In 1948, after being mortal enemies with Germany the USA did something remarkable.
It bailed the country out and backed it's currency to get Germany back on its feet. It did similar things with Japan. To this day, the USA and these countries have been allies.
It is ok to use this same model for Russia. No matter how difficult, after the removal of Putin, the people will not forget this sort of support.
