The world as we know it as a dynamic, rpaidly changing house of cards built up on a base of matchsticks. Let's face it. There's a global economy so weak that it can collapse in just a few hours. We have power-hungry rogue states. We're plagued by disease. Starvation occurs at a global scale. But anything is possible in our world. After all, with a population of 6-some billion, who can say that no one differs from the norm. There are varying degrees, of course. There's a difference between a gold-medalist at the Olympic games, and a person who can bulge their eyes out of their head. But, are there others, who exceed these minute differences? Others, perhaps, whose genetic code is altogether different.
I said before that our world was unstable. But maybe that isn't as true as we've come to believe. What if there has been a hand in the Earth's events for so long, one so powerful, that no one can notice the obvious truth. That we're not free. We're being controlled by a handful of people remote and distant from us. Some happen to be cold, uncaring. Others are the epitome of humanitarian, doing everything in their power to help humanity. Only several things tie them together. One is the knowledge that the uncaring and the caring must always balance each other out. Another is that all have been endowed with a genetic code so different that they could technically be considered super-humans. But this, they're not. They're just regular people who have learned to exploit their given strengths.
But this is where you come in. You too are born with certain differences. A look at you would reveal nothing strange. But when talked to, when stared at very carefully, certain aspects are different. You have been approached by an Executive, as they're called, of the Sinmussen corporation. Without you even knowing it, you've been beaten at you're own game. For whatever personal reasons, you've joined Sinmussen.

Characters can be whatever you want. There are ten Executives at Sinmussen, and the thread needs at least three Genetics(the people displaying differences) This is set in a modern reality, and it's a tad stylized. So, no, you can't fall off the Empire State Building, get up, and go have coffee(unless of course, that's where your differences are) On the other hand, you could take a bullet in the leg and walk it off. You get the picture. A few final note for Genetics characters. They can be radically different in only one area(Ex: Super-strong, beyond genius, seductive, etc.). They can be average in all others. However, they all will have one key weakness, and if it's alright with you all, I'd like to pick that. Finally, first posts for Genetics should have them being approached by an Executive(not knowing who he is, of course), and without their knowledge, getting soundly beaten at whatever their difference is. Where they go from there is up to you. Normal humans are welcome, as well as anyone who would like to play an Executive. Only difference they have from a normal genetic is that they're weakness has faded away. I'll play a Genetic as well as the CEO(the head Executive) If interested, just post the standard character description down below.

I know this is my first thread in a while. Nevertheless, I think that this could be a succesful thread. Also, I know there are a lot of character positions open, but please realize we don't have to fill all of them. Finally, I'd just like to say that this thread is open to everyone, and I'd encourage anyone to join.

I like this. I know I'm new to lit, but I'd like to give it a shot.

Samuel Pickett

A black male in his late twenties/early thirties, Samuel was considered a child genius. He read the complete works of Shakespeare by fourth grade and studying theoretical mathematics before high school. He learned to speak every language that has ever had a textbook made for it, then learned more through international television channels. He was earmarked for great things by his family, his instructors, and his community.

Then, he dropped out of college teetering on the brink of madness.

Samuel Pickett's memory is perfect. His mind has not discarded a single piece of information from the moment of his birth. The enormity of what he knows makes performing the simplest tasks herculean efforts. He can only sleep if drugged and he's begun using smaller doses to simply make it through the day. When he can't obtain drugs, he goes to the library to read. Only by processing new information can his mind let go of the old. The effect is temporary, but it is the only peace he knows.

But sleep deprivation and the constant weight of his accumulated knowledge aren't the worst of Samuel's problems. Due to [insert primary character flaw here], Samuel cannot survive even on the fringes of society. He has fallen under the gaze of Sinmussen and he hasn't the resources or the resolve to resist their offer.

Hopefully, they have a well-stocked library.

different and interesting. Much like x-men, one cool power one generally crappy weekness. Sounds fun. Since he was permantly locked in another thread as was never able to be played to his fullest I think this character will be perfect for this thread.

Name: Jandar Brae
Age: 25
Sex: male
hair Color: brown
Hair length: short ceaser
eye Color: blue
height: 6'2"
weight: 250
Build: Muscular

History and power: Jandar has a unique and very strong power. The instant he picks up any object from as small as the cap of a pen to as large as a building he instantly knows how best to use it as a weapon. Also if he touches a living creature he will know every conflict it has been in, the entire history of that creatures troubles defeats and victories will run through his mind like a storm. His power has made him a loner as contact with others is the most disturbing of his nature. Through the years he has been able to gain a rough control over his power and can at times shut the images out of smaller objects. Wheather this is from his control or the simple fact that his power is becomming more honed to items that make better weapons and just ignoreing the ones that don't. Nothing holds his power back, he has no need to have to touch skin to skin but it must be his hands that touch the object. Since I have no idea of a weakness for him except for the fact that he is in every other way a human in every sense of the word.

