beat the man.

“Byron, your betrayal has gone beyond anything I could imagine. Your little slut has told me of your tryst. However, I will not have your head as I should. I gave my word and that word shall be law! As I am sure you understand, neither of you can leave the island. If you still want the bitch, I will have you taken to her when Gregor is done with you. If not the post on the cliffs is still yours for the asking.”

Byron tried to apologize and explain but Jacques dismissed. The master’s final act before leaving the room was to spit upon his old friend. He was through speaking to him. Jacques paused in the corridor and listened to Byron’s painful wails as Gregor began to beat the defenseless former captain. Jacques knew well that Gregor hated his former commander. Byron had held Gregor back. He knew that the new captain was nothing but a vicious brute who took pleasure in inflicting pain. The master’s only order to Gregor was not to kill Byron. The captain followed his orders well. When Byron was deposited on the door step of the tiny shack where Paine awaited him he was unconscious, bruised and bloodied and had several broken bones. But he was alive and with the help of his friend, Helena the old healer he would stay alive.

Paine heard a sickening thud outside the door to the small shack, the sound awakening her from a troubled sleep... She was against the wall, holding a log from the hearth in her hand.. she was not about to let anyone take her again, rape her again... Her dreams had been dark, filled with images of Jacques raping her yet again, of the guard... of others... For a moment Paine was having trouble distinguishing real from her dreams... She mistook the thud and the now pititful groans as someone wishing to attack her....

It took her some minutes before she crawled to the door, opening it only enough to look out. It was dark, very dark, more than likely the mid of a moonless night. But Paine could see the bloodied and beaten body of Byron laying at her doorstep...

"Byron!!!" she cried out, dropping her log weapon and quickly crawling to His side... Paine knew not to bother crying for help..... The village was not happy about being the bearers of the ugly girl and the dishonored Captain... or the guards that were now always in their midst.....

Byron was in bad shape. Somehow Paine managed to drag Him into the shack without hurting Him further.. she was appalled at what she saw.. she thinking that obviously Jacques was not a man that kept His word about anything... She hissed a curse... wishing the Master of the Island dead in the same breath as she tried to make Byron comfortable.

Helena showed up not a few minutes later. Paine allowed the healer in, puzzled as to how she knew that Byron was there and in such bad shape. Helena explained that she had been visiting with her daughter when the Master came back, and it was He that sent her to the shack in the village...

"How nice of Him" Paine snapped... then went quiet... the words were obviously dripping with hatred... so obvious that Helena paused to glance at the girl..

"Hate like that can eat away at you soul my dear" she commented...

"I no longer have a soul... healer... your Master tore that from me the night he raped me... and even now has shredded any faith I had left by going back on His word... " Paine hissed the words... hatred dripping from her voice...

Helena knew it was better to let the girl calm down... so she went silent... as she worked on Byron....

It would be days... weeks... before the Captain... the Ex-Captain would heal...

Helena visited daily... with herbs and bandages.. pain killing teas and salves... Paine followed Helena's orders diligently, and found she had a natural talent for healing, which please Helena greatly... The Captain was in good hands...

Paine made a few coin by helping at the docks with the fish, gutting and scaling, an exceedingly disgusting job, but it got her coin to buy food, and more blankets for the shack. She even managed to convince the merchant who came with fresh chicken and goose, to sell her the plucked feathers... Paine taking the time to carefully sew 2 blankets together and stuff them with the feathers, giving Byron a softness to lie upon.... It had cost her alot, she had worked at the docks for many long hours... but at least now He had a soft bed... it would be better for Him to heal... she slept on the floor at His side...

Her days were spent at the docks, from just after sunrise, after she had seen to Byron... til almost sunset... she would come back to the shack, and wash up using the water she would heat in the large kettle in the hearth, a bath was a luxery she could not afford... and with the guards following her where ever she went, she would not and could not take advantage of the small spring and waterfall that was but an hour walk from the shoreliine
village.. to bathe...

And speaking of the guards, they were becoming increasingly hateful and angry at their lot in life, having to watch over the troll of a woman...

