I’ve never written a “mind control” kind of story before, but this idea came to me a while back, and I like it. The set-up is that a woman used to be an assistant for a hypnotist, the sort of “beautiful assistant” that magicians tend to have in order to help distract/entertain/titillate the crowd. Maybe it was an “adult” hypnotism act, so things got a little risque. Anyways, she always wore the same costume for the act, something the Zatanna outfit posted above.
Now, it’s a while after she left the job, maybe a year or two, and she’s wearing the costume again for the first time since she quit. Either it’s Halloween, or she’s going to a costume party, or maybe she’s putting on a casino night for charity. For whichever reason, she puts the outfit back on, and doesn’t realize anything’s amiss. Her male friend, however, notices that she instantly agrees to any requests he make. She’s usually a bit difficult, so the change is immediately apparent.
At some point, they discuss her costume, and she mentions how she used to wear it for a hypnotist’s act during which she’d be hypnotized. After the show, everything would just be a blurry haze, and she’d have to watch the show’s recording in order to figure out what had happened that night on stage. The guy makes the connection and realizes what’s happened: the costume itself has become a hypnotic trigger, and once she puts it on, she’s in a conscious hypnotic state, acting completely normal, but with no inhibitions against suggestions given to her.
So he takes advantage of the situation. How far he goes and what exactly he makes her do will depend on the kind of story I want to write. He’s slightly limited, though, since it’s the costume that puts her into the trance, so once she takes it off, she’ll slip out of it. I might make it where it’s just a certain component of the outfit that’s absolutely necessary, like the top hat, and everything else can come off without a problem.
Another idea to have a twist at the end: the girl was faking it. She was just playing around the first few times, pretending to instantly agree with all of his suggestions because of the hypnotism theme. But then once his suggestions got naughtier and naughtier, she decided to play along for a while, in order to see how far he’d go. Only at the end does she reveal she’s been aware the entire time.
Just a thought. I kind of want to write a quick little short story before I start a longer one, but I’m worried I’d just put off the longer one indefinitely, so I’ll just save this idea for later. What do you guys think?