Sure, man. Just post a character bio. Now, all we need to do is to find at least two more people.

Name: Seki Kazeamagumo
age:19
gender: male
height: 5'8
weight: 150
normal appearance: jeans, T shirt with a kaki colored jacket

bio: is only of average intelligence, but when he was young, he found out that he could push his body like no others. He seemingly was able to heal from wounds faster, not only that though, he found that he could move faster than most. His reflexes are uncanny along with his coordination, allowing him to do the hardest of acrobatic feats with ease. He practices martial arts, which made him stronger than most. He was going to school, and spoke a number of languages due to the fact that he grew up in Japan but moved to the US. Speaking chinese with his father and japanese with his mother. He speaks english fluently but only after the number of years he's been there. He still thinks in japanese or chinese. He found out that his uncanny reflexes when he was practicing and he heard something coming through the air, and turned around and it was centimeters from his face. He managed to catch it, not really believing that it was anything special, he realized it later when sparring with other people that their movements to him seemed slow and it was very simple to get around them. He is somewhat of a thrillseeker, trying lots of different things, snowboarding, skiing, base jumping, he found that because of his coordination, he can learn almost anything physical pretty fast. Soon after, he discovered his abilities, he noticed that something bad always happened around him. Forcing him to use his amazing agility to practice everyday, walking across the street, in the middle of class, school. Consequently, he's trained his hearing so that he can tell where things are by hearing them. It definitely has gotten him brownie points with some girls, being able to catch almost anything that falls while looking flashy. The amount of chaos that always seemed to be in his wake caused him to gain the nickname Tempest, in high school, which stuck. It annoys him thoroughly though, a simple walk to the store can be very life threatening, and if it wasn't for the fact that he trained himself to be more alert than normal people, he believes that he'd be dead.

two more people??? how are we going to do that?? hey wanna advertise in the other game threads???

Good point...I'm new, but I'm not sure how one advertises elsewhere in the online role playing boards.

In any OOC thread, just come out and say something along the lines of, "Hey, come join the Five. At least give it a look. We only need two more players. etc." As long as there's no story going on, its fair game.

I'd like to play, but have never done any online RP. Mostly, I've been watching a couple of threads and trying to figure out how it's done. If your willing to tolerate a rank newbie and let me know when I'm doing something wrong, I'd give it a try.

(I've gamed before, mostly DnD, but may need some guidance in this format.)

don't worry snasu, I'm mostly DnD too, some Alternity and others as well. I'm still not quite used to this format of not having a DM. You should be fine.

Glad to have you, snasu. The transition isn't too hard to make. Actually, if you read the excellent Loa Blood thread, you'll see that they do have a quasi-DM. I was hoping to take up a role much like that one.

thanx morgoth that would be really nice.

Name: Marie Chabot
Age: early twenties
Sex: F
Hair: Black
Eye colour: dark brown
Appearance: Metis (Inuit/French), petite build
Ability: connected with Spirit World (Sinnekarlugo). Sees ghosts, has visions where emotional residue is left. Extent of ability is unknown.
Weakness: ?

Bio: Marie has always been in tune with the spirit world. She likely gained this ability from her mamma, the medicine women of the Kinasa band, who also had some kinship to the spirit world or Sinnekarlugo. Although mamma trained Marie to have some control over her ability, mostly she acted as a buffer to keep Marie safe from the constant bombardment of desires coming from the Sinnekarlugo. She said that Marie was too young for these visions. The young should not see visions of great pain and emotion and that it was unusual that Marie should. A medicine women’s gift did not usually bloom until she was older. Marie would be taught when she was older.
That was before the car accident.
On the death of mamma, Marie left the reserve to live with her papa and stepmother. Edmonton can be a cold place, but not as cold as Lilith. Why pappa would have left the warmth of mama for Lilith, Marie will never understand. Maybe it was the money. Maybe it was papa’s innate softness. Whatever the reason, Marie had enough of Lilith calling her that freak native girl or David’s little problem. When the doctor Lilith sent Marie to for her problem prescribed pills and an extended stay on the 9th floor, Marie knew it was time to go. Mamma told to.
Since that time, Marie has been living on the streets. She has her niche. People and places that are safe. Who to avoid. Where not to go. Mamma and others look out for her. She's even developed a name for herself. People know that she has answers and they're willing to pay for them.

