The Glorification of George Floyd

It was a symbol they buried, not the man. The knee has been on a “collective neck.”

This. I personally think the rock star coverage of his various funerals is excessive, but it isn't about what I think about George Floyd's background.

I'm uncomfortable comparing any person to Jesus, but I do understand your point.
Have I seen the light? I' don't know. I think so. This is my light. People should obey the law. Police should honor their oath and execute their duty reasonably and as humanely as possible. People aren't doing that and the police aren't doing that. No one is saying that George Floyd (or anyone) should be free to pass counterfeit money (allegedly) and be publicly intoxicated (allegedly), are they?

People should obey the law.
Exactly.
Does this mean that the general public has an obligation to obey every single command given by a police officer?
No.
There are times when obeying a police officer is both required and prudent.
"Step back on the curb". "Get back and let an ambulance through".
Nobody (in their right mind, which of course excludes Botanazi Boy) would think twice about not complying.

The system breaks down when police officers abuse their discretion.
"Stop filming!" for one.
And the video I posted the other day about the cop who declared a public building to be "private property" and attempted to issue a "trespassing" citation....even when his superior officer told him NOT to do so.

"The law is what I say it is!" erodes the public trust.

Police misconduct has eroded the public trust in the police department as an institution. Police demand respect when they no longer deserve it.

The cops ARE the good guys, generally speaking.

You need to look at the history of policing in America. The term dirty cop didn't appear out of thin air. Why do you think Internal Affairs was created.

I do believe police forces are getting better in general, but that's coming from the perspective of a white former member of law enforcement.

A black person might have a different perspective, and Derek Chauvins actions probably didn't improve that perspective.

The equivlant of "book burning" has been done by both far ends of the political scale.

HBO Max is a politically left entity based on content and approach. However, instead of using film as a way to teach and enlighten, they over-react with book burning. And yet there are countless films and programs on HBO that contain murder, killing, rapes, sadism, torture, abuse, and other repulsive acts. HBO must approve of that content.

Why are they stopping with "Gone With the Wind"? "The Sopranos" portrays Italians as murderers and criminals. "Game of Thrones" had hundreds of murders and killings and depravity. Brutality with pretty costumes. "Westworld" includes gore, rape and massacres. Fun! "Joker" is streamed on HBO. It is lauded for the portrayal of an anti-hero criminal who kills and deforms people while celebrating mayhem and destruction. Go HBO!

They don't care if a film diminishes white people, the problem are those movies that show black people in acts of compliant servitude to white people in the antebellum South and after during the civil war era. It's all about political narratives and revisionist history.:)
Here is the address to complain to: https://help.hbonow.com/Answer/Detail/9

If you want to watch Song Of The South, you’ll need to complain to Disney.

Trumpettes talking about the "beauty of the First Amendment" just now? Hahahahahaha! :D

Trumpettes talking about the "beauty of the First Amendment" just now?

That doesn't even make sense. Besides "Trumpettes" do you have an original thought you can share in a concise and clear manner? Something with even minimal depth of perception and understanding?

If you are new to the language, I get it. But if you are a native English speaker it's kind of embarassing.

Me: That's the beauty of the First Amendment: HBO can suck and that's OK! I can mock them for their lack of standards and that's OK!
KeithD: Uh....Trumpette!
Me: That doesn't make sense.
KeithD: Oh, ya! Trumpette!

Do you think HBO just picked Gone With The Wind out of a hat? They’re addressing a concern that their customers brought to their attention.

If you want HBO to do something about The Sopranos, Game Of Thrones, Westworld and Joker, send them an email. It doesn’t do a speck of good to whine about it here.

George made some mistakes in life, no doubt. I don't understand why he wasn't arrested peacefully. They couldn't just 'cuff him and put him in the car? Why was he laying in the street for so long?
If you want to see a really frightening killing by police of a WHITE man: the Daniel Shaver killing >> https://www.washingtonpost.com/vide...715e7a-dc3e-11e7-a241-0848315642d0_video.html
Officer acquitted. No rioting ensued.

You've not seen the body cam footage...

Remember he was on drugs and engaging in criminal activity.

He was certainly no saint, and the proof is always when Al Sharpton delivers the eulogy.

Ole Georgie went for the triple crown and tried to resist arrest three times. And if the body cams back up the written report ole Keith is going to have an uphill swim.

I did some research on that neck pin that was used. If enough pressure was used to cut off the air or blood supply there is a high likelihood that Floyd's neck would have been broken. At the very least the autopsy would have revealed severe tissue damage in that area. (That may be revealed in the forthcoming detailed coroner's report but I doubt it.)

The officer's attorney's will undoubtedly file a motion for a change of venue. Move that trial to Mankato, St. Cloud, or maybe even Northfield. :)

I have said this before, but this is just getting fucking stupid
and now Congress wants to do a Kabuki and outlaw chokeholds.
The layperson clearly has no idea as to what a chokehold is but
the name, the words, they convert a message of strangulation
which was not the case here. I pointed out that I've never seen
that technique taught as any martial hold, let alone a choke
submission and I was called stupid, a liar and informed that
there are 39 chokeholds in Judo (most of them derivative
variations) by people who just want to believe the narrative.

There is such a thing as a rear-naked choke (in MMA) but
I defy anyone to describe to me how to submit or render
unconscious an opponent using a front-naked choke.
There is no such a fucking move!
