The German Problem.

Solar and wind are one of the biggest scams ever perpetrated on the citizenry. Right up there with the notion of "Green" energy. The closest you're ever going to get is nuclear, be it fusion or fission and fission would be the preferred method.

In 1900, a third of all cars on the road were electric.

It's easy to dismiss solar and wind today, but who knows?

Agreed, there should be more nuclear, at least until we slow down the warming.

Maybe by then there'll be something better.

Why did they fade out?
Crappy batteries.

Lithium ion batteries are about as Ungreen as you can get and the recycling processes are even dirtier and less efficient. The cars they're installed in are "Disco Infernos" in waiting. They spontaneously combust on contact with water which is why it's damn near impossible to put the fires out once they start. Further, there isn't enough raw materials to replace today's vehicles with Li-ion technology. If anything Hydrogen fuel cells will be the way forward with better/different battery technology.

Then there's this; The atmosphere of paleo Earth was anywhere form 10% to 25% CO2. The paleo-climatologists are still arguing over which of those numbers is the closest to correct. That is 100,000 to 250,000 ppm. Why didn't the Earth go into terminal green house gas meltdown then? Current CO2 concentrations are in the neighborhood of 400 ppm. We're a LONG way from freak out time.

Atmospheric CO2 is absolutely critical for life. No CO2, no plants, no plants, no animals. It's just that simple folks.

i have friends on the Paleo Diet, but I think it's mostly nuts.

Ya need to dig a little deeper. It's obvious you haven't done your homework. The Manufacturing process is a big secret, you'd cringe if you knew!
What to make a homemade solar panel? Bullshit and you will see this word a lot in my rebuttal to this post. You can fucking make your own, though producing cells is a bit hard...
Solar panels will never produce the grid energy output required to power large cities.
Yes they can, the current issue is with the regulations, which state base load power demands needs to be met by generation that can produce 24/7/365. Currently only Nukes or Carbon producing plants such as NG or Coal meet this regulation, not even Hydro Electric meets it...However back in the 1930's when the major Dams were being built, that was not the case. The regulations changed in the 1950's and they could be changed again.

So Bullshit
We could be totally carbon neutral with nuclear energy, to remove that option is foolish.
No you can't, not if you use the logic about what does it cost carbon wise to produce the Nuclear bundles, or (and this is the largest carbon foot print of a Nuke plant) the carbon cost to make all that Cement used to build those plant.Never mind the amount of carbon to truck around all those bundles, and the cost of storing them for the next 300,000 years.

So Bullshit
The highest efficiency rating for the best panels money can buy is 35%, FUTURE TARGET EFFICIENCY RATING 55%. But that efficiency come with a cost.
Efficiency is what? Are you talking name plate power production? Or are you referring to the amount of sunlight produced by the cells into electricity? Seriously, even Hydro doesn't run at 60% if count you count in all the water spilled over the dams when demand is low....stupid people using terms they don't understand....

So Bullshit
Waste stream management is never discussed, I wonder why?

Panels are 95% silicates but you gloss over another fact, other ingredient like lead and cadmium are both carcinogens and are always a threat to pollute water sources

Old panels cannot be easily recycled, it's an expensive process which at this time is not cost effective, so, panels litter our landfills.

Solar panels can't make themselves. To convert silicate into solar panels requires extensive mining capacity and large amounts of energy ( coal ) during the manufacturing process, conveniently hidden behind the Chinese border. Paying Peter to pay Paul. Whether you pollute here or there the process still leave behind a large carbon footprint somewhere on the planet.

Large solar farms affect habitat. You can't build thousands of square miles of solar farms and expect 0 impact on the environment, eco-systems or indigenous wildlife.
Ok now do a Nuclear plant, over it's 50 year lifespan....So Bullshit...

I wonder where Bud Spence went, even he would have to agree with what I wrote.

I never wrote that solar panels and wind turbines don’t have a place in a comprehensive approach to green energy but it’s not the be all end all answer. There are two separate applications for solar panels, one being voltaic and the other being thermodynamic heat transfer. Both produce electrical energy but neither can support grid size energy needs.

