Finally found something I"ve been looking for for a while- I'll share it here.

When I first read "The Hobbit" the cover art was drawn by JRR himself (which I thought was pretty cool.:)

Hobbit has been my nickname more than once:) Hobbit or Halfling anyway.

I thought it was call the Shir?

I've always loved his illustrations. Almost an Art Nouveau feel to some of them.

I have never seen the original illustrations - but I love Art Nouveau and Deco - they merge I think!!

Actually, the copy I have is ancient and I just took a look in it and it says Illustrated by the Author. Now, I knew the stuff inside was drawn by him, but wasn't sure about the coverart. It doesn't state, just says illustrations.

I most like his work on the maps for his books. They're very nice.

Oh I can see a Tokien aura...

seriously thats really cool!

I've always loved the one of Bilbo riding his barrel on the river. The Elven-King's gate is wonderful as well. Just beautiful art.

I always loved Beorn. It was only when I got older that I realized why - or precisely how - I found him so fascinating ;)
