Conventional urban density grows organically. Urban sprawl required government subsidies.

Arcologies require massive central planning and spending. That’s why they only exist in science fiction.

Adding more lanes doesn’t do anything to help traffic. It would be more helpful to ban on-street parking and convert the parking lanes into bus or bike lanes.

That’s okay. I’ll just keep using your thread to extol the benefits of dense, walkable cities.

I particularly like riding the train at rush hour and looking on the window at all the poor suckers stuck in traffic while I speed past. Then when I walk home from the train station I can pass more people stuck in traffic.

The automobile is the technology of yesterday. The people of the 20th century were obsessed with automobiles and wrecked their cities to accommodate them, but now in retrospect we can seen the error of their ways and begin undoing the damage they did.

Interesting take on verticality now...

Eventually, cities will be hemmed in by agricultural spaces and land will be reclaimed by necessity, living space will increasingly have to be on marginal lands (not on traditional routes, rivers being the oldest).
