No way should America permit hospital visitation rights for gay people in decade-old permanently-committed relationships. That would destroy the sanctity of hetero marriages.

Also the pro-states' rights Republican party does a complete 180 and wants to Federally overturn gay rights in states that decide to permit them. Hypocrisy is the #1 conservative value in 2012.

Wow! How could they leave out such a vital issue for America's future!

It is pretty vital as far as I'm concerned.

One of those things that is the reason why I couldn't vote for someone who believes this. I might back up many conservative values, but this one has no defense.

Sticking to stuff that has to do with pandering to bigotry rather than creating a new social future?

Yeah, it matters.

Yeah, it matters.

They just don't want it to matter. Gay rights, even ones that are short of marriage, are just a pain the ass to them.

Well, it matters, obviously. Or there wouldn't be that much money poured into it. You don't pay for what you don't care about.

But in this case it's a religious goal and not a social goal.

I'm not saying that Catholic churches should be compelled to marry people, as that would be disrespecting the culture of being Catholic.

But there needs to be a path to legitimate marriage for law-abiding citizens and rights that straight couples get, including adoption and benefits.

There's no argument against it that doesn't stem from a religous tree.

A Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agent who blew the whistle on the botched Fast and Furious gunrunning investigation and, according to lawmakers, was threatened with losing his job has successfully resolved a retaliation claim.

ATF agent Peter Forcelli settled the claim, according to Carolyn Lerner, head of the Office of Special Counsel, through an OSC-overseen mediation process in which a neutral third party — in this case an independent OSC mediator — assisted the opposing parties in reaching a voluntary, negotiated resolution.

The resolution is confidential under OSC mediation rules.

Yeh but you'd never vote GOP anyway...some folks stick to Chevy, some to Ford.

I haven't if only because of things like this. I can't vote against roe v. wade and I can't vote against civil rights.

Fiscally I'm in favor of a lot of conservative ideals, but I can't get past the religious bullshit to approve of it.

I couldn't agree more. That is exactly how I feel about it.

Unfortunately, the republicans insist on moving farther right and that only minimizes the number of people who might actually vote for them if they didn't embrace positions like this.

Americans are stupid.

Pretty much.
It gets even better when you think about how Republicans and Democrats both cry about freedom while being completely intolerant of the other sides views. America is awesome. But mostly stupid.

I'm not a fan of the Democrats sitting on their ass and just frowning at people and looking sad and thinking that's enough of a political statement.

I'm not a fan of unending entitlements and the demonizing of corporations or the idea that just being rich means there's something menacing going on.

I don't buy the whole man-made global warming thing as the be all end of all of existence. I consider it a huge distraction from actual environmental concerns.

I have a lot of conservative values, It's just like a good bill with too many riders. Eventually there's something so ridiculous I can't vote for it.

But I'm not a Democrat either.

This is how the GOP will alienate itself into failure and the DNC's open support of it is going to nail the coffin shut.

School us then since it's so misrepresented.

"The document also calls for a constitutional amendment that would define marriage as only between a man and a woman, which would ban gay marriage even in states that currently allow it. "

Please tell us how this loving sentiment^^ towards gay people the GOP so clearly supports, has been misrepresented.

I always saw the right as being socially backwards as the left is fiscally if not more so, and it puts people like me (and you from what I am reading) in a real tight rock/hard spot situation. Civil rights or economic prosperity?

Do you think a legitimate 3rd party could emerge from this partisan hack stupidity where you loose no mater where you go? A party where you can have/keep civil rights and your money? idk...that might be too much to ask for.

Why is the GOP so much against Same sex marriages? What are they really afraid of?

Same sex marriages WILL create more jobs
Same sex marriage WON'T affect theirs, if so, they were living lies.

And, fwiw...I believe in gay marriage. Why keep a segment of the US from being miserable?

Yes, I think a third party could emerge, but the issue is polarization right now. A political party would need start-up capital in the billions. Polarity makes a lot of money, reasonable people don't donate that much. You'd need some of those billionaires who want to mine in space. I'd vote for Stewart and Colbert.

The Conservatives under Karl Rove's Bush election campaign opened a huge can of worms by dealing directly with churches and promising all sorts of ridiculous things they knew they couldn't deliver. This is history biting them in the ass. Instead of exploiting a group for their votes (Bush never gave them a damned thing he promised) the group is now exploiting the party. They messed with a virulent base and it multipled and busted out of that little percentage gain.

Both parties have their versions of inexcusable crazy, and I think Conservatives promised too much and couldn't deliver. Democrats often promise too little and still don't deliver.

Until the electorate changes in a few generations, we're stuck with these issues for a bit, but the issues will change. I'd rather deal with this than when cloning becomes viable and the government has to step in and deal with literal identity theft issues from techniques they developed. That's gonna suck.

~Yawn~

Two Americans politically unsophisticated enough to be fooled by Obama's Marxism the first time around are more than willing to risk the economic and democratic future of the country over the alleged marriage rights of 3% of the population. Let's stop and worry about mole hills while we're about to be plowed under by big government led by Barack Obama.

And yet it was important enough for Republicans to take time away from the economy to throw millions of dollars and thousands of man hours at gay marriage.

Feel free to nap.

I enjoy my life in this administration and don't despair. Call it what you want, but we're out of two wars, Osama Bin Laden is dead, medical reform underway and my tax return was three times larger than normal.

Sounds like all the people using Obama as a reason to fear for their guns. "He's going to take our guns!" *Obama makes no move to take guns* "He's just lying in wait, if he's re-elected...!"

Doesn't work any more. Track record. Deal.