Paine would then make something for herself and Byron to eat... she always made sure He ate first and finished His meal... He needed His strength... then she would relax near the fire, sometimes just humming an old childhood song to herself... Byron often was not all that aware of what was happening around or to Him, He had been that badly beaten..

Sometimes Paine made elaborate plans in her mind to just kill Jacques.... but she could never do that... as much as she at the moment HATED Him....

But as time passed, Byron began to heal... slowly... Paine knew the herb teas that she gave Him every morning and night dulled the pain and also pretty much kept Him asleep.. so as He healed, she began to brew the teas much weaker... wanting Him to awaken.... needing Him to awaken...

The days passed quickly for Byron as he spent most of his time in a fog. He knew he was being well cared for by both Paine and Helena. The loving and tender way that Paine treated him caused his own love for her to grow daily. Yet something troubled him, there was an awful hatred in her. Or was it another emotion wrapped in hate? He wasn’t entirely sure of anything, except his growing love and desire for her. As his strength returned he began to realize that she blamed Jacques for his condition. He knew he had to correct that misconception. Yes, the master could have stopped Gregor, but why should he? Jacques had been true to his word; he had not laid a hand on Byron or Paine, though by all rights both should have suffered for their crimes. At least that is how the disgraced captain felt about the situation. Gregor had beaten him for his own purposes not in the name of the master. One day he asked Paine to send for Helena, which she quickly did.

“Helena, you are an old and dear friend. Please do me the favor of telling Paine who beat me and why,” He asked of the old woman.

The healer did exactly that, telling the young woman the full honest story. She told her how Gregor had long hated Byron. She told what all the islanders knew by then that Gregor was a cruel man who took the opportunity of Captain Byron’s misfortune to exact revenge. What she didn’t say was that Gregor had go on wielding his cruelty on others. Many had suffered and two had already died. She also did not say that the master was in seclusion and did not know of his new captain’s activities.

Jacques had not left his rooms since banishing the woman he loved and his dear friend. He knew Gregor had beat Byron but had no idea he had been beaten so severely. No one other than Helena knew just how close the big man had been to death. No one other than Byron knew that he had been blinded in one eye and his hearing was impaired. To those that saw him it seemed the only permanent damage was a slight limp from a battered and broken leg.

The master had spent his days and nights being cared for by Kilea. They made love frequently as it was the only thing that gave Jacques any happiness. Kilea had learned how to please her master sexually and he in turn had taught her the joys of carnal coupling. She enjoyed sex and her love for her master grew stronger with all the private intimate time they shared. She was overjoyed when he told her she was to be his wife. The castle was being prepared for a grand wedding. The only ones not preparing to celebrate were the inhabitants of the tiny fishing village. A few of them knew of the impending nuptials but all were forbidden to speak of it in the presence of Paine or Byron.

They all knew that the news meant that they would be stuck with the homely woman and her man, the broken disgraced guard captain. They also were stuck with quartering numerous members of the master’s guard. Their once secluded village where the affairs of the great estate seldom touched was now an occupied realm. The master’s guards were surly and cruel because they hated their assignment. These men were now far from the whores that serviced the barracks, leaving the village women unsafe from their lust. The village men fared little better. Several had been beaten for the sport of it. The small inn where once the fishermen had drank after a long day upon the sea now only served guardsmen. The guardsmen were poor customers, only paying when they felt the need and demanding extra service. The innkeeper’s two daughters had been turned into whores and were paid little for the privilege. Captain Gregor apparently approved of his men’s activities and dismissed all complaints. Unbeknownst to the master the seeds of an uprising were being sown.

Byron was healing well, altho Byron kept the fact that He was blind in one eye and the issues with His hearing and sometimes even His balance, to Himself... Paine suspected that He had been injured worse than He was letting on... but at least He was healing.. slowly....

She knew the precarious balance they had going there, that if any sensed the weakness in the former Captain, there would be a chance that they would be attacked and slaughtered. So she never pushed the issue...

Yes, it was the Guard's duty to protect both Paine and Byron as well as keep them in the village, but most cared little for the girl and the disgraced Captain.. they took what time they had to indulge themselves....

It was not lost on the observant young woman what had been happening around them...

