The Great Forest

Athena glanced once again at the new arrival "yes please be kind and tell us who you are sir?"

A greeting

OOC: I'm glad I got as understanding a person as you for my first mistakes here, Morgoth. I'll try to learn fast.

IC: The portly man smiled brightly and apologetically. "Oh, do forgive me, but this saddle is so dreadful!" He began to dismount his tiny steed, but unfortunately, his foot caught in his stirrup as he attempted a heroic leap from his saddle. The result was a mouthful of sticks and dirt, along with wounded pride.

He looked up at them both with a mournful expression. "Oh, my name is Rotolio, not that you care now, I daresay. After meeting in this way, you may well have no regard for me, and rightly so!" he wailed. His tome lay open in the dirt, and he roughly grabbed it and stood, dusting himself off.

The eagle watched the three defeat the orcs rather soundly. It had stood silent throughout the battle, but once completed, any obligation to discover the fate of these three had passed. It was enough to know they had slain this particular band of orcs, and the location in which it occurred. Spreading his wings to catch the wind, the eagle called Miral took flight to the North. There would someone there who would wish to know about these people.

Athena frowned slightly as she approached the new comer. "Are you alright?" she asked. "Oh, my name is Rotolio, not that you care now, I daresay. After meeting in this way, you may well have no regard for me, and rightly so!" he wailed. She laughed softly "Oh don't be silly everyone is clumsy at times you needn't act so distressed. I am Athena and I am pleased to meet you Rotolio"

"Rotolio? Well, I greet you. I am Infar, and as you can see, I am a human warrior. Although we might want to move. The spies of the King the People of Hell are everywhere", said Infar, his face turning from a bright smile into a daek and foreboding frown at the mention of Morgoth, the Darkest Anuir.

OOC: I have came to the conclusion that I ought to have used a 'character name' other than my 'UserName' from the outset. My character is now called Alcina. She will be involved again soon.

Alcina was much fatigued by her loss of blood. Though the arrows which had pierced her were unpoisoned, the foul creatures which fired them had nonetheless tainted them with their evil touch. This and her exertions caused Alcina to collapse at the base of a great oak. She lay between its mighty roots as best she could, hiding herself under a blanket of leaves as she slowly fell into unconsciousness.

Lying there on the forest floor, Alcina was visited by strange dreams in her troublesome and enforced slumber. She saw many of her kind passing and called out to them, but in her dream they could not see her ... and she ran among them wildly beckoning for help, but their eyes did not see her, and Alcina's calls vanished into nothingness. Now the dream changed and she saw a strange creature - half man and half donkey - reading from a book in a tongue which seemed familiar, but which she could not discern. Lightning struck and the dream shimmered once more. Now she saw two swords flashing through the air. One spoke with an Elven tongue to her, calling her name. The other sword was held by the hand of a Man and spoke to her also; not calling her name this time, but greeting her in a friendly manner. And always in the dream an eagle soaring high overhead. Suddenly arrows shot through the air at the eagle, and she called out, trying to give warning ... but it was a dream ... a dream ... only ... a ... dream ...

Silence filled her mind once more ...

Rotolio

"Oh, how perfectly dreadful. The Peopl of Hell? Is there to be no peace in these lands for all time? Why can't everyone just learn to live within their means? Bah!" Rotolio snorted huffily, sending a few twigs flying from his beard.
"Well, not to worry. My powers of sorcery shall keep evil at bay from us . . ." he hesitated. "If they work when I want them to, that is." He gestured with a sweeping bow. "I offer my allegiance for the time being, my colleagues! Let us be off, as you say, most honorable Infar."

Athena found herself smiling at Rotolio. "Well friend we will hope that your magic does work then. If you two don't mind me asking but what business do you have within this forest?"

Rotolio

The bumbling man glanced at Infar, then cleard his throat.
"Well, as you know, there are many potent herbs and sprigs about that aid a magician, ah, yes, mmm. I merely thought that my fair steed-"he kicked at the donkey, who brayed and moved a few steps-"and I might find some plant more favorable to the workings of my craft. In particular, I seek a root for a mighty spell." Rotolio hesitated, as if he were to speak more, then shut his mouth on his next words.

Athena noticed his hesitation but decided to ignore it. "What might this root be called? I may be able to help you find it" she glanced at Infar "What about you?"

"I know many roots. Tell me the name. I'll probably fight it. But chances are no matter how mighty it is, it probably won't stop Gothmog, Lord of Balrogs. I've crossed swords with him once before, and barely escaped that meeting", shuddered Infar.

Rotolio

The bumbler glanced around nervously and shook his head. "I'm, eh, sorry, eh, I must find that root on my own." He clamped down, knowinbg his tory did not hold, but after all, owing nothing to these strangers, now aquaintances.

Athena noticed the hesitation to say anything about their reasons for being in the forest. She curiously wondered why they were so cautious. She shrugged deciding it was none of her business. She then thought of something "Those Orcs weren't just around for hunting.. they were after something, any idea what it was?"

"They've got the standard of Bar-a-Dur", said Infar, pointing out the flaming eye standard. "It's probably another patrol looking for the One Ring", he explained.

"You don't know? The Ruling Ring? The most powerful of the ancient Rings of Power? Sauron himself forged it in Mount Doom. he put a good portion of his power in it, and if ever finds it, will easily regain the lost and hidden rings. Not only, but he will become unkillable to all but the Maia and Vala and his ancient Master, Morgoth the Dark Enemy, the Unholy", explained Arthron gravely.

Athena's frown deepened. "Well then we have to stop him, we can't let anyone really get ahold of that much power"

"But that's the thing. He himself is a Maia, and was once the highest general of Morgoth. He has been killed 4 times or so, but comes back with a much deadlier body every time", sighed Arthron.
