The Good News in Iraq (finally!)

This is the best point made over "our" government planting stories in Iraqis press

http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/12/02/iraq.newsstories.ap/index.html

It interfers with freedom of the press. Now I will say that it's a very very very bad idea, in hind sight, they should have know better.

I think we should not use the Iraqis press for this. Like one General said, Military personnel should give "us" a better idea of what is going on. I think they are casting doubt on "our" crippled credibility.

ah, the light dawns

:rose:

and would you likewise agree that 'waterboarding' captured folks in Iraq (I won't say enemies, since most are never charged, theyre simply caught up in 'sweeps.') is perhaps also a very bad idea? (though it's not 'torture', of course)

You got me...I apologize.

No worries - I get it...I actually uttered a 'fuck you' to amicus in the health care thread, and I never do that sort of thing.

I try not to allow people excuses when they act badly. Not even myself. There is no excuse for me to act badly, but I do sometimes and get what I deserve. I have no tollerance for torture. Kill them, hold them, or release them. No funny business.

Blacksnake...a pleasure to see you posting again. How goes your Barnburner site? I am content to just read the posts here for a while and let you keep up the good work.

Thanks...amicus...

This from an Englishman? The Brits wanted the Phillipines too, didn't they? Not just Hong Kong, right?

America has always been the leader for human rights and reedoms.

You appear to've missed my point. I could never hold Britain up as perfection - we screwed over a lot of people and took a lot of land. However, my point was that the USA is far from blameless and the holy leader of decolonisation. I've discovered some very interesting articles about Hawaii while contradicting amicus.

The former government of that country presented itself as a threat to "our" interests. What I've seen is that the country is a breeding ground for terrorists. Car bombs, etc...

I disagree, the war in Iraq is a part of the war against terrorists.

I have to disagree - Iraq wasn't a breeding ground for terrorists. Saddam Hussein was a sadistic fuckwit and thoroughly deserves whatever he gets and I'd say it's better that he's not in charge of Iraq. However, he didn't have any truck with Islamic fundamentalists (mainly cause they'd pose a threat to his dominance) and largely kept the country clean of them through massive oppressing force.

Iran would be the kiddy if you were looking for a breeding ground for terrorists.
