James stared blankly at the screen before him. His essay on the Civil War for his U.S. History class was staring him in the face, still nowhere near finished. He decided to take a break...another one...and grabbed his phone, moving to the window. He dialed that oh so familiar number, the number that belonged to his best friend and next door neighbor.

"Hey Joy, Whatcha up to?"

Joy was reading when she heard her cell phone go off she was home alone and she answered it, she heard James voice and an instant smile was seen and sighed a bit. "Hi James, I was just sitting here reading what have I done to get a phone call James?" she said teasingly she was always thankful when he called her.

"Oh, nothing really. Just taking a break from my Civil War Essay. College sucks sometimes. Anyways, how was your day?"

He looked out his window and waved. Seeing Joy was the highlight of his day. He only wished they could be more than just friends. But, they were friends, and had been since the day they first played together in his back yard. They'd come a long way since their days of make believe, and she'd grown into a beautiful woman. A woman he'd fallen madly in love with. Still, he'd rather have her as his best friend than not at all. Maybe someday he'd be able to tell her how he really felt.

She had a smile in her voice "Well then James why don't you come over? My parents are home and maybe we can just relax and talk a little bit?" She said softly, she walked around her home she knew that her parents were giving this place to her and were out looking for a home, she wondered if he would be up for it.

He said goodbye and hung up the phone, slipping on a pair of tennis shoes. He headed downstairs and called out to his mom.

"I'm going next door for a bit! I wont be gone too long."

He left the house and headed next door, seeing that Joy was already waiting for him at the door.

Joy smiled as she stood there she hugged him and brought him inside shutting the door "My parents wont be here much longer I can't wait to have this place all to myself all the times" She giggled.

"Yeah that's going to be so sweet! You are so lucky."

They went into her room and shut the door behind them.

"I am so glad you asked me over, that essay was killing me!"

He plopped onto the bed, lying back with his head resting against her pillows.

She shut the door and grinned looking at him "Aww well id love to do something to make you relax" She said softly laying beside him, looking into his eyes.

"Well, for starters, why don't you come over here and cuddle with me?" James was getting nervous. Did he really have the guts to go through with his plan?

Joy nodded as she cuddled into him looking up in to his eyes a smile on her face, a smile she loved and adored. "Like?"

"Oh yeah, I'm feeling more relaxed already." He held her in his arms and smiled. Truth be told he wasn't feeling more relaxed. Quite the opposite in fact. He was nervous and tense. This was the closest they had ever been. He did his best to hide his disconmfort from Joy.

She rested her hand on his chest she could not say she loved him, it was almost against her religion but she was shy and didn't speak her mind very much to him since she didn't want to sound stupid.

"So...what are you doing this weekend?" he asked with a slight tinge of nervousness in his voice.

She smiled looking up at him "Was hoping maybe you and me could spend the weekend together" S he said with a smile on her face.

"Hmm, sounds like a good idea to me." He smiled.

"So would we just be hanging out or going out and doing something togther?"

"Oh I dunno hang out at my place, go out for dinner, dancing, movies who knows" She said softly" She could tell he was nervous and smiled some looking at him. "James is there something wrong?"