Handling nuclear waste today: Ya have to put on your big boy brain to understand this article. LMFAO!!! LIKE YOU THINK YOU HAVE A BIG BOY BRAIN! :D

Radioactive Waste – Myths and Realities

(Updated January 2022)
  • There are a number of pervasive myths regarding both radiation and radioactive waste.
  • Some lead to regulation and actions which are counterproductive to human health and safety.
Over the years, many views and concerns have been expressed in the media, by the public and other interested groups in relation to the nuclear industry and in particular its waste. Questions have been raised about whether nuclear power should continue when the issue of how to deal with its waste has apparently not yet been satisfactorily resolved.
Some of the more commonly expressed views and concerns include:
  • 1. The nuclear industry still has no solution to the 'waste problem'.
  • 2. The transport of this waste poses an unacceptable risk to people and the environment.
  • 3. Plutonium is the most dangerous material in the world.
  • 4. Nuclear waste is hazardous for tens of thousands of years. This clearly is unprecedented and poses a huge threat to our future generations.
  • 5. Even if put into a geological repository, the waste might emerge and threaten future generations.
  • 6. Nobody knows the true costs of waste management. The costs are so high that nuclear power can never be economic.
  • 7. The waste should be disposed of into space.
  • 8. Nuclear waste should be transmuted into harmless materials.
  • 9. There is a potential terrorist threat to the large volumes of radioactive waste currently being stored and the risk that this waste could leak or be dispersed as a result of terrorist action.
  • 10. Man-made radiation differs from natural radiation.

Just to lay some groundwork here, it’s no secret that the new German government has committed itself to a major military buildup as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Nobody is batting an eye over this. As a matter of fact considering Germany’s ignoring it’s NATO commitment for so long there are people saying, “It’s about time.”
Russians fear a re armed Germany. That is what Russia's invasion of Ukraine has achieved, along with two more countries joining NATO.

ineedhelp1 makes claims about nuclear power and then cites the propaganda wing of the nuclear power industry.

You’re just jealous of its tangential ESL worldview.

Again, there is nothing that stops solar from supplying the grid. Nothing except the NERC regulations.
Solar can generate mega watts, the issue is not in solar generation but in the supply mix, and demand. Simply put for you dumbass laymen, the sun doesn’t shine 24/7. So you need to re write the NERC regulations to allow for storage of energy.
It is less expensive both in dollars to build and to the environment in carbon to use renewables.
The NERC regulations are kind of like the highway speed limits. If you get a ticket since you drive at 60 mph illegally, it doesn’t mean driving at 60 mph is not achievable and safe on the current highway systems.

This is too coincidental! LOL….Bring up the topic of waste streams and Laz pops up out of nowhere. :D

Rob and a few others do that; they use different alts for different attacks.

Busy lives, they must have.
:nana:

From my house, I can see four large and two small offshore wind farms. Within a few miles, there are two large solar farms and a bio-mass generator.

The wind farms alone can supply our whole local council area and export enough to supply half of London. Off our coast it is a very rare day (or night) when the wind doesn't blow enough to power the turbines.

The solar farms vary with cloud cover and hours of sunlight but on a winter's day at their lowest output they could power 10,000 homes. On a bright sunny summer's day? 40,000. The biomass generator is small scale - about 3,000 homes but most of its output goes to a nearby industrial park and it produces power 24/7.

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned these freak-iish news:

Germany foils far-right plot to install Prince Heinrich XIII in coup

https://www.reuters.com/world/europ...arrested-raids-prosecutors-office-2022-12-07/

This is HUGE, because they were well-organised & with a high-iish chance of succeeding.
Happening in Europe, not in South America.

We all agree it was a far-Right group, Q-Annon whatever
But I root for a more sophisticated analysis - even Hitler, when he came to power rose on a bed of legitimacy: Germans could barely make ends meet, due to horrid inflation & international sanctions for their role in ww1