Paine levelled her dark eyes on the Healer as she told her of Gregor and how it had been he that had beaten Byron nearly to death... very nearly to death... but Paine would have none of it.. It mattered not to her who did the actual beathing..

"No... He is indeed guilty of nearly killing YOU Byron... He approved of the beating.... He was aware of the beating I am sure... HE is MASTER of this god forskaen Island, and is totally responsible for nearly killing YOU.. it matters not who weilded the blows that nearly paralyzed You, that blinded You.. that almost ended Your life... Byron... He is responsible.. and I will make sure He knows that someday... "

Paine turned to Helena... "As for you... I thank you for saving Byron's life, without you surely He would have died a slow and painful death... but I do not want you coming here anymore and speaking of HIM... You many come as long as all words, thoughts, anything, about Him, of Him, are left behind. I will not have the Master coming into this little place that I call home anymore, not in word, not in thought... "

The hatred she felt was festering, that was obvious... Paine was angry and bitter...

"I see what the guards are doing to the poor people of this village, guards that HE is responsible for." tears formed in Paine's eyes... she had seen the Innkeeper's 2 daughters, one was her own age, and had actually extended a hand of friendship to the ugly girl, something that Paine found almost priceless.. she had seen what was happening to them... mattered not that both of them were virgins until the guards got ahold of them...

Paine had heard the talk, the story, how both were deflowered, raped, right there on the Inn's floor, how they were passed around from man to man.. screaming as they were raped over and over..

The image haunted her... in her dreams... in her waking hours... She wanted to stop what was happening, desperately... and could only think of one way to do that... if she could...

As the Master prepared for a wedding...

Paine prepared to become the whore she never wanted to be...

But she would not lie to Byron... He needed to understand... "If I allow the Guards to use me... maybe they will leave the girls of the Village alone.." she tried to explain to Him...

Byron and Helena stared at Paine; both shocked by the horror of her words. Helena was the first to speak. Byron dare not interrupt her. He respected her too much and the fire in her eyes would have told any observer that would brook no interference.

“Silence, you stupid girl! You think you know all, but you truly know almost nothing of the world. Do you really believe giving up your cunt to these pigs would save those poor girls? Do you not know what the guards think of you? Do you not hear the whispered words of contempt? I have heard them say that their cocks would shrivel away at just the thought of fucking you,” The old healer said incredulously.

“There are but a few souls on this island that care at all for you,” She continued. “Most wish that the sea had swallowed you instead of tossing you upon our rocky shore. But, I have counted myself amongst those that care for you. I have naught ever blamed you for any of the current troubles. I know you did not choose or want to come here. The fates sent you here for their nefarious purposes and so you are here. None of what has happened is your doing. These people though need someone to blame. It cannot be the master; for what you fail to see is that he is loved as all lords are so loved. He does care for them in ways you simply do not know. Most would be dead if not for him.”

“But what is truly odd is that you seem to naught know who it that cares the most for you. It is the man whom you say you despise; the man you think is purely evil. It is the very man who let you and Byron live even when you broke his law!”

The older woman waved off Paine’s attempt to interrupt. The younger woman looked to Byron for some reassurance but his eyes told her to be silent and listen.

“Yes you broke the law! You foolish child that you are seem to think you have the freedom to do as you please. On this island we do as Jacques commands, just like on any estate the people do as the lord or King or whomever rules them commands. Why you did not learn this at your mother’s knee I cannot understand.”

“And..and .. damn you!” She stuttered as she continued growing angrier with each word. “That master that you think caused all of this misery knows nothing of what has occurred on his island since you so callously revealed your betrayal!”

“Any other than you and Byron would be minus your heads for such crimes. H loves you both too much to have caused you any harm. Even still I lay no blame on you, nor do I think you can fix anything. Even though at this moment the master gets his comfort in the arms of my daughter. Even though I washed her virgin blood from his sheets, I do not harbor ill toward you. However, I will not listen to your ridiculous orders! My god I do not understand where you get your arrogance. You are like me bound to this island. You may make no demands of me or anyone else. Byron is my dear friend. I will tend to him as I see fit and I will speak the truth to him and you.”