I'm game, if you have me.

Sylvie Ste Marie (Saint Mary)
Age: 23
Height: 5'6"
Eyes: Silvery blue
Hair: deep blood red
Build: Curvey but strong
Power: Healing, both physical and mental
Weakness: Prolonged healing over a short period of time sends the wounds(mental or physical) into Sylvie

Sylvie was born in the heart of New Orleans, Louisiana to a family that could trace roots back to the French on one side and to freed slaves that practiced the Occult on the other. Her father was a powerful Voudin Priest before his death when Sylvie was only five. Her mother raised her and still lives in the same home outside NOLA.
Sylvie, from a very young age, was able to touch others, know thier pain and heal them. Be it physical pain, like a broken ankle or mental pain like abroken heart, if given enough time and on occasion sessions, Sylvie can heal a person of thier ills. Unless they're a genetic veriant like her- then its a toss up whether it works or not.
Just finished collage with a bachlors degree in psychology and her RN's license and looking for a job.
Which is where the head hunter of the company comes into play.

What do you think?

Edited to add in my weakness for I tend to referance my intiial bio a lot in the first few posts of any thread.

Of course, Vixandra. Always glad to see you. Great characters all, but snasu, characters must be at least 18 years old(site rules, not mine) Anyway, my two characters are below(the CEO and my normal character) I'll post the real thread after everyone's OK with their weakness.

1:
Name: Allen Redlin
Age: 24
Height: 5'8"
Hair: Silvery, shoulder-length
Eyes: Dark Green
Build: Wiry, fit
Power: Telepathy
Weakness: Has a very slow healing rate(a broken arm he once had took a year to heal. A gunshot wound would take months)
History: Allen was born in a small town called Wilhening, WY to a farmer and his wife. Naturally gifted, he was talking and walking at 6 months. At the age of 10, the heater in their small house exploded, sending fire everywhere. To protect himself and his parents, Allen's gift showed itself. Using his telepathy, he was able to send powerful forces that cooled the flames until they finally died down. Him and his parents did their best to conceal the gift, trying to have him lead a normal life. At home, though Allen would experiment with it, growing more and more skilled at it. He held a perfect 4.0 throughout school, and never sunk below an A in college. Now that he's out of college, he's yet to find his calling. His chosen major, physics, was only taken to help him utilize his gift.
2:
Name: Atriel Nezram (aka the CEO)
Age: Unknown (appears late 20's)
Height: 6'8"
Hair: Black, close-cropped
Eyes: Golden
Build: Huge, very muscular
Power: ?
Weakness: ?
History: Few know anything of the history of Atriel. None know the whole thing. What is known by some, guessed by others, is that Atriel was born in England, in an unknown town. The giant of a man has been CEO of Sinmussen before any of the other Executives even knew about the company, lending evidence to the theory that his appearance is not indicative of his age. Even Executives fear him, for he is a man of shifting mood. He has been known to order Executives to save millions, and then order genocide. None know his motives, his plans, or his full range of powers. Atriel is the enigma at the heart of every good mystery.

Here are weaknesses(by character):

Samuel Pickett: He has come to rely on the drugs. Without them, he turns into a gibbering maniac. Also, when he wants to do something, he has to read about it. For example, before driving a car, he has to flip through a book about driving. His speed at reading allows him to accomplish this easily. The real trouble is carrying around the books he needs when he needs them
Jandar Brae: Becomes ill at the sight of very large amounts of blood(such as the ones inflicted by stabbing, slashing weapons, or bullet holes from .50 calibre weaponry)
Seki Kazeamagumo: Very, very jinxed. Bad luck follows him around. For example, while walking down a street, a car may swerve out of control and go right at him, while a mugger comes after him, and a lady throws a pot of boiling water out of her window- all at the same time
Marie Chabot: Delayed reaction times-visions take some time to fully transpire, she notices threats, obstacles slower than others
Sylvie Ste Marie (Saint Mary): Prolonged healing over a short period of time sends the wounds(mental or physical) into Sylvie

Hope those are OK. If anyone disagrees with theirs, please, alert me. I will do my best to come to an agreement with you.

Quite the good weekness for Jandar. Since I play him as a pacifist it makes sense. I am happy with it. When do we start???

Makes sense. Another reason to do big heals in small sessions.
Life aldtering stuff first (ie stop blood loss) then worry about the massive bruising later.

Ouch, so basically my dexterity/agility and coordination seems to be the only reason I'm alive. This will definitely be interesting.
