The 'How To' Contest Support Thread

well mine ended at 4.77 with something like 55 votes i think, and the other at 4.52 with something like 30 or 35 votes... so, is that one enough for last place?

Last Place Result! TxRad wins the accolade! And a special mention for...

Of those who declared their scores, TxRad has the lowest with How to pick up chicks in 14 departments and is therefore the winner of the Author's Hangout 'How To' contest 2006 Last Place (tm) Award of no money and considerable acclaim.

However, I have decided that this time, since it was the first 'How To' contest that there should be a special award for Lifetime Last Place (tm) Achievement for a 'How To' entry that was written some long time ago and NOT submitted for a contest.

Svenskaflicka's 'How To' submission Kurt Olssen XXX Special currently stands at an amazing rating of 1.74 with 107 votes. It is a shame that the readers/voters didn't recognise that it was intended to be 'Humor and Satire'...

Congratulations to TxRad.

and 'Well Done' Svenskaflicka.

Og de judge.

Bump for TxRad and Svenskaflicka

A 'How To' Bump - just write anything and press 'Submit Reply'.

While the deafening screams of the crowds die down i will give my acceptance speach some thought.....Which I should have done in more depth with my "How To" entry....

First off, I must Thank the Great Ogg for hosting this prestigious award... I will covet it for the year and try and not spend all the prize money in one place... Oh there is none, so that problem is solved....

Secondly, I need to feed, I mean thank my Trolls for the terrific pinhead anal overtime they put in on trashing this masterpiece of rubbish.... Who says that fifteen minutes of writing can't bring you several minutes of fame and glory...

And last but not least.... I'm glad I left my editor out of this... she would kill me.... she might anyway.... ;)

Now i'll turn the floor over to our other winner.... The great Svenskaflicka, who has give us one and all a most breathtaking score for a Last Place Award (tm)...

Holy shit! a 1.47 with 107 votes.... I feel humbled beyond belief.......

The impact of a Last Place (tm) Award

Svenskaflicka's opus mentioned above is gradually improving its rating.

It still rests at the end of the 'How To' so-called Top List and the inertia of 100+ low votes is hard to overcome, but it has moved a few points upward.

Read and marvel at what an AH award holder can produce...

Thank you, Og, for pointing this out to me, I would have missed it otherwise.

Can you believe some of the comments I got on my story? Some morons actually believed this would WORK??? Who helps these people get dressed in the morning?

As for the title, I fear only a handful of Swedes will get the joke:
Kurt Olsson (click for pic) is a comedy character from Gothenburg, who -in his show "Flowers Received"- always have a scene in which he gets creative and makes something out more or less garbage. I was inspired by the time he made a pair of swimming trunks from a plastic bag, and used this idea in my story - hence the title.
Seeing how only a few Swedes would know this, however, it's not so strange that it wasn't as clear a whistle as I thought at first. But the content should have made everyone realize that it was just a joke!

It's kind of amazing to have the lowest rated story - and who in the world did NOT vote a 1 on it??? ;)

Congratulations to Og, Elfie and Jammies. Congrats to all who entered, especially those who were not eligible to win but finished high on the list anyhow. :D

this all reminds me - i have more questions about the sweeps. someone once claimed, all the 1 and 2 votes are swept - but that obviously can't be the case for that story... so are they only swept for competition stories? or only if the story already has above a certain average?

I know with absolute certainty that not all one-bombs get swept. There have been times when I have seen a story take a sudden drastic fall and a quick calculation shows that the most recent vote was a one-bomb. Months later, the score will still reflect that vote. Sometimes a five vote will be swept with no reason given.

If somebody (usually anon) casts a one vote and gives a reasonn I believe those are usually allowed to stand, even when there is a contest on.
