The Firm - closed

Laura didn’t feel uncomfortable in Ricks arms. In fact she found his smell and confidence strangely comforting. His fingers were warm through her light dress fabric.

“Oh there’s so much swinging in this company you’d never believe” Laura said “and we’d bi to be happy to show you both the ropes” Mitch was a bit confused by her answer, he wondered if she had misunderstood his comment.

Malik suddenly appeared behind both couples “dinner is served” he said with a deep voice that sounded like smooth jazz.

Rick offered his arm to Laura and with a look to Mitch she took it and was led inside.

Cindy sauntered up and did the same to Mitch.

As they approached the table it was clear that Rick was leading Laura to a seat next to him. She took the chair that was pulled out and sat as everyone got their positions.

Rick poured some champagne into all the glasses. “A quick toast. “ she said as he took his glass whilst standing.
“When we company looks to take senior members of staff we look beyond the person we are hiring. We look at their background, their relationships, their spouses. It’s vital to the company that those that join commit everything to the company, and in return the company offers everything back. Mitch and Laura. We had no doubts when we decided to bring Mitch on that you both wouldn’t be the perfect match for us as a business. Embrace everything this company has to offer and I promise you both that your life will be fulfilled more than you could have ever imagined”

Glasses clinked. Salutations were made. And as Rick sat down he leaned in to Laura’s ear as Mitch and Cindy talked.
“Everything is available to you both tonight. Everything. I hope you open your mind, and more, to that” and he placed his warm hand on her thigh. She froze, not knowing what to do. Mitch caught her eye and he sent a weak smile. Cindy was liking her way as well, her right hand somewhere under the table.

Even when Cindy led Mitch to the table and Rick led Laura, Mitch didn't really think much of any of it. It was only when they sat and he felt Cindy's hand come to rest on his thigh then slowly work itself higher that he found himself alarmed and unsure how to react.

This was his bosses wife and every option he had at his disposal seemed to lead to a bad outcome. Looking over at Laura and offered a weak smile as he pretended nothing was happening as best he could. "This looks amazing. after traveling today I'm starving." Mitch said, hoping that focusing on dinner would somehow distract Cindy.

"Yes, everything does look amazing doesn't it?" Rick replied with a grin as he reached over and let his hand come to rest on Laura's thigh. He held it there still for a moment before his fingers started gathering the fabric of her dress, raising it slowly until his fingers came to rest on her bare thigh. "I'm sure you're going to enjoy it."

Not wanting to take things too far yet, Rick removed his hand from Laura's thigh then laid his napkin in his lap. He felt like his actions had left little doubt about his intent so he was content to carry on and see how she reacted.

Laura ate dinner in a daze. She joined in on the conversation but wasn’t leading much, that was down to Rick and Cindy. She kept looking at Rick catching his eye and she as sure that he had picked up on her tension. As the main course was cleared Laura excused herself to the bathroom.

This allows Rick and Cindy to get Mitch to themselves for a few minutes to set out their hopes and expectations.

“So Mitch, I think you’re a smart man.” Rick started. “I’m assuming you’ve picked up on the unique….company philosophy from this evenings welcome dinner” Cindy’s hand rested on his thigh once again. Rick didn’t wait for any response. “We’ve found that people that embrace this philosophy do very well here. Those that don’t, well, they don’t tend to last.” Cindy’s hand was now directly on his crotch.
The silence was deafening.

“Do you need me to talk to Laura, to spell it out?” Cindy said as she gently stroked her hand “she comes across innocent but I have a feeling she’s a firecracker “

Mitch didn’t know what to say. It was very clear that there was a sexual openness expected. He had no idea how Laura would react to this. Let alone himself.

But this was his dream job. Dream career.

He looked at Rick and Cindy.

“I understand. Let me talk to her” he said.

“Great. We’ll take dessert in the living room. Join us when you’ve had a chat” Rick said and got up from the table, Cindy’s hand gave a squeeze as she also stood and left him at the table.

He heard Laura’s footsteps returning to the table.

Mitch stood stunned as the two of them left the dining room to adjourn in the living room. He had no idea how Laura might react to something like this. He himself had no idea how to react. It was, after all, the job of his dreams but was he willing to risk his marriage over it? Even if he was, he had serious doubts about whether Laura would consider it an acceptable trade off. When she returned to the dining room Mitch swallowed the lump that had formed in his throat then met her at the edge of the dining room table.

"Ummm, there's something we need to talk about." he said in a quiet voice, still having no real idea how he was going to tell her what he needed to. "I don't know if you noticed or not but I think both Cindy and Rick have expectations of more than tonight being just about dinner. He's kind of made it clear that our decision is going to have a direct impact on my future with the firm. I.....I don't know what to do. I never thought we'd ever find ourselves in a position like this."

Though Mitch was pretty sure he wasn't willing to let something like this get in the way of everything he'd accomplished, he couldn't necessarily make that decision for Laura.
