I guess it has taken a lifetime to come to terms with it. Even as a child I was intimidated by the power held by Jesus and Santa Claus. Be good or else.

Then there is the shopping pressure. Getting along with family. Weather. Traffic. Sugar everywhere.

Throw in the mixing of germs as gatherings cough all over each other. "It's a Fucking Wonderful Life" ad nauseam. Mr. Magoo Scrooge. Linus' retelling of the Christmas story with cotton mouth.

Although...my tree is fucking brilliant as usual. :)

fart knocker
Originally slang for male homosexual, but the phrase has been used so widely (mainly by second-graders) that it now can mean almost anything.

This thread surprises no one, Kenneth.

Sign me up. Bah humbug!

It's massively stressful and, this year especially, I'm really not up to all the people time.

We've got a close family gathering on the 25th and then, off to the cabin where there's no news, no internet, no visitors.....

The only stress is making sure there's enough food, etc, for the week and a half away.

I have so much envy...

The cabin has an outdoor privy. It will be -20°C sometime during our stay. It's not a big deal to me, but it is to some people. There are no mosquitoes at -20°C.

I hate the holidays too. Working retail for many years didn't help.

This year, my tree came from Dollar Tree. I am making dessert, but I'm not cooking. Much better than the holidays of my youth when I was flooded with gifts I didn't want and sick by breakfast because I had eaten all the cheap chocolate from my stocking. This followed by a boatload of stress as my dad attempted to assemble stuff and my mom cursed because she hated to cook.

We have 3 big holidays a month apart, a fourth a week later, and then some minor BS for half the year.

Edward loves the snow, and he can keep watch for bears whilst I shit.

Hey gang,

I could write a book on why I hate the holidays, but just for brevity, to my wife and to me it's all bullshit.

Not really a big deal. Buy some presents that get shipped directly to their house so no hassle and spend the day getting baked like a Christmas ham and watching tv. It's what Jesus would do.

The sugar everywhere is the good part. Most of the rest is kind of naff tho.

Christmas - the season of shitty decorations, even shittier music, mind-blowingly shitty food, the dawn of shitty weather, and exceptionally shitty viruses. I’m not aware of anything about Christmas that isn’t ridiculously shitty.

I fucking hate Christmas. Would I rather work December 24 and 25 and, for that matter, all of Thanksgiving weekend? You bet your fucking ass I would.

Some of your lives must be pretty miserable, I am sorry.

I have nice decorations and good food. I love Christmas.

Lol, I hear ya. So many people ask if they can visit my cabin in winter. I'm very congenial and always say yes but mention an outhouse and they quickly change their minds.
Personally I love it there in the winter.
Have to admit, I use a pee bucket in the middle of the night that I empty in the morning when it's really cold.
