Weird...17 of the top 50 are in California. Yet...only one from Florida...two from Texas. Then we have the States everyone agrees are the butthole...they don't even get a city in the ranking until after 150. I wonder...why is there so much happiness in a state so criticized by Republicans?

CA income taxes are insane. Don’t miss them one bit. Marginal income tax rates hit 13.2%, capital gains are taxed as ordinary income. Thanks to Prop 13, property tax RATES are low (1% with max annual increase capped at 2%) but because of a property valuations, actual property taxes PAID are extreme, especially for people who have owned their property for less than 10 years or so. I love the SALT cap that was part of the TCJA. Don’t have to subsidize taxpayers in CA and other high tax states who allow their politicians to rape them.

For those of us who have lived and worked in the Bay Area for many years, it’s hard at all to understand why a quarter million people have left SF and many more have left other parts of the state. Lol

One big concern is the schools. The public schools suck in most parts of the state. Got grandkids there. The governor has the right idea. He sends his kids to private schools. Taxes are a bitch out there and homeless people live and shit on sidewalks.

CA is an abortion haven, welfare programs are abundant, and LGBT people are a protected class. That’s all fine but my kid and hub are straight, married, financially responsible, and are not into terminating pregnancies. They are preparing to bail soon. One set of kids and grandkids already made the smart move. I’m hanging on to the CA house because of the golden handcuffs federal and state tax codes impose. Better to let next of kin inherit and sell tax free.
