Rory:

It had been a long time since anyone had come to visit the old house. Nearly 20 years, and the darkness, the sadness of loneliness slowly seeped into the floor boards, into the very walls. It had always been a somberly decorated home, as the owner was a somber, bitter old woman... But now, she was gone, and the property was to be delt with. In the silence of those empty rooms, Rory heard the men who had invaded this quiet home talking of a daughter, how the house was to go to her, and if she didn't want it, it was to be auctioned off... The daughter was to arive on this particular night, Rory couldn't wait.

Samantha

Samantha pulled up to the dark house. She growled in frustration and muttered a few explicit words. After dragging ass for as long as she could, she stepped out of her small car. She looked around, trying to see where the guy she was meeting was. She saw no one, so she approached the front door. As she stepped through the door, she paused, and shook her head free of the demons that plagued her from the day she first left the house, many years ago, when she was young. She glanced around the foyer, and looked upon the back of the guy who was to help auction it off. Softly, she spoke.

"Excuse me, but I believe we have an appointment?"

Maggie

The death of her mother had changed little in her life. They had not spoken in years. Her mothers anger had spilled over onto her like a spring flood that never ended. She had done her duty to her mother and given her a proper burial. She thought that had put an end to her connection to the town, home, and people she had grown up with until she learned her mother had left her the house.

The damn house. She hated it. Her mother had kept in dark and gloomy, and avoided letting daylight into her haunted dungeon of a home. There was a time that Maggie had become convinced her mother in league with the devil, or at least insane. At 17 she had left home and not looked back.

Now at 35 she was returning. Her life had been one spent in constant motion. Jobs and lovers had been many. Maggie did not like rules and she spent the past 18 years proving that to anyone who might be watching. She had traveled the world in search of something. Meaning perhaps, perhaps more. Now she was returning to that house and what she felt now was defeat. She had run so hard and so fast only to return to her beginnings.

She walked down the last block toward the old house. It was drizzling and her stylish rain coat was doing its job well. That morning as she dressed she had decided to defy her mother one last time. Under the coat she wore only a short blue skirt and a sheer blouse. Her mother had told her,"only whores didn't wear underwear. Today, Maggie would show her mother that she did not care about what she thought. Her plan was to go to the house and do what she had to do. She would do it dressed as the whore her mother always thought she was. Only the raincoat prevented others from drawing the same conclusion.

Ned:

Whirling about, seeming rather jumpy as Samantha spoke to him, Ned placed a hand to his chest. "Ohf, God, you startled me. You are...?" He fumbled in a pocket and pulled out a photo, his brow furrowing as he looked up at Samantha then back to the photo. "Nnnot Maggie..." He said curiously. Before she could say anything, he perked up. "Oh, you must be M'dame Agnes's later daughter? Come in, we are still waiting for Maggie..." He hustled her into the living room. It was large, large and darkly lit, a fire crackled, giving sparce heat, nowhere near enough to warm the room. He sat across from Samantha for a moment, fidgeting with his hands. He looked up at her for a moment, then stood up, as though something had stuck him in the rear. "Oh, woah! ...I forgot to offer you some tea miss..." And without another word he vanished into another room, obviously the kitchen. He leaned against the sink for a moment, he didn't like it here, and the sooner he got this all over and done with, the better. He wiped at his brow with a soft white hankerchief then looked up and out the kitchen window. There was a woman in a rain coat walking up the cobble stone path to the door. He rushed to open the door for her and greet her, forgetting again about the tea.

Sasha:

She had been standing there the whole time, in the darkness of the corner closest to the main stairs. Her bright blue eyes looking out from benieth her unkept blonde hair. She watched the man and woman enter, and then the man vanish, and just remained silent. A soft bite was given to her lower lip as her eyes peared into the woman.

Maggie

The door opened even before she knocked. The rush of stale air his her nostrils even before the nervous looking man who introduced himself as Ned opened the spoke.

"Hello, is my sister here yet?" she asked in her most business like voice.

She barely heard his answer as she looked past him to the formal staircase that lay beyond the door. She thought back to the time she had tried to sneak her first boyfriend down those stairs one night after they had had sex. At 15 neither of them really had known very much about sex but as she thought about it now she remembered how free she hand been then and how good she had felt.

That ended when mother had caught them. She immediately guessed what had happend and had punished Maggie severely.

She stepped into the house and asked, "what did you say about my sister."

Rory:

Whisping up next to Sasha, Rory looked out toward the woman who sat on the couch. "Our family is returning you know..." Rory hissed in a calm voice, reaching out, she slid her ghostly finger tips along Sasha's arm, catching her eyes as she turned to face her, Rory smiled. "Maybe our secret will be learned... Finally..." Rory let loose of Sasha then, and turned away.

Sasha:

A smile crept across those pale lips before she sank deeper into the darkness of the corner. She turned towards Rory and nodded as she let out a small shiver from the soft touch. "Now is not the time though" she uttered softly. "Lets wait..."

Ned:

rushing around, Ned prepared some tea, and brought it out to the two sisters, the fine china cups clacking together as he walked out to the two at a somewhat brisk pace. He sat it down, looked up at Maggie. "Your sister... Ah..." He furrowed his brow again, trying to remember what he had said about Maggies sister. "Oh! You're sister arived only a few minutes ago..." He repeated with a slight smile. He went over to a lone chair, just off to the side and sat, crossing his legs, he leaned forward, then back, felt uncomfortable that way, so leaned forward again and placed his hands on his knees. "Shall we start?" He asked, his words sped with nervousness.

