Interesting article today about the precipitous decline in female gynecologists lately.

What say you, ladies? Anonymous poll to follow.

The misogamist in me says: 'pfffft..coz thats 'mans work'

I have seen male and female ones over the years, no difference, good and not so good in both sexes.

Recently found a female obgyn who I absolutely love. I've seen men, but it never really worked.

I do not see a gyno - in my health network they are considered a "specialist" and therefore I have to pay extra. My family doctor does all that. I'm not planning on birthing no babies ever, ever again and I have no health issues so the super young and awkwardly attractive male family doctor it is.

Edited to add: And I am female - or at least my alt is.

I've never really thought about the sex of my doctor. I was in need of help and the person that showed up was there to fix me. My primary care doctor is a woman but the three surgeries I had were male. None of those were by my choice. I had to go with people my plan paid for.

When I was in high school I thought about higher education to become a Pussy Mechanic.
Then I started working on diesels and ac drives.

Well this may be one of the very rare instances where Lit mirrors "real life". The article said 50% of women see female gynecologists, 25% see male gynecologists and 25% eschew seeing any gynecologist, which is roughly the case here.

Not as many women doctors in gynecology anymore, so that number will likely change over the next 10-20 years. Thanks Obama! ;)

The last male gynecologist I saw back in the 70's was an ultra conservative who should never gone into women's healthcare. He said something so weird and unscientific that from then on I decided never to have a male gynecologist. I don't remember exactly what he said but it had to do with masturbation reeking havoc on women being able to reproduce. I just went to him for the usual check up, did not bring up masturbation, and wasn't thinking of reproducing at the time. The friend who referred me to him stopped going to him as well for his off the wall statements.

In fairness to you old OB/GYN, that bit of "science" was taught in Texas medical schools until 2005.

Also, if you don't stop doing that you'll go blind! Look at what happened to Amicus!

I'm comfortable with my male gynecologist. He knows his stuff. If I changed docs for some reason, I'd seriously look for a woman though, unless a good friend could recommend another non-douche dude doc.

Does he do a mammogram on your third nipple?

Amicus recently passed to the other side, so I'm not going to say anything about him.

Your thread reminded me again about the differences of the sexes on Lit. I wondered how many female proctologists there were, and wondered why women aren't posting about that. I can only assume women's reproductive health is fascinating to men from the left and right. :)

I haven't really found any differences in overall bedside manner in the gender of the doctors. The male ob/gyn who delivered my daughter and saw me through a very very difficult pregnancy was my favorite.