Helena’s heart was racing and her breathing becoming labored. Byron moved to stand and stop her before she was overcome by her emotions. But the old woman would not be stopped before she had had her say. She raised her hand as if to push him back and he quickly retreated not wanting to fight his dear friend.

“There are some truths you need to hear. Giving your cunt to those filthy animals that guard you will save no one. Even if they were to lie with you they would still take others. It is their nature and it is the rule of their leader the good Captain Gregor. All you would succeed in doing would be the final destruction of this poor man who has given all he has due to his love for you! Now I must go and tend to my business for my daughter’s nuptials are in two days.”

Helena left leaving both Paine and Byron shocked by the news of the master’s impending wedding. With his friend gone it was Byron’s turn to speak the truth to Paine. He did not let the room stay silent long or allow her to break it with her own words before he could speak.

“Paine, all that she said is true. I am truly sorry for some of those words. But sweet dear girl as she said whoring yourself to the guards would naught save anyone. Besides I would kill them before it could happen. I love you too much to see you used like that. If you told me it was your desire to frolic with one of them I would not stand in the way, but never again will I see you lie with one you do not choose. I am sorry I was too great a coward to fight Jacques for you. But had I done that I would be dead and you either dead or suffering his retribution in some other way. Believe me death is not the worst horror life has to offer. I made an unholy bargain to try and save you misery in the hopes that it would mean we could be together. I prey thee can forgive me for it and understand my motives,” He said tearfully as he dropped to his knees to beg her forgiveness.

“Paine he is not all evil. I know there is a sickness in him that manifests itself in horrible actions, but there is goodness there too,” He went on as he stared into her eyes. “I broke the bargain and he still honored his word. It was his word that kept Gregor from killing me. He forbade it. If he knew how severely the bastard had treated me the master would have acted. If he knew half the cruelty of his new3 captain he would act. It is the captain that commands and controls the guard. Their actions reflect Gregor’s approval. Jacques loves you deeply, perhaps as much as myself love you. He hides from the world and fails in his duty to protect his people because of what we did my love. He truly wanted your happiness. In payment all he wanted was a few days of happiness for himself.”

“It was too much to ask of you and too painful a thing for me to bear. He should of known that it would not work. The fates will likely never allow him true happiness. He will try with Kilea. I believe he will treat her well and be good to her. But no matter how comforting she is too him she cannot give him what he needs to end the darkness. Helena has told me that the girl seems very happy with him. I am sure the news that her daughter is to be wed pleases my old friend.”

“Now lets us add our own happy news. Forget trying to save others with you body. Marry me, be my wife and let your body be only for me from now forward. I will protect and cherish and love you beyond measure. These I pledge will my soul. Paine, I promise I will find a way to fix what has gone wrong. I will talk to Jacques and make him see the evils of Gregor. I am the only one who can. He will at least listen to me. Others might well lose their heads for trying to speak against the Captain.”

Having said all there was to say, Byron fell silent. He wanted to reach out and pull her into his embrace. But she had not yet said her feelings; had not yet accepted his love. His love for her burned inside him. He knew that id she rejected him his life would be at an end. He would still go to Jacques and testify against Gregor. But afterwards he would leap from the high cliffs into the final embrace of the sea.

To be honest, Paine was getting more than tired of being told how great Jacques was, that He was the Master and they were beholden to Him to obey His laws... that He was not truely evil, that inside, there was some good..

But again, to be honest, Paine no longer believed any of it... the moment that Byron was lain at the door to the shack, beaten nearly to death, her hatred burned, a hatred that would not be appeased by words from either Helena, nor Byron... It was that simple...

She had not asked to come to this god-forsaken Island, and from moment ONE.. she had been punished for who she TRIED to be... She was beaten, raped, seduced... all for the pleasure of ONE Man... that was how Paine saw it...

Come to find out this one Man was tied to her .... how strange coincedence was ... bringing her here to this particular Island... to this particular Man...

She stepped back from Byron.... having listened to both His.. and Helena's rantings. Paine vowed then and there to begin the task of learning healing, because she would not deal with that woman again. It was that simple... She had learned some already... she could and would, learn more. She knew there was a elderly, very elderly healer in this village, an old man named Samuel.... Yes, she would learn healing.... She was not as stupid as many on this rock seemed to think.. Paine would prove that...

