The government shuts down. Another spectacular MAGA failure.

More flight delays caused by air traffic controller shortages.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported staffing issues at airports in Nashville, Boston, Dallas, Chicago and Philadelphia, and at its air traffic control centers in Atlanta, Houston and the Dallas-Fort Worth area. The agency temporarily slowed takeoffs of planes headed to the first three cities.

Expect lots more “sick days” taken by federal employees who aren’t being paid.

I've never felt any effect from a shutdown, nor have most people. What they're erally afraid of is that if this goes on for a while, we might realize that we can live perfectly fine with less government.

When it’s a rainy night in Georgia it can seem like it’s raining all over the world. Childlike thinking here.

You obviously have never worked for the government. While this is a good time to visualize what government is like with the non-essential sidelined it is not near as simple as you think.
Before this shutdown government employees are required to report to work in the office. Government contractors are still working from home. The lines of 'essential' and 'non-essential' have been blurred quite a while.
All of these employees, contractors and essential, non-essential are not getting paid after October 1st. In previous shutdowns I worked through as essential all pay was funded once the shutdown was over. All employees, contractors and essential, non-essential got paid. Only they had to sustain while pay checks were not steady. The way this law is written is discretionary and also blurs the law regarding right to work and how a government employee is terminated. Discretionary in that after the shutdown how back pay is funded is in the budget that restarts funding. Not privy to the actual law I am not sure how much influence the President has on the restart or back pay. The media and the idiots here would have you believe it is entirely up to the President. Nor has the budget Congress passed available to anyone but the Senate. Speculation is rampant.
For the entities like DHS which includes a mass number of .gov 3 letter agencies that were not included in DOGE, this seems like a good time to have a look at the non-essential and contractors. However, this will not happen. 1 DOGE is no more. 2 All these entities like DHS and all their 3 letter fiefdoms have not evaluated their budget. They continue to operate on the spend it or lose it formula that DOGE was designed to root out.
I am truly disappointed these evaluations are not occurring. The lazy essential 'workers' continue to enjoy their entitled status while the essential that actually do the work are working. While there are several contractors that are essential and for some reason working from home at the very least these positions should be evaluated.
Since none of this evaluation is taking place I believe that the time earned for the non-essential and contractors essential and not should not be paid. Most .gov contracts are paid upfront. So contractors on those type contracts are working as well. It is sad during every shutdown. I noticed all of the management and direction look the other way or protect their budget before they looked out for the taxpayer. We need DOGE at this point more than ever. OMB/Vought is only cutting waste. DOGE was able to get into the minutia and evaluate where the money went.
I hope the President while he is in control during a shutdown takes the time to be fiscal. He is doing great on law, order and boarder, but the financial benefits will not be visible in the economy in other than the market until next year. Seeing a big financial win scaling down government bloat as the opportunity is handed to him on a silver platter would be awesome. Schumer is unwilling to make decisions like this because he is frail and only there for the graft, which is why he is providing this opportunity.

The MAGAts have proven once again that they do not know how to govern. Chaos and conflict now dominate our society.

Everything is a fucking crisis under the Reign of the Pig.

Wow! Reign of the Trump you labeled pig has proposed and installed the best chance at piece between muslims, radicals, Christians and Jews ever.
Maybe I will feel safe to visit the birthplace of philosophy after all.
I hope we don't have to bring Putin to his knees to get him to talk.

What a fool (a MAGAt) believes…

We. Told. Them. So.

You're right, I haven't. But my late wife worked most of ehr career for contractors -- "Beltway bandits" -- mostly on NASA contracts. As I said, I've never felt any effect from a shutdown, nor have most people.

Frankly, DHS should be abolished.
While there are several contractors that are essential and for some reason working from home at the very least these positions should be evaluated.
All positions should be evaluated. We have way too many government employees and way too much government. (And it costs way too much also.)
Most .gov contracts are paid upfront. So contractors on those type contracts are working as well.
That's my understanding as well. And again, let's evaluate all positions working for the government.

I'd love that. I'm not holding my breath. Government never shrinks; it metastasizes. Hopefully, the shutdown can be an instrument to begin some shrinkage.

This paycheck the essential will feel the shut down. My “she” is like me and has a buffer in the bank for times like These.
Agree DHS should be shrunk back to its original purpose, which was just paper to allow the purchase of larger contracts at a discount and to act as a hub for communication between silos. Nepolitano obamas DHS turned it into an authoritarian organization that is completely out of control.
They did not DOGE DHS.
Evaluating positions is needed. Evaluating performance in the duplicitous positions is needed even more. The stereotypical “government workers” are the ones I wanted to eliminate. There were many do nothings when I was there.
NSAID was a nice start. Only problem there was the savings were spent on legal battles by democrats who want to continue living off the bloat.
