Look, Pubs, Trump isn't going to be around forever. In fact, after this November's midterms, the party leadership will probably sideline him, as having outlived his usefulness.

You need to start thinking -- and nobody is now, so far as I can see -- about which way you're going to go when he's gone. Will you persist on the insane path of Tea Party/Trumpist nationalist populism? Or go back to the Old Guard's heartless-but-rational pro-corporate agenda?

i won't pretend to understand the gop thinking process but i'd not be too surprised to see the split be between desantis and Cheney for the path to choose to go forward, though Chris Christie might be more palatable to those who don't want Cheney but would definitely NOT want desantis.

i don't see cruz as relevant

of course, with trump riling his followers, anyone openly throwing their hat into the ring at the moment means flying in the face of the maga-cult's hopes.

pompeo's said to fancy his chances

Well, this matter is a lot broader than who the GOP nominates for president in 2024. It's about the direction of the party as a whole. Can they purge the damned Tea Party current or can they not? I want the Dems to have a sane opposition.

Eventually we’ll all be able to go out in public, run our businesses, and live our lives without constant concern and guard.

But for now, we need to learn to live with the GOP.

Now, how does that party compare unfavorably with the GOP as it is post-Tea-Party?

That party was one that, if the Democrats wrote a bill that would burn down the Capitol, the GOP would counter with one that would phase in the conflagration over three years.

I can see why you long for that party of pushovers.

Better a party of compromisers than a party of obstructionists. Better for everybody.

Both parties are full of geezers who may randomly die. They always have options. Trump could be on the exact middle of the bench, between the rising contenders and the losers.

2023 is not too far off. Remember, Trump does not have to die to become irrelevant.

We still have two years left of the big shit sandwich you ordered for America. Even now though, Trump draws tens of thousands of admirers and supporters. The four or five that might gather towards Biden are forced to look the other way when a ten-word sentence takes a minute or two to complete.

That's not enough to keep him relevant. The GOP is going to have to do without him very soon.

Maybe you ought to go out and search hither and yon to find a candidate that can stand a chance against him.

Even if Trump fades away, the open racism he made it OK to express publicly for the first time in decades is not going to go away. The Republicans will still have to somehow placate the deplorables while appealing to the mainstream. I wouldn't count them out on that in the short term, but in the long term they always go too far.

All the RWs on this board seem to think that's DeSantis. Not much daylight between the two politically, but DeSantis is younger and has actual governmental experience.

It's almost as if Rightguard has never known that Trump has never won the popular vote in an election for anything or that he lost the whole ball of wax last time--to someone Rightguard continually depicts as completely incompetent. :D

It's too bad that Rightguard thinks there's no one in the Republican Party able to compete against a candidate of Trump's "caliber" :)D). The Democrats have lots of candidates who can easily take the fucker on.

After all this time you still don't understand how US presidential elections work...LOL

"BUH BUHH THE POPULAR VOTE!!!" Doesn't mean shit because we aren't a simple majority rule democracy you ignorant anti-American fuckwit.

No, bumbling Biden and bending election rules is the best you can manage. Your politics are garbage and your dumpster fire cities/states are proof....this fall and 2024 are going to be terrible for you and that makes me happy.:D

None of that portends well for the GOP after Trump.

Tell that to your hero, Donald Trump. He lost the important aspect of the presidential election in 2020 and still hasn't conceded.

You really can't have it both ways, Sweetheart. :D

Yes, it will live on where it originated, in the fantasies of the leftist who dreamed it up.

Unless of course you're being honest about what you mean by "racism", as used by Democrats it just means anyone who refuses to toe the Democrat/woke lunatic line.

The Republicans will still have to somehow placate the deplorables while appealing to the mainstream. I wouldn't count them out on that in the short term, but in the long term they always go too far.

Projection of the year so far.

I'm not trying to have it both ways, that doesn't even apply here.

You just don't understand how US presidential elections work.... cry more about the popular vote and demonstrate to us all how you FAILED out of middle school. :D

Sputter, sputter, sputter in being entangled in your own lying. :D
