Zahra was suprised by the Sultan's announcement. She hadn't expected to dance! But she saw the Egyptian Diplomat smile and nodding, before going over to the musicians in order to select the music.
She heard the beat and reluctantly stood and moved to an open area. She closed her eyes, letting her body feel the beat. Her hips started to undulate slowly...then faster and more confidently as she adjusted to the music. She gracefully spun her body, moving her hips, legs, and arms as she let the beat of the music guide her through the traditional belly dancing of Egypt. The stones and metal of her decorative clothing jingled and clinked as she twisted to the music, adding to the atmosphere.
Then the beat of the music became faster and faster, and Zahra took on the challenge. She moved faster, her whole body twisting gracefully and spinning. Then suddenly it was over, the beat stopped and Zahra struck an elegant pose upon the floor in perfect timing with the beat. Her chest rose and fell as her breath was shallow, but she could not hide the smile upon her face at such a complete execution of the dance she had been taught as a child.
