The government shuts down. Another spectacular MAGA failure.

“The RIFs have begun,” White House Budget Director Russell Vought posted on social media Friday, referring to reductions in force, the federal government’s term for layoffs.

Thousands of people will be laid off as a result of the shutdown, according to a senior White House official. The scope of the cuts was not immediately clear.

Department of Health and Human Services employees were among those affected, according to HHS spokesperson Andrew Nixon.

A spokesman for the Health and Human Services Department, in a statement to CNBC, said, “HHS employees across multiple divisions have received reduction-in-force notices as a direct consequence of the Democrat-led government shutdown.”

“HHS under the Biden administration became a bloated bureaucracy, growing its budget by 38% and its workforce by 17%,” department spokesman Andrew Nixon said.

“All HHS employees receiving reduction-in-force notices were designated non-essential by their respective divisions. HHS continues to close wasteful and duplicative entities, including those that are at odds with the Trump administration’s Make America Healthy Again agenda,” Nixon said.

A number of Treasury Department employees also have received RIF notices.

This is a beginning. I hate to see people lose their jobs, but we have way too much government spending way too much money to do way too much. RIF is unfortunately a necessary beginning.

The real reason a shutdown bothers them is that we might learn to live without so much Big Government. That threatens their power.

We have a LOT more government employees than we need.
That would be your opinion.

The current administration has shrunk government already by a huge amount.

workers are furloughed typically during shutdowns.....by law.

There will be a ton of lawsuits after the firings.

That's the view of millions of Americans. We have too many people working for the government at too high a cost doing too many things they shouldn't be doing. We need to start abolishing agencies, departments, bureaus, commissions, etc.

No we don't

That's your opinion. But the government has gotten itself into too many things at too high a cost with too many people. Sorry the idea of limited government and preserving liberty bothers you.

trump got his covid booster shot along with a flu shot on Friday
I guess he trusts it more than the touted benefits of ivermectin and hydroxychloriquine

News of Trump’s booster came hours before his “grim reaper,” White House budget director Russell Vought, gutted the CDC with layoffs, putting dozens of disease scientists out of a job.

“Trump got a Covid booster from his doctor and then fired a dozens of doctors and scientists who were working to keep the rest of us healthy and alive,” posted Pod Save America host Jon Favreau.

Six former U.S. surgeons general wrote in a Washington Post editorial this week that Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is putting lives at risk — including those of his own staff at the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Kennedy’s comments that the CDC staff is corrupt and his spread of conspiracy theories “contribute to the targeting of the very staff he is charged with protecting,” they wrote. “As former commanding officers of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, we know that caring for your people is the sacred duty of a leader.”

There are many people who reported that they had success using hydroxychloroquine and/or ivermectin. Like everything else, they don't work for everyone. But tehy apparently do work for some people.

The purpose of government is "to provide a tolerable degree of order so that liberty may flourish," as Russell Kirk put it. It has gone well beyond that, and that undermines liberty and order.
Neat.

Liberty is obviously military troops on every corner....huzzah!

For government to function properly
Function properly at what? Our government is simply doing too many things at too great a cost.
Doing things in service to the people rather than profit.
You seem to think those are opposing things. They are not. As Adam Smith put it, “It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest."

And even if they were opposing functions, picking winners and losers is not a proper government function, nor is it moral, ethical, or effective. A rising tide lifts all boats; all the government can do is sink them.

Yes, you mentioned your opinion.

Lol
Companies do not profit from healthcare.

They profit from sickness and disease.
They profit from bad air quality.
They profit from needing to repair poorly constructed buildings.

Of course 👍

Like a black Democrat city councilwoman from Michigan, for one. She was roundly attacked for taking the stuff, but her husband got it for her after other treatments had failed. She got cured. She was all on the TV news at the time; I saw her interviewed. Until the "objective" media decided her story was inconvenient. Then they attacked her and then ignored her.

One of many examples.

Teh biggest beneficiary of those things is the government itself. They become good excuses to grab more power. The most efficient solutions are market solutions.

Your cult measures "compassion" by how many people you're "helping." When people no longer need your help, that undermines your efforts. That's why all your programs are structured in such a way as to "give" people just enough to maintain them in dependency.

"Karen" Whitsett is a closet MAGAt in Democrat clothing…

Basically, a grifter preying on the racist MAGAts looking for their "one black friend"…

I’m also calling her a liar, and I give zero fucks if she labels herself a Democrat.

👎

Hope that ^ helps.

the problem is that gullible people who took ivermectin/hydroxy while sick and who then recovered swore blind it was because of the products (no science-based evidence) rather than the disease simply running its course in their bodies and natural recovery. It was a very ignorant belief and there are no reports that I've seen on the numbers of true-believers who took it and died anyway.

The disease affected people in so many different ways, with some feeling barely sick whilst others were, literally, at death's door. Those who recovered, would have recovered anyway, but it made the ignorant happier that they felt they had some control over its outcome by using horse-wormer.
