Republicans control everything in DC at the moment; it's their responsibility to get the votes together (and it wouldn't even be that hard to do if they weren't so hardline).

If republicans controlled everything in DC the continuing resolution would have been passed.

The CR that the House passed simply continued the Biden funding levels for about a month or so to buy time to negotiate -- funding levels every Democrat voted for when they were first adopted. IOW, it would just continue everything as is temporarily while the partis work out a new budget.

The Democrats weren't having that, and they demanded additional spending for their pet constituencies. While the Republicans have a majority in the Senate, they do not have enough votes to break a filibuster without Democrats signing on. So the clean CR stalls in the Senate and we got a shutdown, which so far doesn't seem to be affecting the lives of 99% of us.
