The Jackal's Den
The three men left the palace grounds with nary a look behind them. Laughter and bravado were shared among them at the deed they had just done to the Sultan among his guests. They knew that was a perfect situation to be brazen since the time honored tradition kept them safe, even in the house of an enemy.
"Did you see how angry the Mighty Jalal was?"
"I will never forget!"
"The look of shock on the face of everyone was worth it alone, though I am looking forward to the rest of the jewels promised."
"Aye, we will have enough to live like kings, for a few weeks anyway. Wine women and song!"
"Come, we're to meet up with the others. They are waiting."
"I bet they are already drunk. No matter, I will catch up with them quick enough."
Rehashing the gory details kept them amused, laughing and sharing slaps on the back as they weave through the bustle in the narrow streets. Vendors holding and showing their wares, Others hawking what they had; cloth, baubles, food, weapons, drugs or women.
They ducked into a side alley then left the drone outside when they entered a tavern. Two others were hard at drinking as the three took to the stools around the table.
"Well? are you going to tell us what happened? By the looks on your faces I would say the gift was well received. The Sultan would be greatly pleased upon hearing this."
"Aye, I am to leave at dawn to be back at his palace by nightfall to give word to him about the delivery. I will have the rest of our promised gems then."
"Then let us celebrate while we can tonight! Old man! Another bottle over here!"
"Did you see or hear of his daughter the Seer while there?"
"Do not be foolish, Jalal wouldn't have had a new slave at the ceremony. Besides, I don't think he even knows what he has."
Laughter rang out among them.
"How I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he comes to find out that not only does he have Sultan Mustafa's daughter but a Seer at the same time."
"That isn't our problem. He'll send someone to return his daughter to him. Our problem is drinking all of this wine then getting what is due us as promised by the Sultan."