Maggie

I chill crept over Maggie as she waited for Ned to respond to her. It was not an unfamilar chill. This house had always been cold not matter the season. He mind was washed in memories, and questions. She wanted to leave this place. Something inside her told her to run, and she glanced back out the door. She felt a chill touch her check as if to turn her attention back toward the interior. She had felt that chill before many years before as a child and had since written it off as a childish fantasy. She was no child now, and there was no explaining it.

Rory:

Flashing a soft longing smile back to Sasha, Rory followed her sister back into the darkness. "No, tonight... We must start... We can't lose them again..." Rory sighed before she dissapeared.

Sasha:

She lingered for a moment, watching Maggie with a canted head before she too seened to vanish into the darkness of the house.

Ned:

"The estate belongs equally to both of you, Maggie, Samantha... Now you can sell it if you wish... But the histor..." Ned stopped in the middle of his words, looking up at Maggie. "Are, are you alright Miss?" He asked nervously as he saw her shiver ever so slightly.

Maggie

Maggie followed the nervous man into the drawing room and took her seat next to Samantha. Samantha eyed her coldly and nodded. Maggie nodded back.

Ned said,"shall we get started."

Nearly simultaniously the sisters answered,"yes."

Maggie's mind once more drifted. The touch she had felt was real enough. There had been times in her youth when he mothers near madness had driven her to the darkest corners of the house and often she had felt peace in them. Oddly, she had never felt alone. It was as though there were people in those places looking after her. She almost wished now she could escape into one of those dark corners now.

Maggie

As Ned spoke she felt the chill overcome her again. It was more personal this time. As if a hand had somehow gone under her raincoat and carressed her arm.

"Are you alright miss," she heard Ned ask.

"Yes yes. Its cold in here is all. Continue."

Ned:

When Maggie asked him to continue, he cleared his throat nervously. "Ah, well, yes... The house belongs to both of you equally, and as... As I was saying, you could sell if you wish, but considering the history of the estate... It will be an extremely hard sell I am afraid... The easiest, most efficient way to get rid of the house would be in the auction being conducted next month... So... Ah, what would you two like to do?" Ned asked with a forced smile.

Samantha seemed to hesitate with her answer. "I think the faster we can get this over with the better off for all concerned," Maggie said in her most business like tone.

Again she felt the chill. This time on her back. Like two cold hand running up her back on either side of her back. Then she heard it. Faint but clean. The voice of a young woman saying, "don't leave us again."

"Who was that," she nearly shouted. "What the hell is going on?"

Rory:

Slipping silently through the attic where she'd dies, Rory looked around for Sasha. It was a routine they had played for nearly fifty full years in the cold and somber darkness. "Sasha, where are you hiding?" She asked her sister, lifting the lid of a costume chest she peired in with a giggle. "Sasha, I am going to find you..." She teased as she rushed over to an old doll house and peeked over the top. With a small frustrated huff, Rory plopped down, and leaned against the doll house, looking directly across from her to a stand alone mirror, Sasha's feet peeking out from underneith it, she laughed sharply and pointed. "Hah! I found you!" She called out and hopped to her feet, rushing over to the mirror.

Ned:

Ned had been nodding, fumbling through his paper work, looking for the nesicary forms. He nearly jumped out of his seat when Maggie suddenly spoke loudly. "Gah! Wha, what?" He asked back, the papers he'd been holding were about to slip from his lap, in a jumble. He packed them all together and stood, looking about the room, seeming a little frightened.

Sasha:

She giggled madly and ran from behind the mirror and towards the doll house. Her large smile never leaving her lips as she giggled happely in a trot to a better hideing spot.

Rory:

Catching Sasha, Rory's fit of giggles just as mad as her own. They fell to the floor together, Rory hugging her arms around Sasha's body. "I CAUGHT you!" Rory trilled as she squeezed her sister tightly, then loosened her hold. They sat up, Rory still hugging Sasha to her, resting her chin on Sasha's shoulder.

Sasha:

Once the giggeling subsidded a smile remained on her lips as she hugged on to her sister as they both colopassed to the floor. Her eyes closed for a moment, before a yawn escaped her and her cheek rested upon her sister's head.

Maggie

She sat impatiently waiting for some sign of life to come from her sister or Ned. She liked it better when people spoke. Her mind raced in the silences, back to her youth, back to those moments when her mothers madness overwealmed them all.

She thought about how as a little girl she had had imaginary playmates. They seemed so real to her then. She remembered the day she had mentioned this to her mother and how her mother had reacted with screams that she could to this day conjure in her head. As she sat waiting for the silence to break she heard her mothers voice shreik in her head, " no! You stay away from them. They are bad."

She shifted her wieght and planted her feet. She sat now on the edge or her seat. Her knucles whitened as she gripped the arms. "Lets get on with this," she commanded.

Rory:

Slowly Rory's hands drifted upward and caressed her sisters breasts, she knew it was wrong, but she didn't care. "Sasha..." She whispered in her sisters ear as though to sooth her, to keep her still, so she could touch and feel... She just... Just wanted to know... Know what it was about... "Sasha... What do you feel?" She asked innocently.

Ned:

"uhm... Its getting dark out..." Ned said, shakily, his nervousness growing. "I think I should go for the night..." He stood and made for the door imediatly. "I will be back in the morning... Things will be settled then." He was not listening to anything other than his own words as he rushed out the front door, making his way to his car then and finally starting his engine, he seemed a man posessed as he pulled out of the drive. His eyes were wide with fear... Then he was gone...
