The "How long does it take to post" log

"How long does it take for a story to show up on Lit after it has been submitted?" is known as THE QUESTION.

It's understandable new writers are eager to see their work, and start obsessing about votes, comments and a reality as harsh as FICA on your first paycheck, trolls.

Who am I kidding? With 20 stories or so up, I still eagerly await the posting of a new story. When I submitted one last week, I had only the vaguest idea of what current story approval times were taking.

So, to help new and old writers alike, why don't we each make a post here when we submit a story, then come back and edit it when the story appears?

I'll go first.

I'll settle for sloppy seconds :) and add three items that may, or may not, be worth noting..

THE KISS ch 02, Sunday in the Park
(romance, two-pages, cut-and-paste)
Submitted 8/3/07

SOTM Ch. 04
Submitted July 28 - Posted Aug. 03
Three pages, upload plain .txt file with html tags inserted into the text manually.

Also had two edits in the queue submitted the same day, posted today as well - title and text edit. Of course, they changed my title edit and I'm going to have to change it again. I just wanted numbers without "Pt." or "Ch." designations, and the powers that be added "Ch." I guess I'll have to go with "Pt." as the series is self-contained stories that don't necessarily follow directly on each other's heels.

I had two more edits in the queue the next day under my pen name, so we'll see if those edits post tomorrow. I'd say that will lock it in to 6 days for the time being.

My submissions have always been posted in either six, seven, or eight days.

I've also had the "chapter" designation added against my wishes, when I really wanted a plain number, as the stories were self contained "sequels" and not sections of a single story. Oh well.

I submitted one via txt file on Sunday (the 29th for those of you keeping score at home) and it's not posted yet.

Here's hoping for tonight.

I've been surprised by a 5 day turnaround a couple of times. I never fails that those quick turnarounds always post on Sunday ( or "dead day" as I like to call it )

I had six edited chapters all go through the queue in two days once ( non-contest stories )

I think you hit something there....some categories seem to go through faster, and I believe it's related to how many of those stories there aren't in Lit's queue at any given time.

How To and Essay stuff should just fly through.

I've got two edits in the queue since July 31 (my time). Not out yet.

new story

One edit yesterday, plus a new story today.

Out There and Again
Sci-Fi and Fantasy
submitted: Aug 4

I hope it posts soon...

My edits that went in on the 29th haven't posted yet, but only a handful of new stories have posted so far today. I'd imagine I'll see those edits clear in the expected six days later on.

Two things that I posted on the 16th and 18th of July posted on the 27th and 28th, 12 and 11 days respectively.

Thanks for starting this thread! I've thought about doing this for a while, but since I have been so inspired to write anything lately...

Anyway, as soon as I get off my lazy bum, I'll post back.

I submitted a story (cut and paste) on Monday, and whereas yesterday it had four views, this morning (Friday) it has five. I've never seen more than four before. Does this mean the editors are passing it around amongst themselves laughing at it?

If they are, they're doing it with my first poem too. It had 4 reads yesterday and 5 today.

I have learned to accept that if I post each part individually it will take 6 days after each, but if I submit several (like my first trio) they will post them on different dates relatively close to each other (even if that means giving me a future date on one).

seven

I have a yet to be published story with seven.

And no, it is not me rereading it.

My poem's up. Not sure exactly when it went up. Sometime yesterday.

For some reason, my Laresa stories always averaged 5-10 views before they posted.

My morning surprise:

SOTM Ch. 05 Submitted ( upload plain text with html for italics manually inserted ) on 08/11 - Posted 08-15.

The Coming Together account has had a submission pending since December 2005.

I think maybe its time to PM Laurel. She won't think you are being pushy. :)

I did, at first. Several times. Never rec'd a reply. Gave up.

I've got a story pending and I've just about given up on it ever being put up on here - first it came back with spelling errors - I put it through two spelling programmes and the only error I could find was that I'd used an English spelling and not American for a word, then it came back again with punctuation mistakes - I found one full stop outside the "" marks, submitted it again and, surprise, surprise, it came back still with message that standard speech has to be inside the "" "" marks. I honestly can't find out what's wrong with it still.

I've checked stories on here and some are badly edited - I'm beginning to think its the actual story itself - so far it has 9 views - I just wish however is reading it could get a little more specific in what errors have to be corrected.

I thought it was a good story 3 weeks ago when I first submitted it, now I'm getting sick of reading it and the second part has been canned.