That decision made actually made her feel better... It gave her something to do.. to hope for.. That and the idea that she indeed would get off this place one day.. another vow she made internally... whether it be by boat or death, she would not give the Master the satisfaction of thinking He had indeed trapped her here for all eternity... but that would be dealt with later...

"Marry me, be my wife and let your body be only for me from now forward. I will protect and cherish and love you beyond measure."

The words wound around Paine, slithering, sliding, caressing, touching.. as if seeking a way into her soul... her heart.... but Paine had put up a wall, hard and fast... it was her only defense... But she could not and would not deny her feelings for Byron... Even now He was the only one who showed any measure of kindness, of compassion, of any feeling other than blind devotion to the Monster they called the Master... He was even ashamed that He had not challenged Jacques... He was begging her forgiveness.. offering His love.... Byron was the only real Human on this place filled with drones of the Master....

Paine had thought she was falling in love with the Master... a feeling she found almost reprehensible considering what He had done to her...that feeling had now turned to abject hatred...

Her love... would be for the man before her... who had suffered because of HER... she owed Him her life... and at the very least... her love...

She had turned away from Him as He spoke, the words, along with Helena's had tried to hurt her, wound her.. and she had withstood that assault.. as she saw it... she now turned to face Him, brushing back a long curling tendril of her dark hair, meeting His questing eyes with her own dark gaze... her head canting aside just a little...

A soft, nearly inperceptable nod... "I.... I would like that ... Byron" she answered... stepping into His arms... needing to feel someone hold her... no.. that was not it... she was needing to feel HIM hold her.... Paine wrapped her arms about the Captain... laying her head to His chest.. His heartbeat comforting to her...

"one thing tho... Byron... please.. do not go to Him, I will never trust Him again, and do not want to risk anything happening to You. No matter what You or Helena say, He is responsible, He claims to be Master of this place. I care not what Gregor does anymore. I am tired of trying to help and only being berated for it, called stupid.. I am tired of it all.... "

He pulled her into her arms, savoring the moment. She had just fulfilled his every desire. But she had also asked the impossible of him. It was his duty to his men and the people of the island to try and help relieve them of the cruelty of Gregor.

“Paine, you make me the happiest man alive. But even so I cannot accede to your one wish. I would give you anything that it was in my power to give. You must understand Gregor is a truly evil man. He delights in the misery of others. Jacques has been weakened and may pay little attention to his estate for some time to come. In that time many will suffer. I cannot stand idly by while good folks are hurt needlessly. I love you and I want our life to be free of guilt and strife. Please understand I have to try.”

Not waiting for her to respond, he went to the table and quickly wrote a note to his old friend and master. Having not a proper seal he closed the folded paper with a clump of wax dripped from an ordinary candle. He pondered how quickly circumstances change as he scrawled his mark into the hardening wax.

Turning pack to Paine he said softly, “I am sorry but I must do this before we can start our life together.”

He stepped outside the tiny cottage and spoke with the guard. Upon asking the guard to take the note to the master he got a grunt and a not convincing nod of agreement.

“Guardsman, though you think me naught but a disgraced and powerless man, I assure you I still count many friends amongst the guardsmen and people of this island. You well know that your orders prohibit harming either the woman or me. I am under the protection of the master’s orders and even your powerful Captain Gregor cannot help you if you fail in this simple request. Be well assured that if I do not receive a reply from my old friend Master Jacques you will suffer for your insolence. Further I suggest this conversation does not pass beyond us,” Byron spoke in a harsh commander’s tone.

He could see the guardsman was suitable concerned with the possibility that his old captain spoke the truth. The message would be delivered quietly without Gregor knowing. Now all there was to do was wait and hope that Jacques was not so isolated that he would not make time for the meeting. Byron returned to the cottage, closing and locking the door behind him. He hoped that Paine and he would spend the rest of that day without concern for anything beyond the walls of their small abode. He wanted to make love to her. He went to her and pulled her into his arms. He kissed her deeply and then whispered words of love desire into her ear as he held her to his rapidly rising and falling chest.
